Still waiting for the inevitable redesign. Super Mario 3D Land is literally the first non-remake game I've wanted to play on 3DS, and one game isn't enough.

But nintendo swear over Bowser´s grave that they´ll never, EVER release a new design for the 3DS, this the one, and nobody is going to change it, so i suppose i should just go and waste my money on this one as a new bigger and better and cheaper version is not going to be released.....right....

@Hunter141072 If I had a half dime for every time Nintendo played PR Roulette, I'd have enough half dimes to say "hey everybody, looky here! You see this here collection of half dimes I gots? Well, they all came from those many times them there Nintendo folks played a little game called 'PR Roulette'." Naturally, they'd all be impressed at the sizable collection of half dimes I had acquired by such means. I mean, who wouldn't be, right? Exactly.

Can we stop this whole "WAITIN ON THE REDESIGN" crap?

The number of people angry they would have to re-buy their 3DS is higher than those who would be happy with their slightly better console.

The 3DS is fine as it is, and is a console with a huge amount of potential. People did this crap with the DS "Not buying it, waiting for the portable gamecube everyone's talking about".

That actually happened.

@Nergy and they always throw in the "getting a vita instead" reason.
Cuase the PSP 1000 as the only version that came out and they certainly didn;t make 6 other versions of it...

First, I'd say that waiting for a redesign this time is more valid than in the past because there are games that will use three more buttons than are on the base unit and the use of these buttons requires the purchase of an ugly add-on that needs batteries to keep it happy.

Second, I didn't wait for the DS lite the first time around, but I did wait until Dawn of Sorrow was released, which was a good 11 months after launch. Hell, a new Metroidvania may be all I need to give in this time, too.

You;re right, it is all relative. Was Nintendo facing such stiff competition in mobile gaming the first year of the DS? Was the economy as terrible when the DS launched? Didn't the DS premier at $149.99? Thanks for bringing up the fact that the 3DS is doing even better than the article implies.

Brilliant post :)

It is a different world out there right now compared to 2006. Nintendo will probably NOT do a redesign for at least 2 more years. I think they know that at this point in time they would get severe blow back from their fan-base and I am pretty sure they will not see the same exodus to the new redesign like they did with the DS Lite. The original DS was gigantic as compared to the Lite. And people had a decent amount of extra cash laying around during the mid 2000's.

You know, after reading what you said it struck me that a 2 year away redesign is pretty likely. Think of it like this: First they introduce the Circle Pad Pro and try to convince devs to use it so it becomes almost necessary in a few cases. Then after 2 years they introduce a design on the level of the GBA SP or DSi, which offers much more changes than just including the CPP attachment.

They specifically mentioned that that was an EDITORIAL!!! Look up the definition, you tool. It is completely opinionated and SEPARATE from actual sales data and news stories.

I'm saying they based their OPINION (editorial) on incomplete data. By that logic i can look at a game that sells 10million copies in the first week and create an edtorial that the game wll sell 520 million copies in the first year.

Just because it's an "opinion" or "blog" or w/e you want to call it, doesn't mean people can't hold it against you. Ultmately they are responsible for what they write, whether "it is completely opinionated and SEPARATE from actual sales data and news stories" or not.

You tool, you.

As soon as a new Pokemon game is announced for the 3DS the system will sell like hotcakes, and I'm not talking regular hotcakes, like...SUPER hotcakes.

With syrup...

3D remakes called Shining Sapphire and Resonating Ruby would sell assloads. Throw in Emanating Emerald and the word play would be complete.

They never remake the "third" game in the series, though :-(

We're still missing ThunderYellow, MindCrystal and inevitably we'll miss out on EmanatingEmerald.

I have never played a Pokemon game before. Is that series of games still ultra popular? I even see young adults talking about the game on other forums. I was always under the impression that was a game series for younger kids.

Its still quite popular to be honest and while the design and the look of the game i guess would appeal to kids more, adults who are into the series know that the intricacies of the game are quite deep and solid enough for any hardcore adult gamer to enjoy. I'm 28 and recently bought HeartGold on DS and i love it.

It's what I've been trying to say, the 3DS is doing much better than the DS in game quality for its year. Its public opinion that is the main difference between first year DS and first year 3DS.

The DS didn't take a huge price cut in its first few months, did it?

That the 3DS outsells the DS isn't that big an achievement in light of that price cut. At best it's a disaster averted.

The DS also started at $150 so I hardly see how the price cut matters if people are still paying more.

I remember when Nintendo was so unsure about the DS that they called it an "experiment" and they claimed that the Gameboy line would continue alongside it.

I love my iPhone and have quite a bundle of really good games on it. But it could never ever replace my 3DS or the PS Vita when it is in my sweaty hands. I only wish the Vita was 200 bucks instead of 250 but you do get quite a bit of nice hardware for that money.

Might buy on once they put two circle pads. The psp was held back by only having one, you'd think nintendo would have realized this and put two in. if they don't add one I'll never get one. They understand the need because they made an attachment to solve the problem. Come on nintendo!

Not since the 3DS was released have I seen so much junk peddled as legitimate news in video gaming. All the Nintendo "doomsday" scenarios have been laughable and ridiculous. Yes, the price drop happened but it's not like Nintendo wasn't the first company to ease up on overpriced hardware (maybe the first to do it so fast, lol). And all the claims that smartphone gaming (particularly iOS) is going to effectively kill Nintendo's (and to a lesser degree Sony's) handheld markets is...laughable to me. People, particularly gamers, like this crazy thing called 'variety.' I have an iPod touch, absolutely love it, and have tons of games for it. But I've yet to play anything on iOS that rivals the fun I've had with Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, Etrian Odyssey I-III, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, The World Ends with You, etc. The 3DS (and the Vita) are going to be just fine.

Still waiting for the good third party stuff. I, for one, am not into playing more mario, zelda, star fox, etc. New franchises, keep it fresh! :/

I still have a handful of games I want to beat for the DS (the Laytons, Radiant Historia, Okamiden, Aliens Infestations, and if I ever had the time, the Devil Survivor games...).

I think the sales will pick up with a new Pokemon (cmon new battle system and less grind?) and once the third parties leave the old system.

Really? Comparing first year 3DS sales to first year DS sales? Lets compare first year Xbox 360 sales to Xbox sales. OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO BE DIFFERENT. A user base has already been created, which means more people will buy a follow up console than a new console.

It's true. The DS had a slow start, and then it picked up momentum. but it was done on the strength of the redesign AND some game-changing software, neither of which the 3DS has at this point. The DS really came to its own with Nintendogs, and the Brain series--concepts that had never appeared before in such an accessible way. The 3DS needs something just as innovative to become a success, something that a mobile phone cannot do. Right now, I don't think anyone knows what it is--and it's definitely not 3-D.
