This is the one and only title that has me hyped for the Wii U, for one reason alone:

If it's a port or even remotely similar game to the PS3/X360 offerings, I *really* want to see how someone can keep up and play at a close skill level to those with standard controllers. If Tecmo can pull this off, then I'm fine with saving for that console system. Even if I have an Everest-sized mountain of doubt toward the success, and more importantly, longevity of the Nintendo Wii U.

@foxhound They could always make it work with the classic controller.

What's the point of that? The WiiU controller functions as a classic controller. It's set up as a classic controller, only with a screen on it.

The point being that it would be an ergonomic controller, and not a stupid, unwieldy tablet.

Have you held it yourself?
Every reviewer who has touched the thing has found it oddly comfortable and light.

I cringe everytime I see a picture of that controller.

I have nothing against Nintendo, I just don't think it's going to work.

@Damn Dirty Ape I don't think it matters if it's light, and each hand grip is properly moulded. It doesn't really matter how far apart the handgrips are - after all you can play with the Wiimote & nunchuck however far apart you want - as long as it's comfortable :3.

However, trading joystiqs for circle pads? No.

I thought the same thing about the Wii Remote.

That turned out to be one of my favorite control set ups (when paired with the nunchuck).

All of the press that used it at E3 praised it and said despite what the pictures would have you believe, it is very light and comfortable. I think it will be.

@Dickhole Pasta But the Wii U is a single touch screen with a stylus, that is not comparable to real tablets.

@JasonDassh The Wii-mote and Nunchuk are actually on the top of my list for "most comfortable controller". I can play with my hands anywhere I want, the only downside is not being able to play with one hand when I go for a drink. I remember lying on my back and playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 with my arms crossed and wrapped up in a blanket, I couldn't get the same experience with an average controller, my arms have to extend so my hands envelop the edges of the controller properly. Nintendo offered the perfect controller design this generation imo, it just missed the mark on a good speaker and good motion sensors.

So it's just like the 360 launch where more than half of the titles were PS2 ports? Sounds about normal.

Yup, that's half

Gun, Madden 06, NBA 2K6, NBA Live 06, NFS: Most Wanted, King Kong, Tiger Woods 06, and Tony Hawk: American Wasteland. So, yeah, I was wrong. 8 out of 18 isn't quite half.

The EA Sports/2K titles were not ports, neither were King Kong or NFS. I was at E3 in '05 as well as a seperate trade show and had many conversations with various developers. All of the sports titles you mentioned and NFS were the first iteration of new engines for the at the time next generation of consoles. King Kong for the 360 was a different graphics engine that it shared with the PC. The holiday season of '05 was my third as an executive in the retail channel of the industry and I was well versed in the product launch as a matter of professional and personal interest.

The only PS2 ports were GUN and THAW - that would be 2 which is not half of 18.

Yeah, those sports ports were mind-blowingly different on the 360. Also, I'm not sure that assistant managers at GameStop are technically "executives".

I did not say they were mind blowingly different, but they were in fact not ports - so way to fail there.

That's right, I was a GameStop asst manager, I just like to call myself an executive; I was hoping to magically jump up as a buyer for one of the largest big box retailers in the country but that never happened.

People who tried it say it's surprisingly comfortable and light, but I'm sure it won't feel the same to everyone. Very curious about it myself.

@eat it It's cheap, hollow and doesn't have a vibration motor. A resisive screen isn't going to weigh that much, and assuming and all plastic assembly, it looks like it could be extremely light, barring the battery.

With that and Darksiders 2, the Wii U launch is sounding pretty damn good. Hopefully it won't only live on ports or remakes for months after..

That's the problem, the 3DS's biggest games at launch were Street Fighter and Nintendogs.
I'll already have both the games you mentioned before the Wii U even comes out and because the Wii U isn't portable I see no reason to buy them again.
I assume it will have atleast one good new game though that will warrant a console purchase from me.

Exactly. Besides the must-have Nintendo games, it needs something exclusive, not just games that people can also buy on consoles they've already had for years. Unless they have something significantly different to offer.

Well at least the good 3rd party stuff is starting to trickle onto WiiU. It'll be fascinating to see how it plays with that tablet controller. I have no doubts that it will look gorgeous if WiiU is everything Nintendo has been promising. My interest is certainly peaked.

I'm concerned about many of their "hardcore" games coming out. While I appreciate that they finally want games like Batman or Dirt on a Nintendo system, I don't really think these games are going to carry the system being that they're going to be over a year old by then. While this game looks great, I'm concerned that it won't differ much in gameplay and graphics to warrant buying a new system.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the WIi U will eventually have titles that are worth buying, but Nintendo needs to show off some original games for this thing to build up hype, because honestly simply showing off ports of 360 games and PS3 games with slight change isn't doing it.

I want a remake of the Battletech sega genesis game, where one player controls the legs of the mech and the other the weapons.

In the wii U version one player will play on the tv using the wiimote and nunchuck to control the legs. Using the pointer as a light machine gun. Much like that wii play tank game. The second player will use wiiU screen to play in firstperson mode and have the option to use the sticks or the gyroscope to aim.

Its to easy to come up with crazy fun ways to play with this thing.

If they were actually smart, they'd have Super Mario Universe done and ready for the Wii-U launch. Better yet, bundled with the system.

But they won't.

Very true. I know a lot of people would be pissed if they did that ("We wanted it last year on the Wii!") but if they had planned on doing it that way, I think I would probably be a bit more upset about having to re-buy the same game only a year later to play the better version.
