@TurbineTech There is just too many other potentially great games coming out in a short time period to drop $60 on what EA/Dice has given me an opportunity to decide might not be worth it. I just don't understand releasing something that admittedly uses/used old code when the final product release date is just around the corner. Seems like a major marketing mistake on EA's part...

My issue was with the bugs. Most of the console bugs were present in the PC version as well. Since the PC version didn't require certification, didn't use the same profile as the console version, and actually used the Battlelog (unlike the console version) there's no reason it wasn't a more current build.

As to the article.. "ncluding one moment where I killed one enemy with my M4, shot another that came around the corner from the hip, and had to switch to my sidearm to handle yet another opponent a moment later" this happened to me quite a bit on Metro while in the side rooms. I'd mow down guys coming through doors with the shotgun then have to switch to my pistol as more came through, it was crazy fun and not an experience isolated to BFBC2.

I feel most of the comments are whiny kids. Any long time player of DICE games of the Battlefield variety knows that they listen tot he players and work fast and hard to fix balancing and patch the bugs. The same cannot be said for many of franchises.

I thought problems in the beta while annoying were not major and could easily be fixed. Whether it comes at launch or not I will still by the game. I bought MW2 at launch and that was a major fail with more launch glitches and bugs than any shooter I have played to date.

All in all with time the will end up where it needs to be. A well balanced game with little to no glitches.

Dismissing the very legitimate complaints of this beta as those of "whiny kids" is pretty erroneous. When the beta is so close to the actual release, the average gamer will assume that little is going to change and this is how the game will be, for the most part.

Not your most informed gamer, perhaps, but whiny kids? Please. People were just being honest with their reactions to what the beta was/is: mediocre, filled with all sorts of bugs, and not very fun.

I guess if you're a Battlefield fangirl you'll step up and call all criticism that of "whiny kids" though, eh?

Bring on the down votes.

@Gunballs I was thinking the same. I love playing bad company 2, but the beta put me off. I convinced my friend to play they beta, he wouldn't finish the game. He thought it was a joke. It seems like many first time Battlefield players will have the same reaction.

I agree with this article! Dice and EA should have had this Beta out months ago or just said because of time restraints we have decided to bypass the open beta.

It is comforting to hear you say they have implemented changes that makes the game feel more in line with previous entries, but that only further makes this beta misleading as you said.

See, they couldn't bypass the open beta because they had promised it over a year ago to all those people who bought Medal of Honor. They likely would have had a lawsuit on their hands for removing features.

Although it looks like that decision to include the beta with MoH is backfiring hardcore. Lesson being don't include beta access unless you have a firm beta plan.

Read some reviews, Talk to friends or rent it.
From what Mr. Gies has to say It's looking like DiCE have improved BF3 a lot from the Beta.

Glad I still have it pre-orderd with the FREE expansion map pack.

I don't understand why you got down voted.

I feel the same way about it too. Until I read this article, I just assumed that the game was super broken and not ready for release, especially not in a month. It actually really turned me off to buying the game, and I was a die hard BF2 player back in school.

I expect BF3's sales to hurt really hard because of this, since the casuals that it is trying to steal from COD are probably now just totally writing off the game and focusing on MW3

"Releasing a beta for Battlefield 3 might be the biggest mistake EA has made with its biggest game this year."

I actually agree with this. It was broken in so many ways, to the point where I'm not buying the game even though I was really excited for it. I know it's just a beta, but there's only a few weeks left till launch and I think many of these problems will remain in the game.

Based on this article, and everything else I've heard/seen from the beta, the code they're letting people test was old when they released it.

I'm confident that most of the issues will be resolved in the retail release, but I can't come close to figuring out what Dice/EA thought they'd gain by letting people play old code.

Thats just crazy talk. Any true, hardcore BFBC2 fan will tell you BF3 is garbage compared to it. A perfect example would be Recon. Everyone knows that the snipers have completely infested BC2 now. It has reached epidemic levels. And now they introduce prone? No Thanks! I recently played a rush map where 9/12 players on my team were recon. And all of them jockeying for the same 15 feet of sniper real-estate. You should have seen the hatemail i got when i spent the rest of the game completely smoking out the ridge where they were all hiding!

Also, BC2 players know the netcode was garbage. Piss poor hit detection. Knife hits not registering at all. Brand new tanks shattering from a grenade. Well, guess what people?! Not only did they NOT bother to fix the code, the made it worse by moving that responsibility client-side, instead of server-side.

So, i will be passing on BF3, so long as people are still playing BC2.

I think you are a bit confused about prone. BF3 did not introduce prone. BF 1942 had prone, BF2 had prone, so naturally, BF3 will have prone. Bad Company is a spinoff series.

@(Unverified) I figured out you havnt even played the BF3 beta when you said the didnt fix the hit detection. 99% of the bullets I fired that looked like they hit, did hit, and most of them killed the enemy. Learn to aim, or choose a server with less ping on your end.

Disagree. Laying prone, glitches aside, has been the most fluid feeling/ control that's been implemented into a shooter yet.

@Negatron If you're actually focusing on the objectives and not just kills, going prone and then hopping over a fence and hiding behind walls and crawling up to the mcoms is definitely a nice change to only being able to crouch or straight run up to them

Go lay prone and move around in another Shooter as old as the PC's Counter Strike mod, Day of Defeat or MW2. Then start up BF3 and do the same, you will see my point then.

It would have made more financial sense for DICE/EA to not have released this beta as well. The hype has been killed because of it. People now realize this game isn't the be all, end all FPS; it's just another really good Battlefield game.

People defending the poor state of the Beta were completely missing the point.

The point is, a Beta (ANY Beta) this close to release serves a dual purpose: to market the game just as much to test it. I know it, you know it, EA knows it. The release date is close, expectations are high, and people are pining to get their hands on the game. This is why people expected a playable game, or at least a game not completely ridden with bugs. Had the game come in this state 6 months ago we wouldn't be having this conversation, because it's implicitly understood by everyone that the closer a game gets to release, the closer it really should be to completion, and if people happen to drop in and play the game VERY close to release, the game itself should reflect that.

DICE can rationalize the bad state of the beta all the want. The damage is done. There is exactly ONE chance at making a good impression, and for many people their very first impression involved clipping through the ground and getting stuck. A first impression makes a tremendous impact on the human brain, and it really doesn't care if some company makes excuses. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

@PointlessPuppies I mostly agree with you, and when I first played the beta, I completely agreed with you...but after spending some time with it, I have a come away with a slightly different outlook on the beta. I came in cold, as a complete Battlefield noob, looking for a new experience from my shooter.

My first thought (after falling through the map, seeing half the players using Recon, randomly not being able to sight in or sprint or sometimes even arm the m-com, etc.) was that the beta was a disaster and that I would never, ever play this game...

Then I started to unlock things...so many things to unlock and customize...and suddenly I was playing Forza with guns! The squad spawn is another Battlefield feature that I thought was great and it added a lot of strategy to firefights. The environment destructibility was great, though it would be nice if the walls you can actually blast down weren't so few and far between (I wanna use that C4 I unlocked, dammit!).

I do hope that they've adjusted the sniper rifles a bit, though, as they felt a bit OP in the beta. Hopefully that would encourage the throngs of snipers to start playing with other classes and actually help their teams, instead of camping at the back of the map and waiting for kills.

Anyway, I know that my case is a specialized one, but I just wanted to point out that the beta may have not been a complete wash.

Yeah, I feel kind of dirty because I really enjoyed the Beta despite recognizing it had some major flaws. I loved BF2 back in the day, but never got into CoD multiplayer...

I agree the unlocks and squad spawn are great additions, I also like the way they combined the classes (i.e. assault is also medic). I still felt rewarded for playing intelligently and working with my squadmates, but I hope the final release is much improved regardless.

Old Beta, console approvals, plays much better, people not happy with beta, people WILL be happy with game.. yeah, the big checks went out...

That's not to say the game will suck, but I guess y'all will find out..
