@Shockwave Don't worry, people who steal video games always find some lame excuse to help them sleep at night.

@Shockwave

That article pissed me off...

Pirating such a great game, or any game, hurts these great developers so much.

Even the hot button games like MW3 and BF3 don't deserve to be pirated.

A year ago I didn't buy games. Not because I didn't have the money, not because I was too lazy to go out and buy it, but because my parents wouldn't let me. They didn't want me to spend my time playing video games. So unbeknownst to them, I pirated every game I wanted to play and alt tabbed whenever the need arised. However, I discovered prepaid visas soon thereafter and have since bought every single game which I liked or actually played through Steam, many of which I would NOT have bought had I not given them the chance through pirating. Nowadays, I occasionally pirate to see if the game runs well on my aging computer (GT230) and to give it a test run. Of course, being a steam user, I also make many impulse buys and just purchases in general. Anyways, moral of the story is

tl;dr Don't judge, you're not aware of everyone's situation. Also pirating is not always bad, it actually makes me (like many others) spend more money than I would without it.

Does anyone know if I can redeem any of those games on Steam? Or is there any way to tell and how does it work?

@NPTran23 If it's retail then chances are good the key will be compatible. (Unless it's an EA game.)

Dead Island for $20? Tempting at that price. I've already got or beaten all those other games.

@Faceless Troll I just bought this last week when it was $20 on Steam. It's fun. I haven't experienced many bugs that I guess plagued this thing when it launched so I think now is a good time to hop on the dead island bandwagon.

Certainly worth $20 bucks.

@Faceless Troll Yeah, if you've got the time to put into it, Dead Island is pretty darn fun.

Seems like every time I turn around, Metro 2033 is available somewhere for $5, give or take. I picked it up recently and still haven't played it. :(

@logicbus

I picked it up a year or two ago ... and still haven't played it. To be honest, I don't think I will.

@b3n

I want to play the existing Stalker games first. I also have all(?) three of them on Steam, and haven't started any.

Yes these hook into Steam.

I should note that several of these include a $5 certificate off a "best selling game of 2011" including BF3 or MW3.

If you were to actually use a coupon like that, that makes Metro 2033 FREE!

@thinkthis Actually I'm not sure these will work with steam. I wanted to jump on Witcher 2, but since it's digital and not retail I don't think it will jive.
There is a list of compatible games here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

@FestiveTragedy

Witcher 2 doesn't, but a lot of the other ones do, like Metro 2033, Dead Island, Deus Ex, etc.

Well hello Witcher 2 and Metro 2033, I didn't see you sitting there in the corner all by your lonesome. Let me take both of you home and show you a good time. It's time to ride the tricycle!

Wow, great price on Witcher. I'm not remotely a PC gamer though. Probably have to wait for the console version.

Between Deus Ex, The Witcher 2 and Dead Island there's like 120+ hours of gameplay for the price of one fully priced retail game.

I already played Deux Ex on 360 and I'm getting my fantasy lulz with Skyrim, so I'll just have to get Dead Island for now. Sorry Witcher 2 - I know you're good. Maybe some day.

I got Civ V Super Deluxe (Download version) on the Amazon for $16. Steam was having their sale and Amazon price-matched. I had me some Amazonian credits, so I cashed in. *Click heels. Drink booze*
