Ezio's type of character is what's been missing from these sort of games, characters with accents that define where they come from. Nearly everyone's english accent has always sounded kinda ditzy and generic. Which is why I almost always ended up switching to Japanese.

Language and accent are two very different things.

That would work perfectly if he played as Mitsurugi all the time.

Pretty much, it was better than his english voice actor.

Just when my wallet thinks it will be getting back up from this great gaming season, in comes a stiff shot from my first purchase of 2012.

I'll be giving this one a pass. I've always loved Soul Calibur but after SC4, I can't risk spending money on a game that I won't play that much. Sucks because I would really like to play as Ezio

@Prboi

If you like the Soul Calibur series, why won't you play the new game?

@tendoboy1984 Because he won't play it that much?

And to that, I have that same fear. I barely played SoulCalibur III or IV. They weren't bad or anything, they just didn't have the same draw as II did. They need to bring back and greatly expand upon Weapon Master and take the focus off of creating your own character to win me over again. The way they botched the XBLA port of the original really hurt my faith in them too.

Man this series has been stale for years. SCIV was weak, and this looks like it with some motion blur and a few techniques, but the core crux has no innovations. Any one play soul blade/edge? The first ever souls game. That had an "Edge master" mode, where each character's unique story was told like a book with sketches, and you unlocked their weapons by travelling a map and completing challenges. Yes that's right each character had a different path, none of this weak pick a character then take on the same tower of souls crap that was in SCIV. It also had an arcade mode. I bought souls II-IV each time hoping for the series to get better and it hasn't. It's just stagnated man. It needs new innovations. What about a more interesting parrying system? Or blocking which anims that involve hops for low attacks, and leans and dodges for high and mids. That would really add to the fluidity of combat I believe.

@Kyozaki

Totally agree. I loved the first Soulcalibur, there were nothing like it before. I literally played it so much that I wasted my DC (the laser cannon got burned).

Then SCII came, and it was good, but kinda more of the same. SC III and IV I played at friends' houses and man... the only thing that changed was the bigger boobs and the ridiculous outfits, that keeps becoming more ridiculous with each interation.

I have actually 0 interest in SCV

Will 5 have a character creator like 4 did? I quite enjoyed that part of the game.

And I wish Gatsu from Berserk could be a guest character, but with a good enough character creator I can recreate him (using Nightmare moveset).

I may be wrong, but using a hood that low wouldn't be awful to your peripheral vision? I mean, that's really important for an assassin/fighter

Still hoping we get another extra character or two.
I'm not a big SC fan, but it's usually the extra character's that sell me on it.
So with Ezio getting announced as the extra and not being a AC fan as well i'm kinda at a loss here.

Don't get me wrong he's a great fit and I know a ton of people are excited and going to get a kick out of playing as him. But for me it was always the extra character I connected with. Such as Spawn or Darth Vader.

It was the same thing with Super Smash Bros. I'm not a big Nintendo fan but the inclusion of Solid Snake made me sink in a ton of hours into that game.

I guess i'll wait and see now, or hopefully someone get's announced that I wouldn't mind playing as.

I think it's actually quite a huge task to re-shape the whole game now. Unless they do a major upgrade of their engine like Capcom did for SF4, it's hard to imagine how they could give the game a fresh new flavour without losing its soul entirely.
I think Ezio will be the main reason to buy the game though.
It's absolutely true that IV was a near-failure in every aspect, even if the visuals keep stunning me whenever I come back to it. The only episode I've missed in the series is III, but I recall having spent days mastering the different modes in the first 2, Soul Edge remaining by far my favourite.
I do believe IV was an "actual-gen' essay posing the foundations of V. I also believe Namco has got more decency than Capcom who are unashamed to sell three times the same unfinished games, if not more, even if they must also be plagued by the ongoing bullshit corporate mentality. And, oh, effeminate characters do not sell anymore, guys. Ask Final Fantasy makers. The hot soup's turned cold.

It must be hard putting him into the game. After all, he knows only 2 moves: Killing things and not killing things, the latter he rarely uses.
