So, you know that 3DS circle pad attachment Capcom's greatest scientists toiled over? Well, get this: Famitsu reveals (via Andriasang) that it'll be used for aiming in Resident Evil: Revelations. For the recently unfrozen cavemen out there, the left pad will be used for movement, while the expansion on the right will be used for aiming and rotating your character. Also, we destroyed the dinosaur scourge and display their bones in museums as a warning to other massive lizards. You're welcome.
Resident Evil: Revelations launches on February 7 in North America.

Great, so now I have to buy this stupid thing. Wish they could patch it into Mercenaries.

It was hard enough going back to RE4 and Mercenaries 3D after having that 2nd stick on RE5, if I have the choice, I'll take it.

I'm a gaming whore, so you can blame me for the redesigns. I bought a 3DS on launch and if they redesign it I'll buy that one at launch, too. I buy everything at launch, I just can't help it.

Haha, no one's faulting you, comrade. :] By a horrible fault of eccentric spending, I'm the same way.
Especially with the PSP. I wish I could tell you I was lying when I say that I bought seven of them... 3 for myself, 2 for my brother, 1 for mom, 3 for friends. I think I "single-handedly" kept the PSP going in 2005-6. But, only the last one was at retail cost... the rest were on sale. x_X
1) Imported a JPN PSP-1000 for me; sold via eBay when PSP-2000 released
2) Brother's b-day gift PSP-1000; traded-up when new PSP-3000 came out
3) See #1; bought on CraigsList via funds of import PSP eBay sale
4) Mother's Day gift PSP-1000
5) PSP-2000 CraigsList bought; then bricked horribly in media hacking, resold on eBay(yes, the buyer was aware prior to sale!)
6) See #2
7) "MGS:PW Big Boss" edition PSP; missing/stolen (I think TSA *took* it)
Yep. Craziness.

Idunno, after experiencing touchscreen aiming in MP Hunters and other games, I don't think I can go back to wobbly waving my reticule in the general direction of an enemy using an analogue stick. These days I buy the PC version of any non-handheld game that requires precision aiming, for that very reason.
At least... I would assume Revelations would have touchscreen aiming as an option...? Well, not that it matters much, since this isn't an action shooter game, thankfully.

I'm pretty sure that RE5 Gold had Move support patched into it. Unless you meant the PSN version of 4.

Well, now I guess I'll be waiting to buy this until after the almost guaranteed 3DS redesign with this built in. I'm not gonna use a damn attachment to have a second circle pad. I wanna say this'll show me for being an early adopter but I'll probably buy the first Vita model too. I'm a consumer whore. :(

Guys, you don't have to use the slide pad. You can just aim like in any other DS shooter ever. Not a big deal.

But... It *is* a big deal when it's a feature that should be standard these day(in reference to dual analog control). :\ Hence why people jumped all over Sony's shaite for not putting one on the PSP, yet they featuring games that would normally use two sticks... i.e., PEACE WALKER and RESISTANCE. :(

I think God of War:Chains (and I assume the other PSP one) was the only game to really nail the dualshock-to-single-nub translation with its "roll" mechanic. Basically everything else that wasn't specifically designed for the PSP's control scheme could have benefitted from a second stick.

EDIT: " yet they feature* games that would". Stupid auto-correction.
Anyway, I was surprised enough that Nintendo offered the "25 games free" thing for early adopters. Giving them a free slide pad? That's midnight-madness style crazy. If they did that, maybe we can start demanding a better online interface and integrated Nintendo Points Card accounts(instead of having an account for the Wii, WiiU and DS consoles).
@baby_sea_tuna
Agreed. Once I got over the initial "you better learn the control scheme quick due to the sharp GOD OF WAR learning curve" anxiety, I really ended up enjoying CHAINS OF OLYMPUS... possibly as my favorite-to-play game in the series.
PW was used an example only because it was so damn irksome to play toward the end without a 2nd analog. Targeting a fast moving Metal Gear was painfully annoying with face-buttons. I'm so eager for the HD collection due to the game finally getting the functionality it should've had from the start. Perhaps with online play too, Kojima? *_*

The DS has always had dual analog substitute by using the touch screen for camera controls or aiming or what have you. I agree that it'd be pretty nice to have the second stick when we get the next 3DS, but my comment is mostly in reference to all the people who think that you have to buy the slide pad to play Resident Evil.

I don't know, I think the 3DS has a pretty robust future ahead of it, especially as it's not my only gaming console. There are a stream of great-looking 1st party games coming down the pipe and 3rd parties will eventually figure it out, just like they did with the DS. That being said, I'm also getting a Vita for sure.

I'm sorry I just don't see where Vita fits in anywhere. I can only see Playstation purists and elite tech junkies purchasing that device, and it becoming even more niche than PSP.
I don't doubt it will pack cool features and be a ridiculously robust device, however I don't see the mass appeal for it like an iPad or an Android phone. It ain't 2005 anymore.

For one, I agree with you. Vita is a nice piece of tech and all, but I think that after the initial launch push it is going to be crushed by the 3DS (which should gain a sizeable lead over Xmas, at least here in the US.)

It's a $20 addon that uses the infrared sensor on the 3DS (hence why you need a battery) that you can probably snap on and off. It's optional to use, but if you were fine with how the demo played on Mercenaries, then it's all about preference. There will be a redesign one of these days, but I don't see one in 2012. A second stick alone won't justify it.
Posted: Oct 13th 2011 11:22AM ColorblindMonk said
@foxhound
I don't think a second analog stick is enough to justify a redesign to simply throw it in, and that's why we have the addon. Games should be designed around the controls unique to the system, not the other way around. The second circle pad is there for traditional play, but so far developers have not been taking full advantage of the 3DS's features, the touchscreen and gyro controls.
So far the 3DS isn't being fully utilized yet. I see numerous updates down the road that will add features like video capture. We can't be hasty to throw it away for a new design before we get the most potential we can from it, which is why I doubt we'll be hearing about one next year.

Not fully utilized? I'm confused because the same could still be said of the Wii not being used to even remotely close to its functional potential... and it's being undermined by the WiiU. I guess I'm just generalizing Nintendo out of personal views of their business habits historically. :\

@Arctic Frog Actually a lot of people waited because Nintendo said that they'd revise the design quite early in it's cycle. The DSphat was always a test run to see if people took to the idea. Which they did, so they proceeded to make the revision. Nintendo have said from the start (before the 3DS was released) that a revision wasn't likely as they'd basically packed the 3DS with everything they could.
So with the 3DS it's either not going to happen or it'll be waaaaay later in it's lifecycle. Several years, possibly.
