Ultimate MvC3 hits us with free DLC, Heroes vs Heralds, we ask for more
49
If you want to feel as if you've been punched in the gut, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom knows just the sweet spot to hit -- directly under the solar plexus. Or just watch this video of the free post-launch DLC coming to Ultimate MvC, "Heroes vs Heralds." A team of benevolent heroes fight against Galactus and his posse of evil using a new ability-card system to unlock new moves, such as projectile invincibility, invisibility, new combo chains and many more.
If you don't feel nauseated because of how awesome this video is, you'll definitely feel it from the shaky-cam action. But you should probably persevere until the end -- it's worth a little pain, trust us.

Could they possibly take an even larger dump on the people who got the original MvC3? Now the people who are buying it second are getting the free DLC?

So you expect them to continue supporting the version of the game with 12 fewer characters and stages?

I bought the original , traded it in, and am getting the new one. So i'm out a few bucks, and will soon have a much upgraded version of the game. Nothing to cry about, seriously. Time to get over it. People act like Capcom's killing their first born children or something.

@Chronomaster Do you not know this same game was released already this year?
New Chars? DLC. All that other shit no one is gonna mess with? DLC.
Is it DLC? Hell no it isn't.
Anyone who buys this will continue to support Capcom doing this over and over. Next year I bet there will be 3 disc Street Fighter games or something.

@Uncommon I'm surprised that anyone was surprised by UMvC. I thought it seemed pretty obvious with how bare-bones it was as far as features go and fairly limited character set that there would be a 'Super MVC' on the way. I held off waiting for it, and am being rewarded for my prudence.

@Hoops You are and you aren't, you saved some money on it gratz. However you're months behind on how to play the game unless you know someone else who has it. So whereas others will have a launchpad to start from you have to start from square one.
Plus MVC3 still gave me more playtime than most other games that cost the same so I'm not TOO mad. Plus 12 chars 6? stages a new unique game mode as free DLC, a bunch of balance changes and system additions/upgrades, yeah I'm fine with that being $40. As long as they let this iteration rock for a while I'll be happy. I doubt CAPCOM is going to release a new MVC3 title for a while.

To be honest, I tend to get mad whenever publishers act like greedy assholes, but UMvC3 doesn't bother that much me even though I have vanilla MvC3. Why? because if they just released all the new characters as DLC for MvC3 it would be a lot more expensive than a new retail game and everyone would have different characters so the community would be kind of a mess.
So when it comes to UMvC3 vs DLC I see UMvC3 as the lesser evil.
Now if there is something that does bother me, and quite a bit, is disc locked DLC like the alts in SF4 and the Jill and Shuma DLCs in vanilla MvC3. There should be more complaining about THAT.

This guy gets it! And for people who say "well I don't get chars I don't plan on using" that's fine but I do get them all so idc. I tend to agree with the on disc locked dlc, but the shuma/jill didn't bother me cause what they said was there were like beta versions of them on the disc but they weren't finished in time for them to make it to the disc pressing... and I bought the CE because I knew I was getting them so to me it was all inclusive. I don't mind the on disc if it's a Preorder, or CE bonus.

They said it's free, if you're thinking of like "booster packs" of cards I mean I guess it's possible but they seem to have listed a bunch of major powerups that sound pretty BA to begin with.

are you stupid have you even played XIII i have i have it on my laptop and and VERY impressed i've given up on crapcom for showing no improvements to their SF
SSF4AE friggin sucks and same with SFxT
the system is garbage and should have been 2D instead of that 2.5D shit they are using now .....
plus capcom is lazy
and it took 2 years to finish the current KOF since they hand drew every character
i look forward to playing XIII since it's a massive reboot since 94 when the series fully started

The 2.5 d complaint I don't really get, however their extreme brightness I do not like.
Also how is BB and GG hipster fighters? Just because they're not popular in America?

But I'm gonna be the bigger man and say: that was pretty rad.

Prolly gonna get downvoted for my opinion but w/e.
How have they been dicks? They canceled a game that wasn't approved, but the dev team made it public and got people's hopes up. And their DLC windows got pushed back due to their country almost getting washed away, so they released a new iteration for a game with more features than what you'd get at DLC pricing. Not to mention all the other great games they have coming down the pipeline. Two MH titles that I'm praying come to America, Dragon's Dogma looks great, Asura's Wrath looks interesting. I don't get why hating on CAPCOM is the cool thing to do lately. Especially when they're making better and better fighting games with each release. SF x Tekken has some of the coolest things I've seen in fighting games and it looks so crisp gameplay wise.

Well, even though I think the whole tsunami excuse was some bullshit, it's true that they have been releasing updated versions of their fighting games as separate titles for years now, so it seems kind of weird that people are choosing now to freak out about it. My guess is, Street Fighter IV and MvC3 are such big hits that we're starting to see a resurgence of fighting game players, and the people new to the scene haven't been exposed to this sort of business model before. Hence, the nerd rage.
For me, and for a lot of people, the main problem is that they've...sort of been pretending that Mega Man doesn't exist. True, he hasn't had a non-downloadable title for a while, but that might have to do with the fact that they...you know...haven't released one. And the one they were going to release got cancelled. That alone could be just bad luck, but taken together with his glaring lack of representation in MvC3, AND the lack of any new Mega Man games, AND the cancellation of Mega Man Universe, AND the departure of Keiji Inafune on less than friendly terms...well, they certainly haven't been giving the blue bomber much love recently, which is kind of a shame, whether you believe the conspiracy theories or not.
That said, Capcom is a big company with a gazillion people working at it, the vast majority of whom have nothing to do with their policy of re-releasing of fighting games or Mega Man, so it's pretty silly to deny how cool their games are just to stick it to them.

Remember, their official reason for releasing this game was that the Japan Earthquake. Because it's easier to make a new game than to support your old one with DLC.

I'd like to get this but November is a bad month...I already paid off Skyrim, COD, Halo, Uncharted, and that doesn't even count in me getting Batman Special Edition and Battlefield 3.
Jeez I need to reflect and look at what I'm doing with my life, lmfao

@sammo21 I've been having the same thoughts! There are WAY too many good games coming out all at once and WAY not enough time. This is especially problematic for a completionist like me who likes to max all achievements and whatnot before even considering parting ways with a game. I'll probably hang on to MvC3 just in hopes that I'll get good enough someday to complete mission mode.
