Torchlight 2 officially delayed, Runic prez suggests other games to play
34
Torchlight 2 has been officially delayed from this year until some point in the near future. Runic Games president Travis Baldree made the announcement today on the game's site, noting that the amount of development time the studio needs is "relatively small," but that it still wants to perform a small beta test before launch to ensure everything runs smoothly.
"We feel pretty safe in saying that if you enjoyed Torchlight at all, this sequel is superior in every respect," Baldree wrote. "Right now our job is to ensure that the quality level is consistent all the way to the end."
And then, as a brilliant distraction to stop us from crying, Baldree reminded us of the glut of goodness out there at the moment.
"Besides, you're all playing Skyrim right now anyway, aren't you? Or Battlefield 3? Or Uncharted 3? Or Saints Row 3? Or Arkham City? Or Skyward Sword? Or Minecraft? Or Modern Warfare 3? Or Dark Souls? Or Assassin's Creed Revelations?"
You're right, Travis! No rush. It'll take us until this time next year to make our way through everything you just mentioned anyway.

Can you ragequit a website? Because I think that's what I did when I saw this headline.

Why yes, I am indeed currently engaged in one or more of those titles on that list. In fact, I set up a spreadsheet with my backlog, and I'm behind by over a hundred games (that's just including the games I own, but have not started/finished). I think Torchlight 2 can come out any time it pleases.

What a brilliant site. I'll sign up for it tomorrow.
Wait... dammit.

@Cleric Oh so that's how it works? If two games from the same genre come out within the same 365 day timeframe it's a stupid idea?

Diablo 3 doesn't even have a release date. It's a sure bet that it's coming out in 2012, but we are talking about Blizzard. They will release it when its done. Either way, Runic Games will release TL2 well in advance of D3.

I still have games in the plastic shrinkwrap. Not much time at all with personal and family commitments.

Is it a bad sign that not only am I not playing any of those, I have no desire to play any of them either?

It's not a bad sign. It's a sign that you should stop gaming all together.

Runic just blew it, bigtime.
If they were hoping for a huge release, their only chance was to ride the coattails of anticipation for Diablo ]I[.
If TL2 isn't on the digital shelves by the time D3 has a confirmed release date, a large chunk of potential revenue will have just evaporated.

Would agree with you but Diablo 3 doesnt even have a release date yet and knowing Blizzard, its done when its done, so am not too worried about them being over shadowed by Diablo 3 at all
might be the same type of game but i think TL2 will do just fine

I will buy TL2 whenever it comes out. At $20 it will be a steal and I am sure it will go on sale a little after lauch too like the first one. I have D3 on preorder too and don't really care which ones comes out first.
On another note; I love and hate Skyrim. I slayed my second dragon, but it was a pain in the ass. I bascially had to wait for it to hover in mid air while I pelted it with puny arrows as my companion decided to take the scenic route around the mountain to finally join in when it only had a few HP left...

@Mopo Really? Having that much trouble with dragons?
I've killed no less than 5 already solo, no companion, and I'm a thief. Just wait for it to drop, smash it up, health potion as often as you can, dead dragon.
Only took me a day to get to lvl 15... so I suppose I'm just that kind of gamer.

I really hope for them they get it out before Diablo III's release date is announced (assuming that isn't December 2012).

I will allow this, if for no other reason than for the extra time to kick another dragon's ass. Having said that, Torchlight 2 is still a day 1 purchase for me. God help us all.

Not good news, but not unexpected, either. I know for a fact that I will be buying TL2 no matter when it comes out, though.
Ah well, more time to play Torchlight and Diablo 2.
