I almost think Kojima shouldn't have anything to do with MGS5. It would be nice to see some new school producer/designer take the helm so long as he/she doesn't have an ego.

I agree. It works for Nintendo, with Miyamoto having stepped into more of an advisory role in the development of Mario and Zelda, among others. I'd like to see Kojima tackle what he wants to work on, while lending a hand to bright up-and-comers working on MGS and other properties.

I would be fine with that approach, so long as it isn't an obscenely drastic change, a la DmC:DEVIL MAY CRY. It might work out for that game since they could throw the whole "alternate reality" angle on the plot. However, for MGS5, since it's the fifth in the numbered series -- I can't endorse the idea at the moment.

that actually sounds like the worst idea ever.

How about we see how Rising turns out, if it fails, then you have your answer on why a new team would be a bad idea. If it turns out good, and he puts a new team to work on MGS5 i'll prob have to move on from the series.

Kojima made MGS what it is, nanotech and all.

@foxhound
Im with fox hound, DMC just isnt the same to me anymore, And i love(d) the DMC series, i wouldn't say it was a change for the worst but it doesnt make it any better to me either, so there was just...change...Which left a bad taste in my mouth, I wouldn't want to see the same/similar thing happen with MGS.

Another game that took a "change" was Resident Evil, although im not certain there was a change to producer or whatever, its no longer (to me anyways) a survival horror, but more of an action game with a bunch of schizophrenic enemies (no diss to the story line)

When MGS5 comes out, If it comes out, I want to feel at home

I don't think that's such a good idea. I think the reason MGS games are so loved is because of their Kojima-ness. MGS4 is my favorite game on PS3 but I feel like if you were to take away ridiculous story and characters, you'd be left with a pretty mediocre stealth-action game.

So... was this a translation error?

I mean, I'm glad that a MGS5 could/should happen eventually, but I'm content if they leave it at MGS4 and simply continue the METAL GEAR saga via other characters. For instance:

» Revolver Ocelot's exploits from 1971(Soviet Interaction and Pentagon intrusion to 1999(FOXHOUND @ Shadow Moses). It could be a mercenary romp.
» FOXHOUND FireTeam-based game, using either MGS1 Liquid Snake's crew or MGS4 Meryl's FOXHOUND squads in a GHOST RECON style shooter.
» MG AC!D³ for the VITA? Or at least port the first two PSP games to PSN/PS3/VITA.

Number one on my Metal Gear wish list is still Metal Gear / Metal Gear 2 / Ghost Babel style 2D-HD XBLA/PSN game.

I'd welcome those too, but I think he's afraid to redo METAL GEAR and METAL GEAR2, because they retroactively changed the continuity(retcon) too damn much. The script for the two games would have to be rewritten and updated on numerous facets. But I could see a BAD BOYS2-style minefield fight with Gray Fox being pretty epic.

GHOST BABEL should be added to the 3DS store too, maybe as a pre-order bonus for MGS3D.

Kojima's priority needs to be ZOE3. Allow him to devote as much effort to ZOE3 as he did to MGS games in the past.

Maybe I'll have to get around to playing it at some point, too. I don't know when. As far as my involvement with it, I don't know. Maybe I can just play one stage!

Thankfully, Kojima stayed with Konami, and didn't leave to piss away his legacy elsewhere.

I don't mind another Metal Gear game so long as Kojima is content with having his team tackle it alone. MGS is his baby & I know he wouldn't want to just give it away like that (Which is why I think he made Peace Walker). But like someone stated above, it'll all depend on how Rising does when it releases.

Its time to make a new game with new characters and a new story, where no prior knowledge is needed. MGS2 is one of my favorite games ever. MGS4's story was a complete train wreck. Don't get me wrong for the most part the gameplay was still fun and the boss fights maybe the best ever in any game, but the cutscenes were, for me, painful to watch. I wanted to skip them but, they were so bloated with repetitive dialog, ridiculous characters, slow motion, and characters posing, I had to watch. It was painful but I had to see just how inept a person could be with basic film making and story telling concepts.

Kojima is suffering from George Lucas syndrome he is surrounded by people who are afraid to criticizes him in any way. He has lost touch with a wide audience because he is catering to his most hard-core fan base. Game-critics will not give his work a fair critique for fear of retaliation from that fan base.

If you do not have the storyline planned out for every game you intend to make in a franchise, you should only make one game. By later sequels there are so many unresolved plot points and inconsistencies it becomes impossible to create a simple logical narrative. If you want to maintain the benefits associated with an established franchise, just use the same name a give us a fresh story. I hope that happens with Rising but I don't expect it to. Uncharted waters are rarely traveled.

I can probably trust Konami to pick a new Team Kojima director. I'd even appreciate a rebirth of Metal Gear mechanics moving away from MGS stealth. The current system of stealth + combat tends to heavily support lethal gameplay (which I like in other games) over traditionally stealthly gameplay (which I play MGS for).

There's a lot of guns to choose from which makes combat nicely varied, but there's usually a clear best-way to stealth (one-shot tranq-guns and slow LoS gameplay). Changing these core mechanics should make the whole game feel new.

Create an active, sprawling battlefield which tests the player. Understand how games can blend stealth and combat elements. Put the story into the game mechanics to dilute heavy narratives. Make Metal Gear a truely interactive, persistent affair which players are compelled to experience.
