I think so too.. hes also does alot more cheap moves. He did his finger point lazer move where he says "die" 8 times in a row on me. It was the most annoying thing ever... But he def was alot easier in vanilla.

@Tinkus As a huge fan of fighting games ranging from SF, KOF, CvsSNK2, Jojo's Bizarre Adv, Guilty Gear, DoA, Soul Calibur, to Blazblue and a crapload more, Smash Bros Melee is by far one of the most technical fighting games out there. Yeah it might be different but the core mechanics are there...this only goes for Melee though.

Zero's alt costume causes him to look like X when Zero died and X took Zero's sword and used it; since Zero's still going to have the same moveset with it on.

And it's going to be DLC.

Here's where one thinks about how since they already have the model done up, have the skin done up for it, and one thinks about how they already have a moveset with buster, they could just... Y'know... Change the character to feel like Megaman. God knows they've just copy pasted movesets from one character to another before, and edited small things.

It's not clear what they're gonna do with it honestly, they could just give the costume X's voice actor and it would be fine.

It's also possible that Megaman is the one character they're going to bring back via DLC and that's what that poster is insinuating. The Megaman X trolling though was harsh. Imo the alt costume for Zero is not what should have been done but then again idk what alt costume you coudl have for Zero so maybe it's legitimate. It would have just been nice to see X fully developed in a fighting game but theres always MVC4. But yeah I mean I wouldnt get my hopes up but there's still a chance you could see the original Blue Bomber or one of his other iterations as a DLC char.

You're probably the only person who likes the HUD.
It's horrible. Despite all the outcry from the early builds and the "we'll tweak it based on feedback" comment from Capcom...they really didn't tweak it all that much. Putting A1 on the bottom instead of the top is stupid. The giant Dos Equis X's could have been reduced by a good 10-15% and still would have been more than big enough. The lifebars of tagged out partners are still fairly small and hard to see how much health they actually have.

The game itself is a solid gem though. Despite paying extra for the SE of vanilla and really ripping on the idea of Ultimate coming out 9 months after vanilla....I'm glad I got it. Definitely worth more than $40 for the enhancements to online play if nothing else. (I've spent over 20hrs on Live with vanilla....it's definitely worth it to me.)

The new characters, honestly I haven't played with many of them but Nemesis is a truck (and a giant hitbox, but I digress) and Hawkeye is awesome; his BnB's are fairly simple and do a lot of damage for only needing 1 meter. PW is a fun character to play with and has one of the best/most invincible assists (Pressing the Witness) in the game once you've changed over to Turnabout mode.

Look at it this way.....you'd spend $5 on each character as DLC if you owned vanilla and they actually offered the DLC. You're paying $40 for Ultimate when the DLC for the characters alone would be $60 if you bought them all. You'd also still be missing the better online (even if they released spectator mode for vanilla as a free update). They could release spectator mode and the balances/tweaks to the roster and X-Factor as free updates but you'd still be missing the better online play features (namely the menu tweaks and the matchmaking).

If you loved vanilla like I did, Ultimate is easily worth the asking price.

And I'd agree with you as well on that note :)

Functionality it's a bust, but yeah it definitely looks nicer than the vanilla HUD. Then again I didn't mind the vanilla HUD at all...I haven't really been screwed (much) by the "A2 on top, A1 on bottom" of Ultimate because I knew before my copy arrived that the game was like that....so I'm somewhat used to it. I definitely like that they added more color to it, and it does feel more "new MvC" than the basic one in vanilla.

There's still a couple brain-dead decisions ("let's buff the best character in the game!") but this game so far feels leagues ahead of the last one. Somebody likened it to Super Turbo, which feels pretty accurate; if you make a mistake, you're dead. If you make a really bad mistake like I always do, two characters are dead.

Before, some characters just didn't do enough damage and got left behind Zero, Wesker, Dante etc. Now it feels more like anybody can bust out a 100% combo with a little help from their friends. I've even been blown up by Hsien-Ko, who used to be pretty garbage. X-Factor is still strong, but not *as* derptastic as before. Assists lost their invincibility, so you can't just hammer the assist button to save yourself (like I used to do :p). There's still time for the game to go wrong, really wrong, but in the meantime I'm happy with the package.

Just some simple math

Jill and Shuma were 5 bucks each, 12 x 5 = 60, so you're already saving 20 dollars with this, and that doesn't include new stages, new color swaps, spectator, heroes and heralds when that comes out (for free), balances to the game, new game mechanics (air x-factor) and retooled controls.

Just some food for thought before some idiot begins crying about nickle and diming.

Just some simpler math

The game had 36 characters at $60, 60/36= $1.67 per character. And that doesn't include all the stages, color swaps, story, gallary, and boss battle.
The addition is 14 characters 12+2, at 1.67, thats $23.4 worth of DLC being sold for $40.

Capcorn is fleecing you for over $16.

Just some food for thought before some idiot begins crying about crummy business practices.

You know, Capcorn keep this up with 1%ers cheering....you can expect SFxTekken to demand an online pass.

Ok, how about this... I bought MvC3 for $60. Capcorn release this DLC pack for $40, only I cant buy the 3 characters I want, I have to buy the whole pack.

Oh, and my strawman beats your ironman, this isn't DLC.

A DLC repackage is what Little Big Planet 2 is doing, adding a large bundle and reselling the game with the DLC for $40. Buuuuuuut, as an ownier of the basic version of LBP2, all the new players with the DLC can play online with the original purchasers. THAT DLC.

What Capcorn are doing are giving all the original purchasers an ultimatum to pay that extra $40 or stare at a searching for players screen for hours.

You'll come around, Capcorn will go bankrupt after asking everyone for $10 annual online pass for each game...you know, to discourage used sales.

"What Capcorn are doing are giving all the original purchasers an ultimatum to pay that extra $40 or stare at a searching for players screen for hours."

Ultimatum? Wrong.
An ultimatum would be shutting off vanilla players from playing online anymore.

When Ultimate was announced, I had the same viewpoint as you. Then I realized I spent over 40hrs offline and 20hrs online in vanilla and I realized that I got my money's worth (and then some). I wasn't going to excuse myself from the Marvel party, with 12 new characters. I waited over 10 years for a sequel to MvC2, I wasn't going to balk in the end to getting a better juiced up version to vanilla for $40.

As I said earlier, the online additions are reason enough for me to buy Ultimate. Being able to reject opponents based on their bandwidth. Easily telling if a person is a disconnector or not (ie the medal vs a skull). Spectator mode.

On top of that, you're getting the characters, the stages, the buffs and nerfs, the XF tweaks, and the Heroes/Heralds mode.

Eh, vote with your wallet. But if you're a fan of vanilla, you're missing out man.

Dude, I respoct your POV. But I do have mine, and as many (I can't confirm a majority, but am sure many) others feel that the reissue was too soon.

If this was actual DLC, you would find complainers but a lot less. The reason I am pissed off is that I too waited 10 years. Bought a game day one for $60. And as a busy older gamer, only have weekends to play.

It is an ultimatum, how many players were left in VSF4 after Super was released?
Its the fear of being left out that made hoards run to buy the reissue of SF4. I don't mind the new game, just would have been better to either iron them out over 12 months, or at least offer fans a DLC pack for $20 (total game would be $80)...and you know they would have easily done that. And you know why they didn't too.

In the end you and I show different opinions about a genre and game we cared enough to buy and invest time in. I just feel cheated based on the industry norms. Norms which are sure to change if this behaviour is tolerated from Capcorn.

Oh I DEFINITELY feel the reissue was too soon, and I DEFINITELY felt like Capcom treated anyone who bought vanilla as a beta tester.

I just looked at it (using the MvC2 argument in the end though).....I loved MvC2. LOVED. I was so unhappy with all the rumors of a sequel to MvC2 over the years, and I thought it'd never happen when Disney bought the Marvel license and then that God awful EA Marvel fighting game came out.

We all waited so long for a sequel to MvC2 that even in it's vanilla state, MvC3 is awesome. I think the last time I was this hyped for a fighting game was when they released CvS2 for the Xbox and I could finally play it online.

Again, I DEFINITELY think that the "9 months after vanilla" release on Ultimate is a total dick move on Capcom's part, but then I can also somewhat see (on the flipside) that maybe Marvel was pushing them on the license like Seth (Killian) said. Then again maybe he's just talking out of his ass because he's a Capcom "consultant" now, but I hope not.

I didn't buy the "tsunami" excuse as to why Ultimate wasn't DLC for vanilla either. I also don't buy the "Japanese players don't like DLC" argument either. If they're going to cite the re-release of SF4 -> SSF4 on disc only as an example, they can throw that out the window because AE is available as DLC and on disc. I *still* think Ultimate should have been available to vanilla owners as DLC, ESPECIALLY those (like me) who paid $10 extra for the Special Edition which is now....worthless. :( (though I still love the beautiful case)

I'm not happy with the direction Capcom took with this. Yeah, they do it all the time in the SF universe now....but I held out hope that on the Vs. side, they'd never do this. Now, they have. All I can hope for, from this point going forward, is that if they DO triple dip....and let's face it, a) it's Capcom, b) money talks, and c) it would still sell....well I hope THIS time maybe if they do pull a Super Ultimate MvC3 out of their asses, that they offer THIS ONE as DLC for the Ultimate owners. If it's an entire whole new disc only, "no upgrades" bunch of BS....then I'm out, and Capcom can suck it.

So here's a solution... buy it for $20. It won't be too long before you can get it used, or even on sale for new, for $20, then the character per $ ratio you quoted above would be a deal.

I was originally suspicious about Ultimate version too, but I have to say it has exceeded my expectations (except for the UI, the UI design is gawd-awful). So many characters in "vanilla" were total jank, and most of them have gotten a big enough boost in Ultimate to make them more competitive. I haven't tried online yet, but everything I've read, and just from playing locally, there really aren't very many "bad" fighters anymore. In fact, most people seem to think the only truly janky character anymore is Tron.

Time will tell exactly how balanced ultimate is, but it seems far, far better this time around. The way I see it, we didn't just get 12 new characters, we got boosts to characters that finally make them worth playing.

Oh, and Frank West is absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe how much they nailed it with Frank.

Practice against the computer for quite a while, because if you go online and make mistakes against someone who knows what they're doing, you're going to easily eat a 10+ hit combo and at least 1/3 of your character's life.

It's a fairly open game, the roster is much more balanced than it was in vanilla. Call it nerfing/buffing, call it damage increase or life decrease, IDK what it is but anyone can kill you in this game. It's not like MvC2 where if you didn't use top tier you had no chance, and it's not like vanilla where Team BFF (Akuma+Wolverine) + Wesker runs the show.

Just don't play Phoenix. =) Her health was nerfed even more and her air strategies have largely been removed. You can still win with her, moreso Dark Phoenix, but it's not as easy as it was. Some of the instant 'hit anywhere' supers new in Ultimate (like Dr. Strange's Spell of Ashanti and Hawkeye's Gimlit) completely destroy Phoenix's game now.

I could not get a handle of Street Fighter 4's extremely precise requirements for button presses and combos, but I figured out MVC3 pretty easily. It also has a beginner mode which, while it limits your combo potential a bit, makes special moves and combos easier to pull off, so it's a good place to start.

The most difficult part of the game for beginners, I think anyway, is just being able to figure out what the flying fling is happening, since the game is very flashy, hectic, and fast-paced. Once you get a feel for all the characters and know what to expect it gets a bit easier.

I refuse to support companies charging actual money for awesome new content. What jerks. If this exact same product came out in 2 years, I wouldn't mind, but because it has come out so quickly after the first game, seems like I'm being cheated in some way.

In fact, they should never have released the last game. They should have just waited 9 months and released the FULL game. I certainly wouldn't have complained AT ALL if they just delayed the release of a game I was looking forward to by 9 months. Even though I had hours of fun with the first game all of that fun is now entirely invalidated by Capcom releasing a new and improved version of the game!

MvC3 is not even a year old yet! It's a little insulting to see the enhanced version come out so soon. Is Capcom holding out on content on purpose? MvC3 was good, but in terms of content, it was pretty bare bones. I might get this, but tbh there's just so many other games coming out that UMvC3 will have to take a backseat. I can always play mvc3 if I ever feel the itch to play it :)

Considering that a lot of DLC characters for fighters are probably gonna be aiming around 5 bucks a pop, $40 for 12 characters is fine (that'd be 60 bucks at 5 per character.) I think the bigger issue is just rushing the game in the first place. Even when it came out there was unfinished data on the disk. So it becomes a matter of, should they have waited and added more from the get-go before releasing vanilla? The answer to that I suppose would be totally opinionated, whether you would want to wait another 9 months for the game to be released in the first place with more content and you only having to pay $60 ever or if you want the game 9 months earlier, and possibly pay twice for it.

It's not like Capcom has ever kept it a secret this is how they update their games. They've done it for ages. As far as any Capcom fans that didn't believe this is how it would get updated, they were being very stupid. I played the game at friends and stuff but never bought it myself until Ultimate came out. Far as I'm concerned, I got a solid fighter with a nice chunky roster for $40, no more.

Seth Killian actually discussed why it was rushed in greater detail and it's an area most gamers don't care about but it is a player in the world of this kind of gaming. Licensing issues made them have to make that release window and they had to rush to get it out of the gate. And yeah it sucks to hear it and most ppl don't care about it but from a company stand point it's a hurdle that had to be accounted for. My guess is that strong demand and acceptance lead to the license being extended.
