The console commands are why I got it on PC instead of console. Ironic.

console commands? seriously?

wait a second, that is kinda smart. console commands helped me fix 2 ingame bugs (one questbreaking).
but i would still go for Mod support in the first place. Deathstar Moon!

That and the mods.

But console commands have saved my bacon during bugs. TCL has saved my butt 3 or 4 times when I've fallen through the earth or clip into a rock.

If we ever get this kind of functionality on the 360 version, we should call them "PC commands". For clarity.

Ignoring the humor there, just so other people won't ask, it's called "console" for a different reason.

It falls under the "central command point for a mechnical, electric, or electronic system" definition.

For the benefit of the people who wouldn't get it.

I expected to see a comment about "Why the hell is it called a console command if it's for the computer?" when I clicked on this story. I was trying to head it off.

Well, Bethesda did claim that Creation wasn't Gamebryo, so I can understand people not experimenting, assuming all the console commands wouldn't be the same.

Almost every game on PC you can access the console commands. Why is this news I don't even know....?

It is a pretty neat little thing. Gives us the freedom to do what we want!! instead of being locked down to some specific settings we don't control.

The entire Quake series, the Half-Life 2 series and all games running on the same engine (TF2 requires you to enable "Dev Console" in the options.) The Unreal series, several other minor games, and some others.

Consoles are used my developers when making their games. Most of the time, they are left unlocked for PC gamers to use as well.

I hadn't finished my reply because this stupid commenting system has blocked me from posting the rest about 15 times now.

My reply boiled down to this.

Console gamers aren't usually aware of them, because they are usually removed, never had one, or simply can't be activated.

Yes, most games are made with one, but not all. And unless the developer specifically leaves them in, they can't be accessed.

Ok, so now that I have broken my comment into 4 different replies, I have found it seems Joystiq's commenting system is having a problem with me saying a particular game and the console, and what happened with it.

Seriously, Joystiq, why the hell can't a particular game's name, and anything about console related to it?

Let's play pictures, if it won't let me say them.

This is the game (I think.)

http://media.moddb.com/images/downloads/1/11/10887/UT3_logo2.jpg

This is what you had to plug in.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f0/ACNOR_keyboard.jpg/400px-ACNOR_keyboard.jpg

And they had to patch it out.

@xiLeShadow Only if most of the games you play are ones with the consoles left in.

I have a number of PC games that don't have any kind of console access.

Consoles aren't always used by developers when making games, not by a longshot. You mean to tell me you think Mario games are built with a console in them, instead of just using a dev created world editor?* It'd be a wise practice if more did, but most devs use their own methods of calling up debug commands, not a console.

* Don't think editor like you'd see for fan content, sometimes they're super primitive, like building levels in spreadsheets.

Um....I thought it was common knowledge that all Bethesda games are much more free-like on PC. That is a reason why so many of us PC gamers have a love these games.

Because they are soooooooo easy to mod and are very mod-friendly.

Easy to mod and mod-friendly mean the same thing >.>...double say.

but yea, if you have a PC-capable to run a Bethesda game (which isn't much really), you should always try to get for PC.

Now I understand, wanting to be with your friends and such, but it is a single-player game and you will be missing out on so much.

@Anarqi I believe any console command does, yeah. I haven't tried it but I read that even changing the FOV leads to disabled achievements.

I think it does if you use it for things like god mode or the like, but not if you are using it to unstick from a mountain or change fov or some such.

I changed my fov and that is all I have done, and I am still getting cheevos like normal.

I'm not so sure about that. I had to use a console command to get past a broken quest in the mage guild yet I still managed to get the achievement for completing the mage guild questline later on.

@obagelista It depends on the console commands, but it's not a permanent disabling. The purely cosmetic stuff won't affect it, god mode will, etc.

This is one of the reasons I love Bethesda... they leave console access on by default, and they fully support the modding community. I sank a hundred hours into Oblivion on console and almost did it again when I got a PC that could handle it and discovered the mods.

Really? I can't think of a FP game I've played in the last few years on the PC that doesn't have console access.

It's not new or special. People were doing this over a decade ago.

I hate the stupid Joystiq commenting system which filters out normal posts. I have tried almost TEN times to finish a comment above, but it keeps getting blocked. It has no cursing, no links, no derogatory statements, just a normal comment, but the comment system is blocking it, because apparantly it's triggering the filtering system. You need to ease that filter up. Spammers get by, but normal comments get blocked.

Ive been running around exploring sporadically and ignoring quests for the most part but I feel like Ive been getting overly generous loot. I am only several hours in but so far I feel overpowered (playing a high elf).
And also I have unintentionally come across parts of the main storyline which I feel shouldn't be accessible so early.

Other than those gripes, I love Skyrim and am enjoying it much more than Oblivion.
