I would personally like to thank merrick97 for his tremendous advocacy of this egregious issue. Without him, this might not have happened.

Agreed. I've seen a lot of his posting over at GameFAQs, contacting Ubisoft and getting others to do the same.

And good on Ubisoft to do this. Ya it took a while, but at least they did it. Would love to see the same thing in BG&E HD.

So the retail one does not have it yet? I'll wait a bit then, there's a couple of other games I need to play.

People who play inverted have broken brains.

Much like left handed people.

Put your thumb on top of your head and pretend it's an analog stick. Which direction do you have to push your head to look at the floor? If you said 'down', you're the one with the broken brain.

Actually yes, I am pushing my thumb down, down towards the floor.

Your move.

You proved my point... i your head were an analog stick resting upon a controller, and you pushed it towards the floor, you would be pushing up on the analog stick that is your head.

Hope your next flight doesn't have someone who can't handle inverted controls or it will be very short.

His argument makes perfect sense. pushing forward would point your head down, and pulling back would look up.

It doesn't make sense to you because you aren't able to visualize your head as an analog stick. Let's reverse it... pretend you are looking at a controller, and instead of a right analog stick, there's a tiny little version of your own head. Now let's say your thumb is on top of your head, as it would be if you were playing Splinter Cell HD. You want to look down. Which way do you move your thumb to make your tiny head look at the floor? (HINT: The answer is 'up'.) If you can't visualize this, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, that's a great example pic. However, in my example, the analog stick is coming out of the top, crown part of the head, which I think makes it a little easier for people to grasp.

I wish people who bitched and moaned about how people who need inverted Y should shut up and adapt would just visualize the analogy first and realize that they are the ones doing it unnaturally. (Not that I would chastize anyone for this.)

The problem with that second analogy is that the tiny head stick could be looking "down" on the controller, which would mean that you pushing down would make it actually look down.

I get what you were trying to say, but yea, I was totally confused by those analogies as well...

The easiest way to picture it is this:

Look up. Does your head move backwards or forwards?

It's the natural movement for every being in the world.

Here here! Arkweld's last comment is the easiest example and makes the most sense. I was going cross-eyed trying to understand everyones' reasoning. I'm an inverted controls guy, and if someone calls me stupid and asks me why, I'll use arkweld's example. Muchos gracias.

that's a seriously flawed analogy. if you follow that logic, you would invert horizontal aiming as well.

"The easiest way to picture it is this:

neither. it rotates.

either way, if you're going to use the "head as a joystick" argument, you must invert horizontal aiming as well; otherwise the argument is invalid.

Some people play that way too.

Some brains are only wired to invert verticle, some are wired to invert both. Yes, I have seen people use inverted Y axis. Its crazy but its true.

@ReadingRambo

i don't buy that a given person's brain is "wired" so that they can only use a certain control style. i have one friend who played inverted y-axis for years, but forced himself to learn non-inverted so that people wouldn't have to change the option when swapping controllers. i also knew another guy who learned inverted legacy southpaw (inverted y-axis, legacy = left stick does forward/back and turning, right stick up/down look and strafing, southpaw = swap those sticks) in Halo just so that people wouldn't want to swap controllers with him.

anyway, it's not a big deal. there may not be any logical argument for only inverting y-axis, but if someone learned that way and doesn't want to make the effort to switch, i understand.

It's also worth thanking this site for going with merrick97's original complaint about the y axis debacle. If joystiq hadn't made it a news story, we'd still be twiddling our inverted thumbs silently, uselessly cursing Ubisoft.
