If it's DLC, they could at least have him play slightly differently. Take away the sword, and focus on a couple other elements. Boom. Everybody walks away happy.

To my knowledge, X only had a sword when Zero gave him/let him borrow/or left him (during one of Zero's 10,000 deaths) his Z-saber. If there are exceptions to this (and I'm guessing there's at least one maverick-power that is sword-like), it doesn't really matter. The X everyone knows and loves is not primarily a melee combatant.

@killias2 I'm sure that they can find an enemy powerup to model the Z-Saber and other moves after. Plus, I don't think this rules out the original Megaman as a possible character since he appears on that apprehended/slain poster without either of those words over his profile.

@killias2 Yup, during a certain cutscene during X2 (secret, gave X and extra level of charge) and all of X6, X did have the Z-Saber. It works, really. But not very well.

Capcom might as well point and laugh at us as that is the exact same thing as offering X as a freaking costume.

Considering how some of the DLC costumes have special dialogue, it's possible Capcom went the extra mile and got a different voice actor for the X costume.

UPDATE we've received a response from Capcom: "Yep. What, you're surprised? Are you new? We had a meeting on this and it was agreed that people WOULD like to play as Mega Man X, BUT they would buy that option regardless of how it was implemented. We made the choice to make him an outfit, as opposed to an actual fighter, to leave more time for our designers to write in more color option DLC for all the fighters."

Whatever it is you want, expect Capcom to do the EXACT opposite, because that's exactly what they will do.

Capcom is going out of their way to not include Megaman in future plans. Honesty, I wanted the series to take a break and think about the future, but this is ridiculous.

I think MMU might have looked a little bit too convoluted at times, but I was really looking forward to it anyway. I laughted hard at bad-cover Megaman, besides, it seemed to be the only way to play Megaman 2 Powered Up-style.

lol at this point, I'm glad Capcom is doing. The fact that they are trolling the megaman is quite funny. Putting in so much reference to him, just to tempt them is cute, lol.

You know, I would much rather see Zero get his updated appearance from the Mega Man Zero games as a costume, instead of a Megaman suit. It doesn't even fit the character, seeing as Mega Man himself rarely ever used a melee weapon.

Instead of what they should do, Capcom is only attempting to lazily placate fans that were not happy with the cancellation of any and all currently-made Mega Man titles for little, if any reason.

@Sift While I won't deny that people are quick to complain about things they don't have. I find it hard to believe that anyone would say "You know why I'm pissed? Because the alternate costume for this fighter ISN'T a different character!" No one, excepting Capcom apparently, was even taking the first steps down this path of thinking. Fans can only get angry if you actually DO something, they can only be disappointed if you don't.

Who cares? Mega Man X is a lame Mega Man clone, and a rather annoying one at that, with with all his crying about how fighting (even for justice) is wrong and immoral. Zero and the original Mega Man are ten times better.

@Ericss Even though I'm a huge fan of the X series, I can empathize with that argument. For the most of the early games, X essentially a silent protagonist. The thought was probably to let the player cast their own character and personality on him. As such, it's was easy to latch onto Zero as the "cool" robot with the never-say-die attitude, the one you wanted to be someday.

As the series went on and the plot became exponentially more indecipherable (which was the real mistake), I guess the need came up to give X a personality, and it was the wrong personality. He doesn't want to fight, he wants peace in the world, and yet he'll zealously destroy countless robots and call them Mavericks to make it happen. It makes no sense.

The Zero games handled it better because X was in a mentor-adviser role and not directly involved with the fighting. That made a lot more sense.
