The last optional update that added "stability" was made mandatory after a week or two, I doubt this will be different really.

So firmware updates that strip features or change the EULA are mandatory, but updates that improve stability are optional. Good job, Sony.

@logicbus Yes. They require you to agree to their terms to allow you to use their service.

A stability fix is optional, if you'd like to, you can, if not, or if you want to play it safe in case it messes up your console; you can wait.

I hope that helps.
Jordan.

I still have yet to accept the EULA that strips your rights to participate in class action suits. I need to get my letter ready so I can do that. I haven't been online in months...on the PS3 at least.

OK, go sue 'em. Let me know how that works out.

Or you know, you can write a letter opting-out from that specific clause, like they said in the EULA (which I doubt you actually read.

Or you know, you could stop being a whiny baby and stop pissing that you can't "sue" them anymore, as if you were going to do that any point in time anyway.

This attitude of gleefully giving up your rights for a modicum of entertainment baffles me. Especially given how prevalent it seems to be. And besides, the purpose of a class action is to teach a corporation a lesson. No one should expect much in the way of monetary gain from it.

Man, I'm really starting to feel old. This generational gap among older and younger gamers becomes more and more apparent. I can't understand why anyone would be absolutely happy to give away their rights. Class action lawsuits are a lot like unions, they allow a large group of people to collectively bargain with an organization that already has incredible influence over a certain part of individual's lives. But no, that's cool, give the corporations even more power over people. They'll be able to do things like the Love Canal incident and no one will be able to do a damn thing about it. Am I the only one here who remembers all this crap we consumers had to take in the 70's and 80's because corporations were severely under-regulated?

@PR0F3TA I'm not playing online because I plan to write the letter excluding me from their TOS. I'm not playing online because updates over wifi with the PS3 take forever. I'm not playing online because their is no party system or cross-game chat. I'm not playing online because I have Xbox Live and only get exclusives on PS3 (see above).

@PointlessPuppies I doubt you read the EULA, or my comment because I said I planned to write the letter preserving my right to participate in class action suits. This has nothing to do with suing Sony directly, which I don't plan to do, though everyone still has the right to do. What average person would outside of small claims court though? That's why they have class action suits.

Sony can still be sued even if you agree to the new agreement, SCEA does not create laws, crazy I know. EULAs have been found unlawful more often than not, particularly when they try to dictate what rights the consumer has and meddle with legality issues which they have absolutely no power whatsoever in.

@singleandlovinit Unfortunately the recent supreme court case with AT&T pretty much gives Sony free reign to include this kind of language in their EULA.

...Still looking for:

- The option to decrease the size of the Trophy and friends' offline/online messages without removing the notifier entirely
- Custom Soundtrack being a required feature on all new titles(though that's more of a dev/publisher versus Sony thing)
- Screen Name Change option
- Auto-Detection of A/V input
- Party Chat while in-game

I doubt any of it will be incorporated due to licensing and the latter half of this system's console life; but any and all options mentioned would be welcomed.

@foxhound What is autodetect A/V input? The PS3 doesn't have A/V inputs, just outputs. And it autodetects on HDMI. Autodetect on component isn't possible.

As for the other two commenting fellows("elchebib" and "PR0F3TA"), I don't know who pissed in your cornflakes this morning, but lighten up... Sheesh.
I already mentioned that I was well aware it stands little chance of introduction to the console via firmware update. However, if it goes unmentioned, then how is anyone to know what features would be worthy of an update from a paying consumer? I don't expect Sony employees to directly read *every* game blogging/news site & comments; but word-of-mouth & repetition of known issues/desired content does help raise awareness.

Psh.... Typical Sony. Every update Sony releases is pure BS. Nothing groundbreaking and nothing to look forward to. No UI design changes or any significant additions. Same old XMB. In-game XMB pretty much useless. Browser pretty much useless.

I wonder if Sony will ever release an update that I will look forward to.

@HisOmniscience

well your attitude of self righteousness and superiority over a system that cost you 300 dollars baffles me. The class action suit won't pass for months, most likely years, so im not really interested in the wait. I'm even less interested in teaching "corporations a lesson", this isn't Occupy Wallstreet, you're not actually making a point or taking a stand against cororations, all you are doing is clogging the legal system and crying at home because you can't play Black Ops with your buddies.

you wanna know how i will teach Sony a lesson if something that dramatic was to ever happen? i'd buy a Xbox... that hurts them a lot more then a day in court.

Sadly my 60GB PS3 w/ PS2 BC (purchased June 2007) just got the YLOD on sunday. Guess I'm looking at picking up a slim on black friday. I'll try to reflow my old baby to bring it back to life long enough to get my data off and my disc out. I'm 27 hours into Mass Effect 2! I'd hate to lose all that progress with how little I get to game these days...

Anybody who honestly cares about class-action lawsuits, that's perfectly fine and justified. However, don't claim that anyone who DOESN'T care about lawsuits and the sort "Mindless sheep" or "ignorant". I agree to the terms so I can play online when I choose to do so, and have access to the PS Store. I just want to play my games, so if I have to give up something that I don't need or care for so be it.
