Way back in the day, their open-world RPG Gothic 2 blew my mind. This was before I knew of the amazingness of TES: Morrowind, but still it was a good introduction to the budding genre.

By the time Gothic 3 rolled around, it was far, far behind the quality of Oblivion and other RPGs of the day, but I still kept hope for ol' European Pirahna Bytes.

Risen is the real successor to the Gothic series, and I heard good things about it and even enjoyed the demo briefly. Never got around to playing it, but it's still on my Steam wishlist!

Here's to hoping they can pull through with Risen 2 and make it an experience on par with the Witcher 2 and Skyrim!

@Naru now in 3D - I pretty much disagree with you on gothic 3. It's way better and world is a whole lot larger than in Risen. Gothic 3 is a real successor to Gothic 2, not some Risen. My all-time favourite games are gothic 1, 2 and 3. Risen or Oblivion isn't even close.

Damn it, each and every time I read something about Risen 2 it reminds me of how much we NEED a Pirates of Dark Water videogame...

@Third

Or you mean we need one other than the 16-Bit beat em up.

@ZombieFever
Well, yes. Though "... other than the 16-bit beat em up." seems to be accurate for my videogame requests in general.

this is gonna be real guud...

I enjoyed Risen a lot, and if Risen 2 is as nearly as good as the first then this is going to be awesome... + the new pirate based style of the game is really something ive been waiting for in games =D

I keep running around with a Scimitar in Skyrim eventho I have better weapons just for the sake of looking like a pirate!

Looking forward to this, but christ that screenshot looks awful.

Piranha Bytes needs to go the Bethesda school of bullshotting.

My most anticipated game of next year, followed by Metro Last Light.

Risen is one of my favorite RPGs.

Joystiq's pirate pun writer better shape up, or he'll be walking the plank once this game comes out.

I picked up Risen after seeing it in s bin at GameStop having no Gothic knowledge. It looked cool and I was looking for different western RPGs I've never heard if to play, like Sacred 2 and Divinity. I really liked it. Never beat it, though...the final boss kept kicking my ass, and I hated that even the smallest of enemies can one-shot you randomly...but I had a lot of fun. Reminded me of a Small-scale Runescape with Fable graphics.

Well, that and looking in the marketplace for it I saw a trailer that had Nightwish in it, one of my favorite bands ever.

Well, they better tighten up the graphics on level 3, that game looks like a title from the previous console generation.
