Rumor: Assassin's Creed protagonist Ezio coming to Soulcalibur 5

The picture above was provided to us by an anonymous tipster, which we're told comes from a beta version of the upcoming Soulcalibur 5 appearing at recent fighting game tournament. If this shot is real, Assassin's Creed protagonist Ezio Auditore de Firenze will be a playable character in Soul Calibur 5, set to launch next year.

Unfortunately, we don't have confirmation just yet, and there's no information about whether Ezio is limited to a certain version of the game, or available to anyone playing it. But one thing is for sure: The Hidden Blade would look pretty nice decked out with Soul Edge finery.

This could be the best thing since they put Link in.

@CoconutSkittle Everyone else has only one weapon, two if they have one in each hand, but both Link and Ezio had a small armory in their pants. Plus Ezio has at least two more weapons in each gauntlet. The Soul Edge/Soul Calibur tournament needs to impose a maximum weapon limit for its participants.

No tournament exists in this franchise, people just roam around "Europe" trying to kill each other.

That would be extremely awesome. But even more awesome, is that Cassandra in the picture as well? Good to hear that she is (hopefully) back as she was my favorite character.

The art styles are consistent. So if someone faked it they did a hell of a job mirroring the artist's abilities.

Please don't go 4's route and add exclusive characters to each PS3 and 360. Then sell the character for 5$.

You're forgetting his other move, wherein Ezio clenches his fist, and a moment later another assassin stabs his opponent.

Well i think both games are around the early 1500's. at least it make sense.

Not that I want to be seen defending the inclusion of characters for clearly advertising purposes (Force Unleashed) but Star Wars is set "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away". It could easily have happened during that time period but in a different galaxy and the game, SC4, already shows they travelled through a rift to get to earth. I don't know why people don't realise Star Wars is set in the past, not the future.

Ugh at least it isn't as desperate as the Star Wars characters....

But it always seems like Soul Calibur only has random guest characters for it to be notable anymore....

Like I will eat my hat if Ezio isn't on the front cover of the box to act as some sort of selling point to the American market...

SFxT on PS3 has Cole from inFamous, Toro (Sony Cat) and Kuro (though I think Kuro is just a different color option for Toro) SFxT on 360 has no exclusive characters announced yet, and it seems likely there won't be any.

He isn't say that this IS what is happening with SC5, but he believes it to be likely.

Kratos was included as he's a platform exclusive character, nothing else you said is based on facts. You do know that Assassins Creed is multiplatform?

Ono showed us everything he said at E3. Cole and the two cats are SFxT exclusives, and he said that so far it doesn't look like the 360 version is getting any exclusives.

Yes, I got the SFxT thing wrong. It looks that way but I stand by it for the Ezio thing. He made one giant leap to assume it was a system exclusive., when it's not even confirmed that it's real for any system.

Considering Sony's done everything in their power to get bonus content exclusive for PS3 versions of Assassin Creed games:

1. Exclusive weapons for ACII by connecting with Bloodlines for the PSP.
2. An exclusive mission for the PS3 version of Brotherhood.
3. A PS3-exclusive demo for ACII.
4. A PS3-exclusive Brotherhood multiplayer beta to entice people to stick with that platform for the full version.

I could totally see Sony trying to buy exclusive access to Ezio as a playable character in SCV.

As for Mortal Kombat, Sony got Kratos. Fine, I know Sony made the God of War franchise. But NeatherRealm Studios could have given the 360 an exclusive character of their own. Marcus Phoenix from the 360-exclusive Gears of War would have fit in well, as would Emile from Halo Reach, as he fits the description for an MK game perfectly. Hell, MK characters fought SUPERMAN in MK VS. DC Universe, they could handle a match against a Spartan III. But it didn't happen.

They did not just do that!

Yes...Ezio! A much better fit than Vader, Starkiller, and Yoda. Art looks similar and official, so it's probably legit.

hold up, all the SC characters in the character select are in an anime style except for Ezio and the guy to the right of him. Who's the guy to the right of Ezio?

I really want to believe this, but I've played Soul Calibur 5 and the character selection screen portraits are represented by 3D models, aren't they? I hope I'm wrong.
