Unskippable cutscenes. Because putting them in the games wasn't enough.

It's only a minute long and only shows up the first time... it's not that bad.

I personally don't see any relation to iPhone. Maybe Android but not iPhone...

@Gadget Addict Well, iBooks (introduced over a year ago) features a very interactive page flipping animation. I think that's what makes this so similar. I guess the alert bubbles resemble iOS as well just a little bit.

A minute-long unskippable video the first time you boot it up to show you a little bit of what the system is capable of doesn't sound too bad to me, but maybe that's just because I accidentally read it as "every time" instead of "the first time" at first. If that happened EVERY time you booted the Vita, then THAT would be awful.

Two very minor things that bug me:
-You can't arrange the icons. That's super dumb.
-When you tap on a menu icon, it always loads up a preview page. I get that for games or other intensive applications that you don't want to just accidentally boot up if you didn't mean to, but for stuff like Settings, it just seems like a needless barrier. Also, I don't like that those previews don't fill up the whole screen. They leave room on the edges, which looks a little sloppy to me.

Other than that, very cool system.

1. You can rearrange the icon and create up to 10 home pages with up 100 app icons by taping and holding any icon on the screen.

2. Those edges serve as bottons to switch between each page if you don't want to swipe and also leave space for the notification icons at the top right as well as where you peel to close an app.

he actually corrected himself in the text and said that you can actually rearrange the icons.
And i like the idea of the live area, because i often lose the game manuals to games, and from what i've heard on this, this is how games will integrate the manual, so no one has to worry about losing them.
Also having the ability to download dlc, and themes from the live area is also a neat concept.

Butthurt crybabies that throw a hissy fit every time anything Apple related is mentioned omitting the possible mention of something they prefer that would help them feel smug and superior were invented by the internet though.

Agreed kinda.. that interface doesn't look like iOS any more than it looks like.. any other touch screen device with icons. And imo, I think those round icons are kinda ugly. And yeah, I'm a fan of Apple products.. but still, it is just a touchscreen device with icons.. nothing like iOS.

Have glossy effect the icons on a home screen before the iphone?
Were the icons sorted by pages before the iPhone?
Does a device unlocked sliding something on the screen before the iPhone?
etc? etc? etc?

Nop, nop... and nop and etcetcetc

Exactly, If I were to say the interface felt like anything I'd have said Android because it's different enough that it doesnt feel like a clone of any of apple's concepts outside of a touch screen interface.

@Swifter Actually, it might have been. I think the Macintosh was the first computer to feature a visual interface and a desktop. Don't hold me to that though.

Apple fanboys........... I'm pretty sure my Android has icons that can be arranged as well as a "stylized" lockscreen... And i can side load apps and use it however I want and have more choices in phones so yeah, clearly iPhone is better

@joer22784 Are you reading what you write? No, seriously, are you? I'm not talking about spelling or grammar, I'm talking about the inane batshit rambling I just read.

You start off complaining that someone compared the interface to iOS, you end on a juvenile tirade about why Android is better than iOS.

Seriously, how do you go through life caring that much about this nonsense? Use what you like and shut the fudge up. It's a comparison, a comparison that even someone as thick as you understood, yet 99% of the rest of us didn't blow an gasket over. This has nothing to do with a preference for either, and everything to do with how much I hate fanboys on the internet acting like fanboy douchetard asshats.

Enjoy your ulcers.

GOD!

@Chris DPSN AggieCEO XBLThe Aggi

The thing that blows my mind the most is that this kind of interface is always attributed to the iPhone, but the Palm Pilot I had a half decade before the iPhone came out had a nearly identical interface. Don't get me wrong, Apple makes some great stuff, but they get too much credit.

Part of the problem is just this whole instant asumption that if it was based on anything it had to be IOS despite the fact that sony has been humpin Android like mad to the point that I'd be surprised if the Vita wasnt android powered to begin with. Two android tablets, a playstation phone with android, and the playstation suite that aids the translation of sony products to android devices? yeah sure it had to be IOS...

People complain because apple gets props for everything including the things it had nothing in common with. Sure there are other icon based UIs but why is it apple's? Customization is an android staple, not IOS. It's also this whole elevation of Jobs to some god like status when he did nothing more than try to keep a buisness afloat and unknowingly create an elitist culture the refuses to accept any other product as being remotely on par... Yeah, I want there.

The little things like sticker peeling were really cool to look at, but I feel like the entire interface wasn't built to do things quickly. Is there an option to turn off animations, the lock screen, and just put a damn X in the corner for closing games/apps? I like my interfaces quick and functional, not flashy and time consuming.

Menus and interactions feel like a Wii/iPhone/Xbox360/PS3/PSP mutant thing... I kinda want the XMB and new features I've never seen before, for example the 'peeling off' thingy :D

Wii - When you load an 'app' it shows a little menu just like in the Wii
iPhone - touch controls as well as locking the Vita and swiping in the menu
360 - Menu colors and designs
PS3 - can play good games/good gaming console
PSP - portable, small
