Creep out other commuters: Kinectimals adds iOS to its mobile roster
16
With the recent launch of "My Xbox Live" on Apple's iOS platform, not to mention Halo Waypoint, Microsoft seems to have officially embraced the ubiquity of its competition's devices. And with today's release of Kinectimals for iOS (a port of the already released Windows Phone 7 version), that relationship is further solidified, but in a softer, furrier way.
Kinectimals for iOS puts you back on the adorably named island of "Lemuria," on which you raise virtual feline cubs. According to the game's iTunes description, it works on both iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch devices, and costs $2.99. Purchasing the game will also net you "five brand new cubs" for the Xbox 360 game (presumably of the feline variety), if you're in the market for some brand new animal cubs.
And for those asking, no, we're not exactly clear on how you get the "Cub Handler" certificate pictured above. We have some guesses, but they're all way lurid.

Lovin' all this Microsoft goodness on iOS lately! Halo Waypoint, My Xbox Live and even SkyDrive are good offerings. Nice to see Microsoft taking advantage of an already established platform and using it to the benefit of us gamers.

Microsoft has been really impressing me lately by not taking their ball and going home. They're playing nice with the competition so in the end, everyone wins.

There are some out there that think this hurts WP7, and I've even seen some say it makes them want to leave the Windows Phone platform when they see Microsoft releasing things on other platforms.
I don't think it hurts WP7 though. Games released to iOS don't have achievements, and all of the other apps (aside from photosynth) are already integrated into the WP7 experience.
I personally don't think that a few games or apps detracts from Windows Phone. The whole experience/ecosystem is the reason to own a Windows Phone, not a handful of exclusive apps/games.

i didn't want to say anything but you're wrong, not totally, but you're wrong to think this does not hurt MS. It does. Its a bullet they are willing to bite because they simply can't ignore the cashcow that is the iOS app store. People have become millionaires because of it so im pretty sure MS decided it was better for profits. If MS didn't care that they would also release an Android version anyways.
I don't deny people gravitate to WP7 because of its ecosystem but the exact same thing can be said about iOS, and the apps are essentially the most important part of todays phones so a few "exclusive" apps are more important then you think.

I don't know, it's unlikely there has been or ever will be anyone on the planet who decided to get a Windows Phone because it has Kinectimals. And WP doesn't have the visibility needed at this point to even make exclusivity matter anyway- you need a degree of buzz for that. On the other hand, if you can get your services and games hooked into people on other platforms when it comes time to get a new phone maybe they decide to give WP a shot.

Good call on the "Cub Handler" title, Ben. My mind went to the same place. Now I need some brain bleach.

So, can you tie this to your profile and ear the mobile-only achievements? Because if so, that's pretty awesome.

doesn't this kind of negate the name Kinectimals?

Like the saying goes if you can't beat them or destroy them ,then help each other make tons of cash.

It feels different, for those who like these kind of simulation games ( reminiscent of Nintendogs...) is a nice touch, plus you can connect . and share data

As stupid as it sounds, I like having some exculsives on my platform (WP7). How would the 360 owners feel about Halo or Gears of War hitting the PS3? It's silly, but we need all the help we can get over here.
