OC ReMix revisits the grand history of Zelda with a new tribute and remix album, "25YEARLEGEND." The project draws together 18 experienced indie musicians, including the producer of Minecraft's tunes to spelunk by. It's available as a free download here.
Even though Zelda's music has been remixed umpteen times in successive games, this buoyant compilation surprises with a few creative interpretations, and a good selection of the most sacred songs. We've placed two of our favorites after the break.
@Undulation I respectfully disagree. Every single one of OCR's albums holds a permanent place on my iPod, and other than a few select tracks, I love them all dearly.
@Undulation I get that feeling with most remixes..even ones done by the original artist themselves. Not a big fan of remixes at all lol. The bright green font they used on that site is also very terrible and painful to look at.
@Undulation I think a lot of the OCRemix albums don't work too well as albums. They vary way too much just in terms of genre. You don't put jazz, symphonic, and dubstep on one CD. They don't sound good together, even if they sound fine as individual songs. (Except dubstep.)
That said, I think the Sonic 3 & Knuckles album from some years back was pretty fantastic.
@Undulation OCRemix has over 200 different remixers on the site, and all genres of music are represented. Jazz, dubstep, rock, rap, orchestral, electronic, blues, dance, disco, folk music, even polka and doo-wop.
There are plenty of remixes I don't particularly enjoy, but I don't think that makes the site or their album releases poor. If you want the content tailor-made to your musical tastes, you can try contacting them and working out an expensive deal, but I find it easier to just keep what I like and pass on what I don't like.
Some OC remixes are just too much remixed, but they generally are pretty good, so this is very welcomed :D
Off-topic: I can't see my Joystiq profile, I tryed with Chrome and IE and all I get is a blank page. Someone knows how to fix this? Or it's happening to everyone?
I thought this was a fantastic album; however I've noticed an OCR trend to mainly dubstep-type remixes which makes my old OCR-browsing adolescent self cry.
It appears that Laura Shigihara did a track as well, who you'll know as the person who did all the music for Plants Vs Zombies. (Including the credits song).
Currently on "Last Dance of the Giants" I'm loving every minute of this album. Definitely worth downloading, especially since they have the option to download the album in *.flac format. Convert that with lame -v2 and you've got *.mp3's that sound basically transparent but aren't bloated like cbr 320 kbps mp3's.
@bunnyraven WOW. Someone else on Joystiq that's an audiophile. I prefer v0 myself, but yeah. I wish all OCremix tracks were available in multiple formats. Their files are very lossy.
I'll stick with my Symphony album that came with Skyward Sword. That thing is a masterpiece.
