Modern Warfare 3 adds Community Playlists, title update

Modern Warfare 3 players are in for a few treats today. First off, Activision's blockbuster has been updated with multiplayer playlist tweaks and an entirely new mode. Dubbed "Drop Zone," the latter tasks players with capturing and holding a ... drop zone. The team with the most players in the zone will receive a care package every fifteen seconds. The twist: Earning care packages is the only way to achieve pointstreaks. Drop Zone marks the first entry in the new Community Playlists section, which will play host to "popular or unique private match modes" created by users themselves.

The second playlist change is the addition of Hardcore Headquarters Ricochet to the Hardcore playlist. Furthermore, all Hardcore modes will now feature ricochet, meaning that all friendly fire will be reflected back to the attacker. In other words: Shooting a teammate is basically shooting yourself.

Finally, Infinity Ward community guru Robert Bowling has tweeted that a title update will be available today to address "Host Disadvantage" / "Lag Compensation."

I'm kinda surprised with all the glitz and glamor given to the Elite service that they haven't released a map pack or piece of DLC to end out the year.

@refinedsugar I thought they said that they were going to start at the first of the year in 2012 so that it will be a full year of dlc and likely to allow for the most people to get the game/elite for Christmas. I could be wrong but thats what I thought the plan was all along.

The only problem I have with this game is the lag compensation. This game is fun as hell when there's no lag. But when it's there, it makes it nearly unplayable, since you have no chance of reacting to being shot at. Hopefully this patch finally fixes this problem.

@Jay Z It has been like this the last couple COD games. The worst is when you go around a corner and the wall is protecting you from being shot but you still die. When you watch the replay, you never fully went around the corner. Very frustrating.

@Arimus25 Exactly. I don't remember this happening in COD4. I don't know how Infinity Ward made the networking worse after each game. Seems they should be learning from their mistakes, not making more of them.

Yup. I stopped playing for this exact reason. Until I hear from my friends and the community that they have fixed this issue, I will be finishing up Skyrim. Will return to MW3 when its playable.

My big beef STILL is the Sniper Quick Scope. Please remove it from ALL sniper rifles.

@Jay Z Totally agree with you.I've gave up playing MW3 until they properly address this,i was getting so pissed off with the lag.I play any other COD and i'm fine then you play MW3 and it's like no way are my reactions that slow lmao!

@OGC Skyrim has been very playable, actually. The worst and only thing I've personally encountered through my 100 hours of playing have been the occasional freeze from extended hours of play. Other than that, I haven't experience a single glitch. It's been the same way for three of my friends, no problems on our end.

Lmfao wtf is up with the hardcore change, what jackass thought of that? Ohhh this is CoD, yah got me.

With the leaps and bounds of gaming technology in the last 10 years... Why cant some people just enjoy videogames and how awesome they are now. Why doe it matter who made it or what platform its on?

It's because of 'jackasses' who pull out a rocket and kill every person on their team within 3 seconds of the round starting. It was ruining the game

That game mode sounds pretty bad ass. Can't wait to try it.

Lag is my only complaint with MW3. If this patch helps fix the lag problem, a lot of controllers will be saved from destruction.

The new mode is only available in a private match, btw.

Drop Zone has always been in private match. Now it's available in public matches.

I really surprised at this. CoD has never done anything like this, really, but I'm hoping they add Infection into that community playlist.

Personally, I think Black Ops was the best in the series. It fixed a lot of on-going issues I had with the series, and I felt like the balance was probably the best overall. The ballistic knife and crossbow were loads of fun too.

MW3 isn't bad, but I feel like it's a step back from Black Ops.

I agree. I rented MW3 ... and gave it an honest try, I was back on Black Ops by the end of the weekend.
