It's just the ones that people actually look forward to that are in a seemingly endless "production stage."

That's what I mean. I'm not that into multi player mods so all the awesome stuff I got goosebumps for in 2005-2007 never seemed to happen. :(
I was a lot younger and probably easier to please, but the half life 1 single player mods were pretty awesome, at least the top 10 or so were. I was disappointed when so many promising projects using source never were officially released.
