I tried that and... was Mortal Kombat 2 always that hard? Because it certainly wasn't on the Genesis.

@Gibbeynator From what I understand the versions for sale on PSN are the arcade versions which were much harder than the console versions. The consoles didn't need to take your quarters, the arcade ones did.

I said the same exact thing when i was playing these (owned them on my genesis back in the day).

I actually considered these to not be fun, especially with the broken net code. I wish I didn't buy it.

Emulators? You don't have to wait.

Meanwhile, it STILL hasn't been released on pc.

I am really tired of being treated like a second class citizen. It isn't like they need to delay it to put DRM in it.

It's being delayed for one reason only. So the console versions can sell better. The "delayed to next month" is now over a month. Where is the game?

@Drakkenfyre MKAK isn't a viable release on PC, especially when you emulators available that can run the games online.

Trust me, you don't want this version of the game on the PC. It's broken and crappy. You probably are better off running MAME. That's more accurate emulations than what this release provides.

How do these run? I worry about bad emulation / shoddy ports when stuff like this comes out, but I really want to pick these up.

@Equal Opportunity Dork I thought it was pretty bad. I wish I would have waited for reviews to come out instead of downloading immediately. These ports are far from what I expected, and instead it made me dig out my SNES to play the old versions. It wasn't the difficulty, although the games are hard as hell. The controls are pretty loose, and if you are a big MK / fighting game fan, there are of small annoyances that will make you want to stop playing. I would love a patch, but I know it's never coming.

@Yeah TB ...did you ever play the Arcade games? You want them to "patch" a 19-year old arcade game so it can have "better controls"?

@Dark Archon PSN Archonik XBL Dar Yes. I have played the arcade games, plenty of times. Have you played the Kollection? Quote a friend of mine who works at Neatherrealm, "We did not actually work on the game and are mad that it has our name on it."

And if the game wasnt ready to release on PC, but released anyways, you'd still be bitching about feeling treated like a "Second class citizen"

These MK games age so poorly. SFIII3RD on the other hand is infinitely better and still plays as good as it did in 99. At least resident evil 4 got a deservedly high spot. I'm playing it for the 1st time and really loving it.

@(Unverified) It's not just that the game aged poorly as much as these ports are terrible. I played the old SNES versions of MK1, 2, and UMK3 a few days after downloading this, and they were far superior.

What this list really says to me is that after being released 2 years ago Final Fantasy VII is still in the top 10,

Wow. That games got some legs on it.

Why should we be worried about 2012? Mortal Kombat has been and will always be badass. We need more badass beat-em-ups than effeminate Japanese crap anyway.

Oh please. There's about 20,000 versions of streetfighter using only a mix of "Turbo", "Remix", "Fighter", "Street", "Edition", and "Bellhop" arranged all wonky to make it a new game.

This is what actually surprises me as well. I figured Third Strike would be way higher. Here I thought I knew the PSN community, what with being active on the blog and everything.

It was outpaced by Angry Birds! I didn't even know people BOUGHT the PSN angry birds.

Picked it up yesterday. Not too bad. For $10, it's a lot of MK.

What I liked:
Despite what others have said, these all play (pretty much) identical to their arcade counterparts. I suspect the "loose controls" moaners are on XBox's crappy D-Pad. Online seems fine (at least on PSN).

What I didn't like:
The menu controls are screwy. Select to pause the game? Huh? Block is mapped to the trigger, not the shoulder button, which seems weird to me. Graphics don't look good. Yes, they're standard resolution, and very obviously so. I would absolutely LOVE to have seen them polish them up for HD. It would have been tricky, but it would have been gorgeous- Rerender the 2D backgrounds and repaint the video-captured actors. Also, this collection should have had the regular MK3. UMK3 sucked ass in comparison. But still- $10.

Overall, very worth it if you are an MK fan.

#1 The select button is used to pause because some of the secrets (as well as random select) involved hitting the start button, so you can still use those.

#2 you can remap the triggers to the shoulder buttons.

I agree. The menu is a bit wonked. Playing arcade was a nightmare when I'd want to check my move list and then realize there was a 2 second delay before I could even do anything in game again.

I found the netcode to be more or less as good as MK9's, maybe I just need to find someone with a better connection.

Even though it's a lot of MK for $10 USD, I do regret buying it.
