Max Payne 3 multiplayer to have 'Gang War' narrative, Bullet Time
18
The multiplayer component of Max Payne 3 is shaping up to be absolutely insane, provided the oodles of ambition outlined in this recent IGN preview is fully realized. The competitive branch of the game will focus on "Gang War" mode, an objective-based team mode which sees player's goals change dynamically based on the events of the previous round. For instance, the player with the most kills in the last round may have a bounty on their head in the following match, while a certain territory your team stole in the previous game will have to be fended off in future encounters.
Players will customize their loadouts using Bursts -- usable perks which become more powerful the longer the player goes without using them. These include intriguing abilities like Paranoia, which makes the opposing team see their teammates as enemies, simultaneously enabling friendly fire. There's also the series' trademark Bullet Time, which works by slowing down foes caught in the user's line of sight. Check out IGN for more info about how Multi-Max's abilities break down.

Bullet time in multiplayer.... did I miss something here? or did they found a way to manipulate time in real word .... "slowing down foes caught in the user's line of sight" wouldn't that mean that those foes will also benifit from the slowed time? just saying

I imagine the player who initiated Bullet time would slow down to a lesser extent than the player caught in it, thus giving them a slight advantage.
My question is if I'm not in the line of sight of the player would I be able to shoot at the slowed down enemy at normal speed

I think I'm the last game as you killed enemies in bullet time, Max and his rate of fire sped up. It was like you were in normal time, but enemies were in slow-mo. I imagine it's like that. The real advantage to bullet time was that your aiming generally didn't slow down. They'll probably slow down the enemies aiming cursor too.

would it not be similar to Red Dead. you could slow things down there and the enemy had no idea. i would imagine it would slow down time for the player and improve accuracy. so for the opposite player, it just seems that the guy is really accurate.

Bullet time in Multiplayer? Awesome.
it worked for Killing Floor for PC it could work so much better in this. (Also stranglehold..but let's keep that out of people memories.)

Sounds interesting, especially the the piece about the bounty.

That actually sounds really intriguing. It seems like there is an emerging trend to try and move some multiplayer modes past individual matches towards a larger, more cohesive experience. Even if it isn't Max Payne, some is going to get this right, and it is going to be glorious.

Max Payne is a Rockstar franchise right?
If so, then day one buy for me. I'm a Rockstar fanboy, so any haters can shut up.

i was thinking the matches would kinda start like in red dead. when theres a stand off but everyones scattered. although still close enough to see each other. then the game begins and everyone gets a 2 second running start. then everyone goes into bullet time. and maybe have a bullet time period at the biginning, middle and very end of every match.

Bullet Time in multiplayer makes as much as gameplay sense as they possibly could make it, but it's still a compromise. Bullet time is about being god-like and mowing down your enemies, which isn't conducive to fun in multiplayer. The fact that they're doing multiplayer at all is depressing - they probably feel the need to "keep the disc in the tray longer", as it was and is with many single-player focused games these days, Dead Space 2 being an example...

I don't see why bullet time is such a big deal. It's in MW3. (But people call it lag.)

I'd go so far as to say it needs more than bullet time. the setting, themes, and ambience have all been changed.
To me this game is Max Payne in name only.

Why does everyone go on about how different this game is. First his haircut and now location! There's at least a couple of levels in New York. The last two games were set there. I'm looking forward to a new setting. If this was all set in NY I probably wouldn't play it. Every game nowadays seems to be set in NY. No one is gonna not see a batman movie cos his suits different or he spends 20 mins in HomgKong #moveon
