I hope we can get these avatar awards here in the states. Already my avatar is swirling around his ship and controller.
I always look at these as the best kind of avatar accessories. Mainly because they are free :D

Yes, we can get them in the States/everywhere. Avatar Awards are like achievements, with a more... Well, rewarding reward. They can't just pull achievements out of the game in one region, unless they actually made it two separate games and removed them from the non-"JP" version of the game... Which would just be completely bonkers. Konami is not going to go out of their way and pay even more money (they would need to certificate the game two times), just to piss you off, :).

It wouldn't be unprecedented (maybe for a Konami game it would be though). I know Gears of War 2 had different achievements lists in JP and everywhere else (the difference being either the achievement values were reworked and another one was added for completing horde on each map, or they removed one and added the one I mentioned).

Those are cool and all, but what can you do with these Avatar pets, besides loading up the screen your Avatar is on an play with them for a minute or two?

I haven't been on X-Box Live in awhile, but really, given the fact XBpx gave us these essentially useless Avatars, I was expecting a Lobby experience similar to Wii or maybe a PSN Home experience. Is that in, or are these things just an excuse to throw money for something the player can see, while the wallpapers are all but useless since a few updates ago?

This isn't much of deal as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is only two games in Japan (MGS2 and 3) MGS Peace Walker HD is being released as a separate game for the same price as the collection. Japanese gamers are often ripped in the name of a collection. For example there is currently a Dragon Quest set for the Nintendo Wii in Japan 1,2 and 3 all for 4000Yen which is VERY expensive for such old games.

Not entirely sold on the MGS collection. Only game I'd get out of it is peacewalker considering I still have the PS2 versions of 2 and 3 sitting on my shelf.
