World of Warcraft offers new in-game item, new TV spot for seventh anniversary

World of Warcraft is about to celebrate its seventh anniversary on November 23 next week (which means that some of its players have been alive for less time than the game's servers have been up), and to celebrate, Blizzard is giving everyone who logs in between this Sunday and December 3 a Feat of Strength achievement (which means it's only available during this time) and a "celebration package" item. The item will fire off a virtual fireworks display, and gives players a spiffy new tabard, as well as a 7% experience point and reputation bonus when used.

The company will also introduce a brand new "What's your game?" celebrity TV commercial this weekend during the Bears/Chargers game on CBS. The star of the new commercial is set to be a surprise, so you can start guessing right now in the comments below. We have no idea who it might be, but considering all of the stars so far (William Shatner, Mr. T, Ozzy Osbourne, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Verne Troyer), a girl might be nice?

WoW is terrible now too, but you know.

Sick of hearing the SWTOR fanboys, I don't understand how anyone can play that game and like it....whole thing was based around story and the dialogue is HORRIBLE. Pointless really. Only reason people defend it is because of BioWare and Star Wars.

95% of people who ramble on about Swotor have only YouTube videos to base their hopes and trolling comments on. Like millions of adults who have played MMOS since WoW was a fart in a developers seat, pictures and videos can impress but it has yet to be put thru the ringer. Bugs, user friendly interface etc. Swotor has a hill to climb, they know it. Internet twats need to stop confusing a single player and dated console RPG with an MMO, 2 different monsters.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't care either. What I'm basically saying is just that I think TOR is going to be a great new addition to the MMORPG genre and with it's arrival will leave WoW with a battle scar or two.

I think they appeal to different people really, sure they are both online mmo rpg's but from what I've seen of TOR the quest structure looks similar to mass effect and you can't really play it for like 20-30 mins where as in wow you can spend literally 10 minutes in it and accomplish something, this may turn a lot of people off it.

@Colorfuljosh You can't get much done in WoW that only takes ten minutes, auctions maybe, but if your doing that your already bored of the game. WoW is a very time consuming game, even people that do nothing in the game 90% of the time stay logged on.

A game like Diablo is one you could play for 10 minutes, and mmo isn't.

no that isn't true at all.. not sure when the last time you played wow was, I still play it now and I assure you , you can accomplish at least SOMETHING in ten minutes , which I don't see happening in TOR but it would be cool if you could

@Farseye Hate to break it to you, but if you dislike WoW you are gonna hate ToR. They are pretty much the same game with different settings. Those thinking its going to be some hardcore raiders game are so sorely mistaken.

Wow is 7 years old. Has someone who has been playing on and off the last seven yrs. I feel like reinstating my account just to get my special package . I mean who doesn't want firework.

@Xemplar IMO it's a Feat of Strength achievement every day you log in at this point.

@Xemplar It always has been. They put achievements that you can't ever get again under that, so the other categories are separated. Old achievements, CE pets, etc. FoS category.:) All the WoW Anniversary achievements are under that.:D As well as the Olympic games pet I think.

I would say think along the lines of some hot young actress for the spot.

Good ol' WoW is still boring though.

6th Year anniversary + No competition = Nothing.

7th Year anniversary + Competition = Reward.

8th Year anniversary = watch?v=ZYoUGkQJI64

Thanks for pointing out the obvious, I just figured after Blizzard 6th year excuse, we wouldn't see anything until 8 or 10 year anniversary. What makes 7th different then 6th? 1 year? Less subs? Oh and whats this? SWTOR?

I had my fun in WoW..then the end of Wrath and the beginning of Cataclysm came creeping it's head around the corner. Glad I got out when I did.

I haven't been able to play on a regular basis in almost five years (... holy shit), so I look forward to eventually being able to play the game again. I'm curious if you can nab this achievement with a free account.

Not to crash the party but I'm pretty sure it only applies to some type of paid account. Whether it be payed by in store game cards or credit. Don't quote me on it but I'd have just assume so.

lol WoW they are losing so many subscribers now its funny well when you go back on your word of making the game hard and what not but what really what happen was troll dungeon rehash and easy epics massive nerfs to old raiding bot/bwd. after seeing that WoW only way to come back from its consist downfall is to go free to play. some people may be rooting for old republic whos combat is about the same as most mmo and subscriber fee everymonth eh not a game for me liked old republic 1 an 2 but going mmo and pay every month is not my style anymore. and we got GW2 Loved gw1 and all of its standalones and its expac I like that they gonna move away from normal mmo and have a more action base combat and its still gonna be buy once never pay again.

I don't get why people focus on WoW losing subscribers. It's inevitable, not some occurance that's random. Sad part for trolls is that even with the losses it still remains the worlds most subscribed to MMO. The WoW trolling is so wotlk...

@MassiveGG As has Rift, etc. Economy is forcing a lot of people to quit MMOs in general, meaning the market for subscribers and a paid model is dying in general. TOR made a huge mistake on that front.

I can't wait for the 6 months later on this crowd. The MMO hoppers NEVER disappoint, they always end up right back on WoW.

Personally, my gameplan is WoW, and GW2. GW2 got picked since it's F2P, which, FINALLY. And a lot of the gameplay features ain't too shabby.:)

Personally looking forward to the commercial, I hope the tabard is permanent in effect. :D

Well said. I'll start off by saying i'm no WoW fanatic or Blizzard defender but the trolling is hilarious ALL over the internet. I've played many MMOs and WoW just stuck on me years back. I take breaks like anyone can/ should, and EVEN IN GAME people rant for whatever reason and go to, Warhammer, Rift, Aeon, etc etc. only to pop back on WoW where their "friends" still are and start playing again.

I always tease the returns. If you have to quit, then quit, but from the Official WoW forums to ANY other website that mentions it, people CREATE accounts to blabbler some shit that HASNT yet affected the game overall.

Word to Blizzard... Stick a fork in WoW, its been done since Cata cam out, its now burning.
