Wildly successful indie developer RedLynx is now a part of French mega-publisher Ubisoft. RedLynx announced the acquisition this morning (evening for the Finland-based outfit) via its forums, where company CEO Rero Virtala explained the decision. "We were attracted by Ubisoft's focus on creativity and quality," he said, also pointing to the publisher's "long-term strategy on both the traditional and digital distribution video game markets."
Ubisoft has been pushing quality digital titles hard over the last year, with everything from unique one-offs like Outland and From Dust to re-releases of classics like TMNT, Prince of Persia, and Beyond Good & Evil HD. The publisher was no doubt attracted to RedLynx's massively popular Trials series, which is set to receive a sequel in the coming months.

Bad news. Sold your souls to the devil. Former PC developer now owned by idiots that use the most draconian PC DRM out there and delays PC titles.
Well done, you and your quaint little bike puzzle game. Hope the money is worth selling out in the worst possible manner.

Total BS, you are attracted by the money. Lying about it makes it worse, not better.

Oh no! People who work for a living decided to make some more money and utilize all the advantages that a large publishing company can offer to focus more on their products and less on the business side of things. How could they! Seriously though, "sold their souls"? Video games really are serious business I guess.

In this creative industry, everything you create costs money. Maybe you enjoy working for free, but I don't. Having money as a game studio can give you creative freedom and allow you to take more risks rather than constantly worry that single project you can afford to work on might fail.
They were motivated by money, for all the right reasons. This isn't teeming with greed.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Wait, did you say Ubisoft? I just pulled out my usual "small dev (insert team that created beloved indie/small dev game here) gets acquired by (insert EA, Activision, Microsoft here)" response. Cool beans.

Good for them. That game is thoroughly awesome. Ubisoft does have a pretty diverse catalog now.

@kmcroc I thought they were independent since Trials was a PC game long before 360.

Trials HD 2 inc (PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita, PC).
And enough DLC to make 2 more games, of course.

Step 1. Beat the odds and create a great indie game- Done
Step 2. Beat the odds again and fit into the new corporate structure and demands.
