New Rock Band 3 bundles from Mad Catz include 5 free DLC songs
19
Rock Band 3 is still alive and kicking, despite everything happening behind-the-scenes, and in an effort to rekindle the world's love for rhythm games and plastic instruments, Mad Catz Interactive has released 5 new instrument bundles for the Xbox 360.
Each bundle includes the game, a DLC code for 5 different Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, and your choice of Fender Mustang Pro-Guitar ($150), normal Stratocaster controller($70), or normal Precision Bass controller ($80, available in three designer colors). Absent from these bundles, as you may have noticed, are the microphone and drum kit controllers known and loved by annoying college roommates the world over; a void the used market will undoubtably step in to fill.

@Osmium Yeah, plus 83 songs on the disc, plus additional 10 (?) Indie Tracks from Rock Band 2 that you can download for free + all the other free downloadable tracks available on the marketplace + all the songs you import from previous games. That not enough songs?

@def PD No new PS3 bundle, yes, but you can still buy the keyboard and game. Look around locally, try your favorite online game store, or worst case, through MadCatz: http://store.gameshark.com/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=323&numPerPage=50

Really hope they release a new drum bundle. I had to drive to 3 different gamestops, 2 future shops and a walmart before I finally found a replacement kit for the one I broke over the summer.

@Cat Herder They still sell the drums, though it looks like only in a bundle with the cymbals: http://store.gameshark.com/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=323&numPerPage=50

Yes, we PS3 owners don’t get a bundle. It sucks, and hey, it sucked when we didn’t get a RB3 + keyboard bundle when RB3 launched (rumors claimed MS interference). But you can still buy the game, a new keyboard, and even the RHCP songs separately, it’ll just cost a little more. If you really want to play the game, why let spite stop you?

Harmonix should have never gone into any sort of agreement with MadCatz only supporting 1 of the 3 platforms it was designed for. I kinda felt boned enough when the rock band network was designed only for the Xbox.
To top it off, it's being re-released without 3 of the 5 instruments it was designed for (drums, keys and mic)?
I was kind of looking forward to a new wave of people joining the rock band community, but I have spent way way too much on Rock Band for PS3 to make a switch at this point.

@Gratchet And HMX didn‘t have any choice with Rock Band Network. RBN relies on the platform owners—Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft—offering users a way to submit and sell content. Microsoft has XBLA; Nintendo and Sony do not support this. I will give Nintendo and Sony a little credit for allowing some RBN content to come over, even if in limited amounts.

Or you could, y’know, do a little more than regurgitate the press release and check the MadCatz store: http://store.gameshark.com/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=323&numPerPage=50 . There you’ll see that they still sell drums and microphones.
I _think_ the drums cost more than the old kit, but this bundle includes the cymbals and where else will you find them new? Also you don’t need the official Rock Band mic. Many USB mics will work; Harmonix just relabelled some model of Logitech mic.

I still can't comprehend why no one outside of DIY'ers has created and marketed a mesh-head drum kit. The technology already exists, it wouldn't be cost prohibitive, and it would sell like hotcakes.
