It's hard to imagine a Halo game without achievements, but in the long passed, black-and-white prohibition-era yesteryear of 2001, that's just how things were. No 'chievos to grind, no Gamerscore to bolster, and only the earliest, fledgling proto-trolls were hurling racial slurs over Xbox Live.
A lot has changed since then, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary knows that kids these days couldn't handle a Halo experience devoid of achievements, so jump past the break for a complete list of points you never had the opportunity to earn in the first place.

Cannot wait for Halo:CEA.
Just to see it in original and new updated is going to be great, and having CO-OP over live or System link :)

yeah, i'd say they're possible, but a major pain in the ass. also, from reading around, they MAY have shortened the length of The Library level, but i'm not 100% on that.

I played so goddamn much of the original CE, that I'm pretty sure I've achieved both of these feats.
The only one I think I've actually never done on my own is this one:
Leave It Where It Lay (25)
Complete the level "Two Betrayals" on Legendary difficulty without picking up a new weapon.
Also, this one:
Close Quarters Combat (25)
Complete the level "Truth and Reconciliation" with at least four rounds left in your Sniper Rifle.
That one's gonna be a bitch.

@Korbie The guys at 343 have talked about a new way to complete the level in a shorter time.
I'm guessing a series of switches allows a secret door to open that bypasses a large chunk of the level, or something like that.

I like how you can turn off their notifications. You can't say the same for Trophies though. They used to be able to mute the "ding" sound by turning "Keytone off" but they have since patched that out.

@SitriStahl Totally. I think it's cool that other people enjoy it. I wish Nintendo would employ a similar system to make others happy.
It just doesn't motivate me to play any games, and they mean nothing to me when they appear. XD

I am a victim of gamerscore epeen syndrome. Well, maybe not so much the epeen - bought a 360 shortly after launch and still don't have 10k gamerscore, yuck fou life - but I ask myself often, "what game can I fire up for quick and easy achievements today?"

@Gooblechev - I like achievements as a record of the things I've done in the games that I've played.
The actual Gamerscore value means nothing to me & outside of a few choice favourites where I want to complete everything, having all of the achievements in a game is of little importance to me.

@SitriStahl One reason I dislike achievements are that they don't allow the use of tools like GameShark, GameGenie from the old days. Also, you can't use other people's save games to go farther into the game. I liked when I could rent a game, download a 100% finished savegame and unlock all the characters, levels, etc. to play before I returned the game.
Probably just me though complaining. : (

@nerdydesi1 That's not what's preventing the use of cheat devices, it's online and the 'always on' nature of the consoles. If you put a game genie in an NES, the only thing you're going to screw with is the game, but with an Xbox 360 or a PS3 you have this entire environment outside of playing games that shouldn't be manipulated. Just consider an HDD worth of games and system data that can fail, to a lot of people that would be worse than permanently effing their ROM cartridge way back when. Achievements and Trophies are a part of that, but they aren't the main reason. There weren't any cheat devices in the year and a half PS3 didn't have trophies after all.
Plus, Microsoft and Sony have taken a more strict approach to licensing this generation than anyone other than Nintendo of the NES, SNES, and N64 era. Microsoft in particular, with all of their rules just to get a device operating on the 360, a cheat device - even the safest cheat device - is the last thing they'll allow.

Not a fan of the whole achievement, just talking about the multi-player portion of Halo 1.
It isn't there, instead we get Halo 1 maps for Halo: Reach.

There never was an online multiplayer portion. Halo CE came out before xbox live went live, so it was built with support for system link only.

Erm, actually, Xbox Live wasn't around in 2001. The earliest official gamertag only turned 9 this year. You wouldn't find trolls on Xbox Live until at least the following year.

There will have to be cheevos for multiplayer as well since they will be available to download seperately later. Loving the fact that there will be skulls and terminals to find!

@cool beans Since the multiplayer is Reach (like how Halo ODST's multiplayer was Halo 3), its achievements (if any) will be added to Halo Reach, not part of Halo CE.

Quick poll: How many people actually go for achievements? Would you not buy or enjoy a game if it didn't have achievements? I personally have only worked for like maybe two achievements because they sounded fun, to me achievement don't really matter.
Ps: NOT trolling

@Giovanni117 I go for them if they're not much of an extra hassle. If they sound like too much work I don't bother. I think I've only got like two or three retail games with every achievement.

Personally if I enjoy a game I will also then attempt to get all the achievements. I have received probably 97% of the achievements in halo 3 and reach, just lacking some stupid multiplayer ones, & by judging by this list, this will only be the second game I receive all the achievements for (Tales of Vesperia twas the other)!

I go for all the ones I think I can get within reason... they give you something to reach for besides an ending, and the hard to get ones are satisfying to unlock.. and sometimes, it makes you play the game in a different way than you normally would. I get a lot of fun out of achievements.

Most of the time I don't even remember what my gamerscore is. At first, I thought the idea of achievements was pretty fun, but there's just too many games that make it into a thankless chore. Kill 20,000 dudes, get rank 1 in blah-blah multiplayer match, collect every item in the game, etc.
Not happening. When games become work, I move on to something else.

Umm.. I 1K and platinum every game I buy.
To me, I get more enjoyment and more for my money than just playing through tr campaign on easy then just having the game sit and collect dust for eternity.
And finish all achievements and trophies then put it on eBay.
And for this game in general, I would NOT buy it of it didnt have achievements. It's the same game I played ten years ago with better graphics. Graphics aren't everything to me.
