Video: Mass Effect 3 'N7 Collector's Edition' packed with bonus character, robotic canine
67
Not even BioWare's skilled scribes can insulate the Mass Effect universe from inappropriate procrastination. No matter the perils faced by the galaxy (in this case, it's about to be razed and strip-mined by a race of scary-voice sentient machines), players are likely to steer their avatars away from pressing matters in order to feed a kitty or buy some capsule toys. With that inevitability in mind, BioWare announced a while back that you can get a robotic doggy for your ship in Mass Effect 3. Now you can see it in the trailer above, snatched from Gamestop's website.
The artificial pet -- which you can probably pet, artificially -- is one of several cool bonuses included with the N7 Collector's Edition, and just one of a few you can play with when you're busy not saving civilizations from imminent eradication. The special package includes an N7 hoodie for Commander Shepard, alternate outfits for some of his squad, a Normandy avatar prop for Xbox Live, a fabric N7 patch, a 70-page art book, a fancy metal case, a digital soundtrack (by Clint Mansell), a lithographic print ...
Oh, and there's some important stuff too! The $80 admission fee nets you extra firepower, a currently "classified" bonus character, and a downloadable mission. Probably something about saving the world and whatnot.

Paying extra, to get extra characters is BS.
I shouldn't have to pay extra for that kind of stuff.

And they don't have to spend the extra time and resources to make them.
If you think that there's not already going to be enough content in ME3 to justify the standard $60 price tag, u mad.

Unless he actually wanted the CE. If so, week one or forget it, based on every other BioWare CE I've ever seen.

Yeah, Mass Effect 2 is one of my favorite games. I am going for the collector's edition this time as well.

Highly doubt it. You can pick up ME2 for $20 new anywhere and they discount the DLC all the time so I don't think they'll do it. It might become a platinum hit though...

Having to suffer to load times going back and forth just to feed the fish? Screw that. I stopped buying them in my subsequent plays except the times I let Kelly feed them.

Color my impressed and pleasantly surprised that there's no multiplayer content in there, as is the norm for so many of these editions.

I think I'll pass on this one. I like supplemental material that talks about the development, of which Mass Effect 1's CE was brilliant and ME2's not so much. This looks like it's all in-game enhancements, and while that's neat, it's just not my bag.

I'm just the opposite. I'll leaf through the concept art books for a minute or watch a documentary once but then it goes right back on the shelf (see: ME2, Dead Space 2, Halo 2/3/Reach, et al.) It's the in-game extras help to mix up the...i don't wanna say 'monotony,' but when you are playing the same character(s) for 40 hours or so, it's nice to have something different to look at.
Also, when a BioWare game says "Limited Edition" on it, they are not kidding. After Day-1, they become exponentially harder to find...which is why I'm going to pre-order this ASAP.

Yeah, I wish they would've bundled the Normandy model with the N7 Collector's Edition and dub it the Spectre Edition. I'm still pissed I put off pre-ordering the Normandy model when I had the chance...
Shepard's Tags that Liara recovered would've been a cooler addition instead of an N7 fabric patch.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but wasn't all of this already known about months ago? I certainly remember reading about all of these things on this site before... "secret" character and robot mutt included.

No, you're right! But since it was six months ago and the video highlighted all the content, I thought we'd bring it up in more detail.

I already preordered one collectors edition, I might just get another... I mean for crying out loud I couldn't find the collectors edition of 1 or 2 for a reasonable price anywhere!

I'm honestly confused here. Why is this news? Wasn't all of this confirmed months ago? I remember because the second I read about all of these extras (on here) I ran to my local GameStop and preordered. I know this was a long time ago because my local GS has been closed for months...

@Timjoy There are still no plans for it to be on Steam, thanks to EA's Origin service which will rob you in your sleep.

Unless the dog is named "K-9" and you get an extra character who solves problems through wit and the enigmatic use of jellybabies and scarves then this is all just noise and unrealized potential.
Jellybaby?

got excited when it said an N7 hoodie, but then i realized it was for commander shepard, and not for me. why would a space hero wear a hoodie in space?

I think I would have preferred a metal tin of the N7 logo and the Normandy in space or something similar versus Male and Fem Sheppard... just because that's its not MY Commander Sheppard....
Whatever. Preordered and paid for!

They probably just didn't want to make it too similar to the ME2 tin, which had the ripped N7 armor on it.

Please GOD LET THE BONUS CHARACTER BE ZAEED MASSANI!

This is the version I'm getting. ME1 was free from a sweepstakes, and ME2 was $15 since I put off buying it due to sucking at ME1 so much at first. I figure $80 for ME3 puts the average cost at $32 per game which makes them all huge bargains based on the fun...
