Those Kmart copies of Modern Warfare 3 that slipped off store shelves have been doing big business on eBay, but none bigger than this copy which sold -- four days before its retail release -- for $1,725. Though the buyer's identity is a mystery, considering their abundance of free time, love of the franchise and inability to judge the value of everyday objects, we have to assume it's the either a prankster with too much time on their hands, or the World's Richest Juggalo.
Speaking of record-setters, did you know that the final bidding price technically makes this copy of Modern Warfare 3 the most valuable thing ever sold at Kmart? It's true! Look it up!
[Thanks, Prince.]

You're right. I used to work for a company that sold things on Ebay.
We could bid this up to 4,000 dollars and just never pay.
We would receive a "not paid item strike" so we could then proceed to do it again, two more times. This would certainly piss that dude off.

@Ravenok That is indeed a pretty humorous observation.
Pay $1.7k for the game 4 days early, takes 4 days to ship.

Not sure how you could actually believe this was a real bid. I don't even know why this is news worthy.

i've found that i much prefer Amazon these days. i used to use ebay, but since i have Amazon Prime (two-day shipping for nearly everything) the value of ebay has dropped drastically for me. not to menton sometimes you can get screwed over hard if you're not careful. never happened to me, personally, but i've heard horror stories about people bidding, paying, and ultimately never receiving their package. if you DO decide to use ebay, just make sure you look at the seller's ratings / feedback section.

Ebay is really bad about this. They need to send out hired thugs to kick peoples' asses when they bid and then don't pay.

Indeed but how many people fall for empty boxes seemingly every week on eBay? A lot of these scammers clearly put "Please note this is just a box" and STILL sell their items. I would never do it but it does happen.
It's a devious way to make money.

not unless the poster was smart about it.... if its in the description of thats what he was getting then hes stuck with it...
someone managed to sell an empty xbox 360 box for $250
even though the fact it did mention it was a empty box it was not entirely clear of that fact. right off the bat..
buyers protection will only protect the buyer if the item is not exactly as advertised...

I actually saw a case exactly like that on Judge Judy (yes, that's right), and she decided that as the price was so high and the seller had deliberately tried to make the fact less obvious, that she was indeed partaking in misleading advertising.
I believe that Paypal have come to the same conclusion, hence why the practice pretty much died out a couple of years ago/

Why can't people just wait? You are going to get banned for playing it early anyways.

He can't play it early; the shipping's going to take UNTIL it's out. Hell, this seems like it's a good marketing strategy, offer something early, send it with shipping so that it doesn't get to someone until it's actually released.

Not entirely. I know some stores that break their embargoes and let people buy games the weekend before release. It's not a totally uncommon phenomenon, either, as Microsoft and probably Sony have said, in the past, that embargo-breakers won't get banned for playing a legitimate copy of the game early.
Those who download a leaked copy and try to play it on a hacked console, however, will be banned. Key difference. Obviously, those who play an early copy will be under more scrutiny, but they won't be banned as long as they bought a true retail copy.

Nevermind, I just read the OTHER Joystiq article on this, stating that pre-release play of MW3 is "not authorized" and that doing so "may impact your account".
Well, sucks to be those people. I guess they'll just have to... I don't know, wait four days?
No patience anymore in this generation, is there?

Can anyone point out the wit to me? The comment certainly wasn't clever or even funny. The person claiming to get a laugh out of it is clearly new to the concept of humor (that or is attempting to jump on an anti-CoD player bandwagon).
Even though this is probably fake, its not really out of line with what fans of any franchise will do to get their hands on a product early. But what do you expect from CoD players? amirite? So funny.
As for who's the troll, its definitely the guy taking shots at CoD players.
You guys bore me.
