Am I the only one who thinks voice activation is lame? Like I wanna be on the subway hearing everyone talk to their phones. No thank you.

@whylekat

On the subway where there is no cell connectivity, therefore drastically reducing the need to talk to your phone?

No its the office and cafes you need to worry about.

Then I do not understand the use of 'sub' for those railways.

Do you take the NYC subway ever? I promise you, people have service and talk and use their phones or iPads all the time. The city even put new tech into 14th, Grand Central, and Penn Station subways so people have reception.

Exactly! But even people talking ON their phones in the subways is usually obnoxiously loud and generally rude.

Annoying in public = non-practical/lame (in private)? Safely reading/sending texts while driving now is pretty friggin' cool.

I do live in NYC, but take the subway as little as possible. I was mostly joking about the reception thing so I could shed let on the real problem.

Cafes.

That's good point about txting / driving but if you're gonna talk TO your phone to send a message to someone, why can't you talk to THE ACTUAL PERSON?

Society sucks these days.

Let's not forget about blind people. While Siri isn't perfect/perfectly marketed, the tech is impressive. Future versions of the software *could* change how people use hardware.

Actually the last woman in the video is blind. She is reading a braille book.

Another good point. So let's hope it becomes less of a gimmick and doesn't devolve society more then most technology already has.

"Didn't they do that for post 911 because people were trapped and couldn't use their phones for days?"

Considering they just installed them a few weeks ago (10 years after 911) ... I'd say: not exactly.

I love the continuing irony of people name-checking government control conspiracies, then pushing ideologies for more government control. Occupy Wall Street!

One of the smartest moves they could make is release special voice downloads for Siri, like the Garmin folks do with their GPS line.

I'm awaiting apps that replicate something this phenomenal. Every gamer who's played Portal and witnessed Siri naturally thought "GLaDOS".

I have Tasker programmed on my Android phone to play semi-random turret sound bites for almost every little thing ("Shutting down...", "Hello...Friend", "Put me down!"). My friends who played Portal think it's awesome.

you guys a hypocritical useless sloths of society... your bias and lack of imagination is disturbing to me.. because of you society will move onto the future at a slower pace. What apple is doing here will be copied and attempted by many other companies and don't do this to begin with because of you're Neanderthal mentality. Are you afraid of magic losers? Come on.. seriously, you would probably be all over this if it was a droid thing and you'd say its better then apple.. or claim they came up with it first. Your all sad sad losers.

PS: Im from New york and I always hear people on their phones.. or talking to each other.. what are you going to do about that? Siri is a help tool.. not someone to have a convo with. I know thats probably the first thing that pops in your head.. wishing a girl would talk to you. losers.

Portal coolness aside this is just more examples of taking what at first seem to be cool ideas, talking to your phone, and them actually turning out to be pretty obnoxious in real life. I can't wait until I start seeing people talk to their iphones. Yay.
