The scene with Jesse was completely ruined for me by the fact he was playing Rage with a lightgun, I couldn't stop thinking that it's not a lightgun game.

@Altrix You can rage against the machine all you want, but there was a specific plot reason for the light gun. The character was coming to grips with shooting a man in the face, the first time he had intentionally, willfully killed a man. The symbolism would not have been as meaningful if he had been sitting slack-jawed on his futon with a controller in his hand. Sure, they could have made up their own game, but they made a budget decision - get a few bucks in product placement (the only time I can recall Breaking Bad ever doing that), save a few bucks having to hire out to produce the graphics. For such an excellent show, I'm willing to overlook a little inaccuracy.

@whylekat
yeah who'd have thought one of the best-written shows on television could have had an actual reason for something that happens in it
crazy shit, huh?

You're looking way too deep into it. Altrix is absolutely correct and we have countless examples of tv shows "getting it wrong" when it comes to games. This isn't anything new. Go search online, you'll find them. He wasn't arguing the reason for the gun only the inaccuracy of using Rage to demonstrate it.

@pw38 But the Breaking Bad writers have already shown that they know video games (the zombie argument scene)

@rob47 as much as it felt wrong, it made a lot of sense to make it a lightgun game from the breaking bad story perspective. the simple motion of even holding a gun like that for jesse must be chilling

@rob47 It is lame, now that I've seen it.
But what TV shows don't show characters mashing game controls while hearing completely random sounds?

Other than the Light Gun aspect, everything else was right. The sounds were the ones from Rage, and Jesse at least pulled the trigger in sync with guys actually getting shot. Using the light gun seems silly, but was for a reason so Jesse would hallucinate shooting Gale again.
Every other time games are referenced or shown in the show it's with reverance. When you see Jesse sit down to play Mario Kart Double Dash, he has the right controller and the ingame sounds are what you hear, not fake bleep bloops.

Then why not use a game that actually has a light gun? Resistance 3 comes to mind. Killzone too.

How come there is no Move support for Rage anyhow (or Kinect for that matter)?
Anyhow, cool egg.
