There's got to be a correlation between this and the demise of music playing genre.

It´s the novelty factor, sooner or later they are going to kill the hen of the golden eggs, just like they did with the guitar hero games or the rock band ones........ exploitation of a good franchise is something that this industry is know for.....

its not exploitation its just the way the market works. a fad to say the least. Anyways, some dancing games are fun. Meanwhile my drear RB drumset sits in the storage closet.

Wait till activision gets a hold of the genre. They'll gladly kill it, resurrect it and kill it again.

Call of Duty: Modern Dance-off is the new Treyarch project. They're trying to finish securing the Jersey Shore cast as unloackables but I think they'll end up as DLC.

What a dumb thing to say. I've been gaming since the beginning and it has never been better. That's not even my opinion, it's an objective fact. So not every game made supports the idea that your tastes are the summum bonum of human evolution. Grow up. Move on. We'll all be happier.

@A Sandwich You throwing fancy words does not support anything you have said. What you are saying is not fact at all, it IS opinion. Unless you can back your opinions up with facts, it will remain that way. I'm not saying everything is bad in the industry but this will further make developers believe its okay to put up easy, cheap games like this over deep and involving gaming experiences. Even so-called AAA games are becoming cookie cutter as well. I see hope down the road what with the indie game scene though.

There have been a ridiculous amount of non-cookie cutter AAA games this year, more than most people can afford and play. I doubt anybody considered canceling a game to produce Just Dance instead. But I get it- you're an indie game hipster. Go build your AAA indie dream game in Minecraft.

@(Unverified) Oh God, someone calling me a hipster. Figured that was going to happen. First, I hate Minecraft so you bringing that up is pointless. Just because I am a supporter of indie games I'm marked as a hipster right away. Yes, there are some good games that are AAA but sadly they will probably not sell as well as the bigger names because they don't get promoted well enough and are lost in the shuffle.

As for your second part, honestly I'm sure a company will probably forego developing a huge game if they can make a cheap, simple game that sells like hotcakes. It is a business after all and that is the problem. I know they are in it to make money, but eventually the more casual gamer will move on to something else and when you lose both the casual and hardcore crowd, you're dead, plain and simple.

@neojames82 Yes, because the industry outlook would be more promising with a slew of new Street Fighter sequels, each introducing a new character.

To all the naysayers to dance games, you have no idea what a party game is until you have a dance game and a lot of friends over.

Living off campus near my university (read: college for your Americans), having a Kinect and dance central has been a huge success for my roommates and I.

A few drinks here and there, a good mix of guys and girls, and kinect = fun no matter what kind of event your hosting. Dance Central 2 is the best thing to happen to our Kinect since Dance Central 1.

A very fun genre if played with the right group of people.

@BoBsS But the problem I have with it is, once there is no party, people don't play these games and they just collect dust until there is another party. And once you are done with university (yes I know what you meant and I am a Yank) you probably won't be playing the game that much. I don't mind party games, not at all, but you should not have to pay a full $60 for a game that is not going to get much use save when there is a party.

That's not true. You may not like music games but that doesn't mean you can't play them when there isn't a party. I have as much fun playing Everybody Dance and Singstar on my own as I do with friends. Everybody Dance just came out, but I've had a lot of replay value out of Singstar since it came out back in 2008. You can even go to the online communities for both games and see the performances from other people and I can assure you that half of them are solo players. I am certain that other franchises, such as Just Dance and Dance Central, have the same thing going on.

But I don't get the point you are trying to make. Is your issue what a dance game costs? Not all of them are $60 at launch, but even then I don't see your point. If you don't like them, or don't want to pay full price for a dance game, what's the problem? Just don't buy it and problem solved. It doesn't affect you as a player one bit whether a dance game is released at $40 or $60, or whether it is ideal for party or solo play (or both).

Dancing games will die when guys who play games get tired of ladies shaking their booties in front of the TV. Of course, that's assume that these guys actually know any ladies.

That's Just Dance. I assume it is the recently released Just Dance 3, but I haven't played the game to pinpoint the exact song, but I know the art style used in the game.

For reference, Dance Central is presented with full CG characters and environments, Just Dance with very colorful, cartoony graphics, and Everybody Dance with a more elegant, stylized live action presentation.
