Battlefield 3 sells through 8 million of 12 million total shipped

In the month of November, EA moved another 3 million copies of Battlefield 3. At least, that's according to numbers revealed yesterday by EA CFO Eric Brown at the Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco (as reported by Game Informer), which has the game selling 8 million units in total across all its platforms out of 12 million shipped.

As with most major game launches, both the shipped and sold amounts of the game have dropped significantly since launch, with two million being pushed to retail from EA in the month of November versus 10 million during the first week. The game's first big expansion -- "Back to Karkand" -- is set to be released some time in December, with PS3 owners getting a crack at it one week early.

Skyrim didn't beat MW3 sales records yet that game will get GOTY.
TF2 is free to play and it's beating MW3 on Steam with players online and it's been out for how many years?

Can't it be possible that people buy MW3 because..it's MW3 and they feel obligated? They somehow get glassy-eyed and roll over and buy it?

Can't it also be possible that the amount of MW3 players that are below the age of 15 is so staggering that we can come to the conclusion that they have terrible taste in games?

If you estimate that the COD fanbase mostly younger than 15 could it be that the BF3 fanbase is made up of a bunch of old geezers who whine about COD because their lazy eye and lack of fast reflexes ensures that they get their ass kicked every time they play COD. Therefore they need to play a game where the maps are so huge that run and gun game play is virtually non existent? Hey look honey!!! I can spawn kill people with a a TANK!!! Yeeeeehaaawww!!!!!

MW3 is also more critically acclaimed than BF3. So more sales + better reviews = overall better game. That's pretty simple math that I think we can all get behind. Are we done here? I think we are.

Funny thing is that despite having to deal with everyone moving over to MW3 and, according to this article, 8 million copies of BF3 being out and about, more people still played Black Ops more on Xbox Live. Personally, all the BF3 owners on my friends list have already moved on from BF3. It's rare that I see anyone playing that anymore.

I'm pretty sure the original commenter was just giving BF3 a pat on the back, because for games not in the Call of Duty family, 8 million sold is a great showing. Especially considering it pretty much went head to head with MW3. I hear the multiplayer is spectacular.

Or it could be that some people enjoy the game and you do not? I fail to see how someone liking a game that you do not like makes them have terrible taste in games. A lot of people like Call of Duty and it got a lot of critical acclaim also.

I guess I don't understand the hate that the franchise gets from a lot of gamers. Don't like it? Then don't buy it. But don't act like you have better taste in games because you are not a fan. The elitist attitude is childish.

@A Sandwich mw3 is a 88 on metacritic while bf3 is a 86. the user scores are hilarious though at a 2.9 for mw3 and a 7.5 for bf3 (ps3 users anyway)

What I find hilarious about the metacritic user score is that BF3 clearly has a smaller following than MW3 yet enough of them took time from their day to sabotage MW3's metacritic scores. Then, they seamlessly come to sites like this one and call the MW3 people, who could give a rats ass about BF3's metacritic score, childish and immature. The douchebaggery is astonishing.

Lol, i was actually serious. those are good sales #'s. Also, I'm 30 and never played a COD game for more than 5 minutes (Blackops, one time) and really hate the series.

I for one Like CoD2 and 4. I didn't like 3, hated World at War, and will never buy a Treyarch CoD after Black Ops. Modern Warefare 2 was ok when you were playing with people interested in winning and not epeen but was ultimately ruined for me by the people playing it. Elite doesn't bother me as long as MW3 gets atleast 4 map packs. If it doesn't, then it was a waste of money and no one should pay for it again. Atleast with Treyarch games you know there will be 5 map packs.. Infinity Ward though, not so much.

And of course these figures will be cited simultaneously as why Battlefield is better and worse than Call of Duty. I predict 70 comments. :)

As am I. I'm a CoD player, but I'm very happy for BF. I wish everyone felt this way though. It kinda sucks trying to talk to some people in real life about games, and they immediately get all elitist on me like I hate everything that isn't CoD. Personal preference is a scary to thing to have in this generation.

It's a good game. I'm sure MW3 is good also. I'll see if I can get it on sale like I did with Black ops last year.

Yeah, I should have BF3 this weekend. I'll probably wait for a GotY edition of MW3.

Then again, chances are, by the time that comes out, I won't be all that interested in buying it.

@Troy Powers GOTY of MW3??? i'm pretty sure that if they ever release that version it's gonna cost around 60$, heck Black Ops and MW2 are still around 30$-40$.

@Troy Powers - There will likely be no GOTY edition of MW3. There hasn't been a GOTY edition of a CoD game since CoD4.

Best you might get is a version in six months or so that contains the first map pack like they did with Black Ops.

I'm intrigued by this game because of the Frostbite engine and destructive environments. Canada didn't get the discount on it for Black Friday that the U.S. did so I'll wait 'til boxing day. Too many great games this season.

That's nearly a half billion bucks in sales. I'm really happy how BF3 turned out. The hype was a bit much but in the end BF3 certainly delivered on the multiplayer part. Now if I could only stop playing Skyrim...

Final note. BOTH MW and BF are equally imbalanced when not playing friends.

BF: vehicles and players steamroll you non communicating team all over map. One man base caps with little or no assistance as he shimmys from spot to spot dominating an area solo.

MW: Each super soldier hits the respawn button as fast as they can and sprints to their doom at alarming rates. Lemmings use more discretion.
