A Kirby game? A cakewalk?

That... kind of sounds like every mainline Kirby game in existence, actually. It's never really been known for its difficulty. It's not especially worse for it, either, it's just how Kirby is - he was designed to be easy to get into for non-gamers right from the very first title, and it's admirable how well he's kept that up.

I omit titles like Tilt 'n' Tumble, though. That shit was HARD.

ESPECIALLY trying to play it on an airplane. No wonder they want you to turn off all electronic devices. Playing that game with turbulence was enough to make anyone want to jump out of a plane without a parachute.

Kirby's Dreamland 3 was pretty tough too
if you tried to get a star for every level.

@ELTEE: That was what I thought when I read it as well. Kirby's always been able to pretty much fly non-stop.

This looks great. Suffice it to say, if you're a Kirby fan you're probably going to buy, and likely won't be disappointed.

@ELTEE Oh man, you're totally right. I have played a bunch of Kirby games in the past, but Kirby 64, Smash Bros. and Epic Yarn more (and more recently) than most others, meaning that in my head, flight defaults to limited. I've rewritten the section, thanks for pointing that out!

Anyway, it's kind of weird, this game still has areas that look like they would be platforming "challenges" if you couldn't just hold jump forever...

@jcfletcher Yeah no biggy. I'm stick gonna get this game if only in the hope its anything like superstar (which it kind of sounds like it is). THAT is a game which managed to be challenging even when the powers were crazy.

Still, if the infinite floating is one of your major issues then I think I can add a star or so to the final score for myself, since that's never been an issue for me in all the other Kirby games. In fact I'd be disappointed if they hadn't kept that aspect in. Kirby isn't like your average platformer after all, it's about different things than just platforming.

This sounds like everything I hated about Kirby's Adventure. Press attack button to win and infinitely floating ruins the platforming aspect (the reviewer seems to have forgotten that this was the case in every Kirby game except Kirby 64).

The only Kirby games I've liked are the original Dream Land (copy ability be damned), Epic Yarn (adorable, no infinite floating, and mulitplayer), and Super Star (tons of attack with each power and the levels are claustrophobic enough that infinite floating isn't a problem).

Because it took out everything I loved about Super Star. No complex movesets, no helpers, and it brought back boring level design. I did like the secret objectives, but it wasn't enough to win me over on the game.

The secret objectives were what made that game for me. As well as the animal friends and the different combinations with each element, that was just awesome. Just playing with some of those is a joy in itself. Remote controlled electric bird? Awesome. I really liked the art style as well.

Comparatively, Superstar just felt kinda run-and-gun action-y to me. Well, run and... inhale? And yes I 100%'d that game as well.

The difficulty in Kirby games has always been within getting all the additional items, through trial and error in levels, trying to carry one power from the very start to the very end; all the while dodging the left side of the screen as it comes for you. And of course, trying to figure out exactly where everything is.

(Seriously, Milky Way Wishes? A hidden TAC planet for Copy? SERIOUSLY?)

That's a shame! Kirby Super Star for SNES is one of my favorite games. This one sounds like a sequel, though the SNES game actually got pretty difficult at times!

Though I'll still get it for the multiplayer, which is what made Super Star so great. Not much is more fun than having your friend hop on top of you in the Wheel powerup.

We're just not the target demographic in a Kirby game, sadly. You'd think Nintendo could at least offer a hard mode that you have to intentionally set it to so the rest of us can enjoy it more.

Most Kirby games are easy, it's the nature of the franchise. Sakurai stated that was his intent with the original Kirby's Dreamland game, to make it easy and accessible for beginning gamers.

This sounds as perfect as I expected. I'm gonna buy two copies: one for my daughter and one for my nieces.

I think quality games for preschoolers are hard to find, so it's good to know you can still trust kirby to fill that market... and of course I'm going to play it with my wife and my daughter :-)

Kirby isn't just for preschoolers. It's a game everyone can enjoy. If you really think a preschooler can beat a Kirby game, give them a copy of Super Star and tell them to beat Milky Way Galaxy by themselves.

I didn't mean they're only for preschoolers. What I mean is that for younger gamers it's less frustrating to start with games that are on the easy side, even if it has parts that are harder by the end.

"it has the widest variety of offensive moves I've ever seen in a Kirby game,"

More so than Superstar? If you haven't played it pick it up on the DS or the Wii VC, extremely worth it. That game had move lists to show everything a certain power could do. It has THE best power system in any of the Kirby titles, Crystal Shards comes in second.

I'll still pick this up. Hard games are good, but you do need fun, easy going games to balance it out and Kirby is a top contender there.

Amazingly Returns has a movelist as well, and -adds- moves to old abilities as well, stone for example has one that lets kirby turn his fist into a rock and uppercut with it.

Too easy? All Kirby games are easy, the franchise is made for kids.

That being said, it's all a matter of personal opinion. RMC over at GoNintendo found parts of the game to be very challenging, especially the Challenge Rooms and the final level & boss.

I don't care either way. It's the first new traditional Kirby for consoles in a LONG time. We've been waiting for this game since the GameCube, and it's about damn time it came out Nintendo's own little Duke Nukem Forever.

Returns to Dreamland can't possibly be easier than the original Dreamland... I'm getting it, and I'll love it. Just like I love Kirby's Dreamland, Kirby's Adventure, and, Kirby Super Star.

Call me a fanboy, I don't care. I love the Kirby series and I know I'll enjoy this game.

I'm sorry but epic yarn was trash, don't really care if people get mad at me but the whole "Lose everything and you don't get to play another level" didn't matter to me when every single level was boring and had 0 danger to it with no risk of being punished, yeah I can unlock another level, but why should I care? It's just me walking down a hallway filled with things that can't hurt me.

Also the music was awful for a kirby game, I felt like I was in a nursery the entire game and it was just a pile of shit, no kirby tunes, nothing exciting, it was just dull.

Return to Dreamland is everything I want in a kirby game, and does exactly what it says on the tin, it returns to dreamland for me, same fun gameplay that I liked the series for originally and a blast to mess around with using the powers to play various parts of the game with, and it has pretty sweet music as well.

@tendoboy1984 That's exactly what I was expecting actually, I wanted all of the music to be kirby's classics remixed to fit the settings, and until I heard the alright-at-best dreamland remixes at the last part of the game I absolutely hated every song.

Kirby's always had pastel colors and cute hug-worthy characters, and it's always had peppy uplifting music to fit along with it, a kind of music I haven't heard in any other game, Epic yarn's just felt... boring and lifeless, like I said before, like I walked into a nursery, it had no energy behind it, no pep, it was just kind of dull.

I actually found it to be very fitting. It was a lighter, fluffier Kirby game, so the lighter, fluffier music seemed to add to the charm. To each his own, though.

My favorite original piece from Epic Yarn (at least I don't remember it from any other Kirby game):
