I wonder if Marvelous had made a Harvest Moon MMO sooner would it have been as successful as Smurfs Village and Farmville...?

So just how long has their mobile division been around anyhow?

Dem numbers be mighty impressive but I have a sneaking suspicion that the requisite time has not been applied to determine its true viability.

Give them a decade or two and if they are still pulling in these percent whales then I'll be impressed.

I mean this week I bought a bag of Halloween candy and my candy consumption is up 500% vs last week but my yearly candy consumption likely hasn't changed.

@Everything I say is true

Because I'm skeptical about marketing schtick throwing around some large percentages that deal with an emerging market/division of a company..... that hasn't had time to level out or prove itself given time.

Damn sometimes I wish I could just be shortsighted and enjoy life.

It's actually pretty sobering when you think about the crazy valuations that social gaming companies have received. Capcom has a successful freemium game in Smurfs Village. In addition to this, they have other mobile/casual games. And in six months, that division only brought in about $33 million. And yet people keep valuing independent casual gaming companies in the 100s of millions or even billions of dollars.

maybe Monster Hunter would have gotten a higher performance if it wasn't Japan-only?

No wonder the smurf mobile game is doing well when a 6 year old recently managed to buy virtual "smurf berries" for around 4200 dollars using his mothers phone without her knowledge.

Man, one thing I been thinking lately is that it must be horrible to be a professional in the game industry.

Think about it. You enter the business thinking you are going to work on the games you love, helping improve the genres you love. Maybe Mega Man Legends 3.

Instead, you get to work on licenced casual games.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. People like casual mobile games, I respect that. The money is in there too. But if you know programming and game design you probably had different expectations.

It's sort of like being a chef and end up working at a the corporate office of a fast food chain. You know what I mean?

Their profits would have been a lot higher if they would have just released Legends 3 Prototype to the 3DS store for the 2$ they were asking for!

its these kind of numbers that are making the gaming industry go in the wrong direction. instead of investing several years and millions of dollars into making a great game, they will waste their resources making uninspired crap meant for 8yr olds.

Uninspired crap? I think not.

Getting 8yr olds to buy $99 wheelbarrows of smurfberries using their parents' iTunes accounts is a deviously brilliant, dare I say inspired, idea.
