How well does the game run on that particular hardware configuration?

I wasn't asking about the origin servers; I did read that those run like shit for a lot of people.

I don't usually play my games on PC, that's why I'm asking with regards to this 40% off sale. Why all the downvotes? I have to make a quick assessment on whether to run with this or not, that's why I asked...

Best of both worlds...kind of like Blade the Vampire Hunter. ;)

Seriously though, I prefer the Mac OS, though there's those rare instances where I sometimes want to access windows at home. Like I said, I do my gaming almost exclusively on consoles.

People buy Macs to run Windows because it's easier than buying a non-Mac and running OSX on it. Sure it can be done, but it's a lot more difficult to do. To think that there isn't OSX exclusive software or Windows exclusive software is being delusional, and while you may not find a need for Mac exclusive software, anyone running FCP or any of the numerous other highly used Mac-centric industry standard software would beg to differ. One could just buy one of each, but it would defeat the purpose of being economical, which really is the main purpose of using Windows on Mac or OSX on a non-Mac.

In the end, I think a more fitting analogy to explain the reasoning is this:

If you really wanted oral sex, technically you can get it from a man or a woman, as both can deliver, but one option is easier to stomach than the other, depending on your sexual orientation, which is why one chooses one over the other.

I have a iMac 2010 quadcore 2.93 i7 with 8 gig of RAM and a Radeon 5750 and I can get ultra high settings on the SP. The MP however needs to run on normal and I have some serious texture problems with the grass. Why such a big difference? I don't know...

What really stitches you up though is that you can't use the proper ATI drivers, you need to use the Bootcamp drivers which haven't been updated since January 2010. So when you install BF3, it will ask you to update to the AMD drivers (11.11 or whatever) but they won't install (it just runs through the install cycle but doesn't actually install). So you just need to ignore that message and push on.

Also, using the magic mouse makes the game nigh unplayable with it since it's M2 button to aim then M1button to fire. You'll need a proper gaming mouse or the wireless 360 pad adaptor and use the 360 pad for it.

Goddamn, Origin is a piece of crap. Somebody try buying FIFA 12 for PC to confirm that I'm not crazy. It has one page for for all versions of the game but when you select PC Download from the list, nothing happens. The price doesn't even change.
It's not available on Steam either.

And so, I won't play it.

I don't care much for EA and 40% off isn't enough for me to overlook their incredible issues in regard to their PC games and the Origin platform itself. 75% off? That's a good way to get me to start going there. It's how Steam nabbed me and it's how Steam keeps me and encourages me to buy full priced games digitally there.

Also, I don't relish multiple platforms for PC digital distribution. There's room for two clients and Origin is quite likely to be that client. However, I'll fight them off for as long as I can in the meantime and I don't want other publishers thinking they can go a client route for DD content as well. Valve ought to update their DLC policies, though. One small battle to win the larger war. They're simple idiots thinking they can have it all their way.

People will cave to EA eventually. There's a reason why they're still in business despite their numerous issues.

Meh, that's all well and good. Except, BF3 is a really good game. I don't care that it was published by EA. I'm not going to deprive myself of the enjoyment of playing that game just to stand up to some big corporation.
It's like when people refused to buy SC2 because it had no LAN support as a sign of protest to Blizzard. All I can say is they missed out on a great game and made absolutely no difference in the world.

Fair warning to everyone who is thinking about this...

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/12/05/ea-origin-bans-update-edition/

If you misbehave at all on their forums (and in one user's case, do absolutely NOTHING), you may lose all of your games with no way to recover them. Yes, this includes single player games on Origin.

Read the last two paragraphs, a guy got banned because another user had posted his username and swore in that post.

He was only recently unbanned, but his story on Escapist documents how awful EA's support is and even violated the privacy policy in the process (random people calling in and getting details about his account).

And you can bet that the only reason he was un-banned was because of all the attention it got online.

Still others are locked out of their accounts and games.

@BoBsS It is getting boring, but just like Jon Stewarts jokes about Fox news... As long as you keep feeding them, they'll keep coming.

By which I mean when Origin doesn't suck and is one of the worst consumer storefronts ever, then the jokes will go away.

Meanwhile, gog.com has everything for 50% off, and you're not forced to give your money to a bunch of idiots who deserve a lynching rather then profits.

In other words, you're everything wrong with the industry if you buy something from Origin. While you're at it, why not buy $15 recycled map packs for CoD and support Ubisoft's DRM?
