I actually just STARTED playing FF11. The game is pretty unforgiving to newbies, but I'm powering through it and enjoying the game's charm on my lvl13 THF.

I kinda wish Squeenix put all their money into updating ff11's UI and graphics instead of making the disastrous ff14... There's a lot of cool stuff in FF11 if you look hard enough!

Actually, more than a few "someone's" are still playing.

Not me, but they do have more than one server up. ;p

I still play this game. I spend more hours on this game than any other console or PC game I own.

Tried playing the game again (played it launch). No, I just couldn't do it. It's so damn boring, slow, grind-fest. And still no soloing.

This MMO just needs to die. Along with 14, which will die next month when they start charging the monthly fee.

@EIranzer screw you, this is the only MMO I actually find fun to this day, and solo in an MMO? WTF WHY? I'll solo when I'm playing skyrim, not solo when im online

Playing a MMO at launch and basing your final and LASTING opinion on it is like losing your virginity to a vacuum. You don't do it or at the very least you don't talk about it or base the idea of sex off it.

FF11 makes EVERY mistake when it comes to introducing it's world to new players. But if you manage to get used to the controls and figure things out (online guides help) you can find a good game hidden in there somewhere.

You're an idiot then. Because with recent changes there's less grind then wow. In a week you can go from 1 to 90 if you are a new character. 1 to 90 if in 24 hours if you are established and playing a second job. This isn't total time playing by the way. I have several friends that started up just recently and have surpassed me in a number of areas. But I don't play games for long periods of time all at once.

"late payment penalties"

Tekajigawhat? They charged you a penalty for not paying for not auto renewing your account? That alone should be criminal if true.

Of course If I recall correctly this is the game I steared clear of because I had heard that if you left your account inactive for (insert arbitrary time) you essentially had to buy a new copy of the game .......

I was waiting for the PS3 edition of the game, but so many problems that plague this game is such a turn off.

Your thinking of 14. The ps3 version went out the window when they ran into the roadblock of 'game sucks' with the PC version. I think they are waiting till they get it in a good spot before worrying about a ps3 port.

Wouldn't be surprised if it became a ps4 game at this rate.

The people still playing FF11 might have been waiting for FF14, but we see how that went.

I also hate how the legal process is so backed up that a case that started in 2009 could be held up until almost 2012 is here. There might be people that signed on to this lawsuit who have forgotten it even existed.

@Lerkero Yep, alot went back to FFXI but are still waiting around to see how v2.0 turns out. I'm hoping it does turn out decently enough because members of my original FFXI social are planning to join back together then. Being in that social was what made my time there extremely special and no other MMO has come close.

@Elranzer If you really find FFXI nowadays hard to solo and hard to level up, you need to seriously consider just giving up MMOs altogether. Even FFXIV is extremely easy to solo to current max level now.

Actually, there are seventeen servers still up and running in this game, each with a "someone" count of 3,000 someones at peak times and around 1600 someones at non-peak times.

Multiply that by seventeen... that sure is a lot of someones for an MMORPG that is ten years old :)

yeah, xi is still great.. especially if you're into the real intensive group-focused play that it offers, compared to a lot of other games that feature a lot of solo content. not to mention, less 12 year olds in xi than in some 'other' games. i miss it sometimes :/

What is more shocking isn't that people are playing FFXI, but there are people willing to pay to play FFXIV.

XI was a decent game, still mostly is. XIV is an abomination upon man.

dude...this article makes me want to play ffxi.

it was my first mmorpg...

and much like your first love... i still love it, hate it, miss it and compare every other future mmo to it.

i mean.. yea.. the grind is bad (it was WAAAAY worse in 2004) but i have yet to be as satisfied in any mmo as I was the first time I...

performed a skillchain
hit a magic burst
crafted an HQ item
claimed a random, free spawning notorious monster (I SEE YOU LEAPING LIZZY)

The problem is the game was too consuming, and getting anything relevant done took FOREVER. Thats why I ultimately quit, but man, do i miss it sometimes....

I played FFXIV for 4 months. Gave that game a fighting chance. Garbage.

Now I'm on TOR.. but I sometimes start my PlayOnline program just to hear that sweet sweet start up music....
