Wow. Just, wow. That's.... Sad. Glad I got a PS3 Slim outside a Gamestop for the same price of $80. Thanx, guys! I owe ya one for clearing my fears of not buying it was a mistake!

@AutobotIronhide INR! Got it from a fellow customer who couldn't sell it because the only controller he had for it was cracked on the top. (Doesn't matter; i have a perfectly working Blue DS3). He was theoretically going to get $60, I offered $80.

How this tied in: that $80 WAS gonna go for a Gamestop preorder on Rocksmith for my 360. Funny how things work out!

I was going to 'feel bad' for the guy trading a PS3 in for only $60, but considering he got $80 from you(and was willing to take it), I guess it's a win-win scenario.

heh, I did the same thing last year when a kid was about to trade in his PS3 to Gamestop. Made a nice gift for my brother.

That guy is stupid to sell a slim for less than $200. I can't believe how little these used stores will give sellers, when you can just as easily sell the same item on Amazon or eBay and get sometimes 3x as much. BTW, not only did you shorten "I know right" into an acronym, you spelled it wrong...

It did sound interesting in concept but the execution... I guess the review kind of burst that bubble. I did expect some repetition to learn the instrument and songs, but wow.

@NumberZero I've had the game since midnight and am loving it. If you want to finally start learning to play guitar this is great. It does have it's fun moments, but most reviewers don't realize that this is practice to learn a difficult skill and it won't come easy.

Rest assured it's worth the $80

Yeah I have been noticing the reaction from the general users has been a lot more favorable. Like I pre-ordered the game due to that FreddieW video based on the game.

I am more excited for the upcoming bass support. I want to learn bass and I figured maybe learn some guitar will help me learn bass easier.

As an accomplished guitarist, this review is disappointing, and so I probably won't be picking up this title any time soon.

However, this review is hardly fair - could we get a review from someone who *isn't* already an accomplished guitarist (and thus is part of this game's target audience)?

@BlueRajasmyk you hit the nail straight on the head for me. I am not a guitarist by any measure. This "game" seemed like the best way to at least learn some fun songs on a real guitar. I think putting an experienced guitarist to review this game is like getting Van Gogh to do a "by the numbers" painting meant for kids. I hope that they have a second review by someone who isn't so proficient to see what they say.

@DXBroadband I completely agree. I am absolutely loving this game and it is WELL worth the price. I was excited about it, preordered, and have not been even remotely disappointed. I might have been if I was some sort of fantastic guitarist already and was looking for some sort of ultimate guitar hero crossover, but that's not the case. If you're anything short of that, you will love this game if you have any interest in guitar.

"Drop-D minus"

Perfect description of the nu-metal fad back in the early 2000s. Children and their drop-d tuned guitars.

Well I am still going to pick it up, because my 300$ guitar is just sitting in a guest bedroom doing jack squat. For 20 percent of my investment I might get some more skill and enjoyment out of it, and that's a risk I'm willing to take.

"But the reality of the situation is that Rocksmith fails as both an educational platform and as a rhythm title, despite its groundbreaking technological foundations." Along with the rest of the review, is mostly the opposite of every other review that I've read so far. Maybe your tv's audio was messed up? Also I disagree that 5th-fret tuning is that important. It's good to know but not crucial. Hopefully no one takes this review and decides not to get it. Look at other reviews first. You should always read multiple reviews of anything and never base a title's quality on one person opinions. Multiple reviews> one.

Go figure that a review is an opinion article and not a factual article.

@Kougeru I agree on 5th fret tuning, most people I know just pick it up, or they don't. Also, it requires a reference, or that a string is in tune to begin with (or a good ear). Electronic tuner is cheap, easy and accurate.

I read a couple reviews and a lot of people said that it's a niche title and only good if you are interested in learning the guitar. What the eff else would you get it for? I would be surprised if anyone got this without the intentions of learning the guitar or a beginner that wants to learn more. The only good thing about poor reviews is that I will be able to get this game cheap within a month!

Well, I'm planning on getting this today and seeing if I agree with the reviewer. I don't care as much for this game being "fun" as I care about its ability to give me a different way to practice and play. I spend $$ on other learning methods so I don't think it's unfair for this price since it includes an active cable.

I read another comment on Amazon where the guy specifically mentioned how to get around lag and that going through HDMI WOULD introduce lag.

Then again, the reviewer could be spot on and I could end up wasting 80 bucks...but that is not the worst thing I have done.

It would be sad to see this flop and never be tried again. I want to see DLC for this sucker.

@SnapperDragon Read some other reviews. There is a link up on the Rocksmith Facebook page that has a writer who seems less experienced than the reviewer here. He is also having his girlfriend test the game and she has never picked up a guitar before.

I have it and so far I'm loving it. The mini-games seem to be helping me move along the fretboard and my hands and callouses are getting the workouts they need. It's been a blast so far.

So try it. Read some other reviews. But don't write it off just yet. For me, a guy with 0 guitar skill, it has been great.

Yeah, I think I'll go with Wired's 9/10 rating over Joystiq's 2.5/5. I can't comment on the game as I haven't bought it yet, but the Joystiq reviewer definitely seems to have gone at the game from a much different perspective from mine (and the target audience's). I will be picking this up and hopefully learning to play the guitar after many, many years of failure.

seriously , why this article talks about a new way to play music games...ROCKBand 3 pro modes are perfect and way better...its like been playing with tabs and for more than 1 or 2 players...rocksmith is just guitar!, the only thing i can complain against rockband its that to play it for real we need to buy that fender squier for noobs, i do play guitar i own my gibson standard usa, and i ll have to pay 300 bucks for a cheap guitar? , on rocksmith i could use mine, but the game looks boring...also how can i buy a fender squier for rb3 here in Ecuador...its immposible , and why rockband hasnt done a big ad campaing...people are still playing guitar hero! lol

I am still getting this game.

Using the composite audio cables to your home theator system should COMPLETELY eliminate lag, since the signal is not going the the TV at all. I have done it on RB3's freestyle drum mode. This guy did something wrong.

As far as the gameplay goes, nothing is more "bland and desolate" than learning guitar from sheet music or tablature. This has to be more fun than that. This reviewer seems to be a little jaded....
