Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary shirt is a real treasure, for a limited time
41
You enter the quiet, overgrown cavern by pushing open the heavy stone door with all your might. Inside, sunlight streams through the broken ceiling, and dust that hasn't been disturbed in hundreds of years lazily floats through the air, shaken up by your entrance. The sunbeams land on the summit of a small set of stairs, where an ornate, red and gold chest sits, teasing and waiting for you to open it.
You do. As you crack open the ancient treasury, a small fanfare plays, starting quietly and then opening up into a triumphant series of simple notes, telling you that you have finally done it. The item you pull out of the centuries-old coffer is fine treasure indeed.
It's a shirt, adorned with some kind of legendary logo, a heart container tag, and the number "25" on the back. It's available in five sizes, for a special one-time only printing. Order now, before February 20, 2012, to get it sometime this May. You fold the shirt into your leather pack, and move on through the dungeon -- who knows what fearsome beast you might have to use this on, three different times, to defeat it?

That looks like something you'd get from club Nintendo. I'll pass.

Oh man haha, server jam? Really? I understand the excitement, but February 20th gives one plenty of wiggle room.
Charging this kind of money they're smart to announce this after Christmas cash and gift cards have been given.

I was about to be sad that they didn't appear to have a female-style shirt as well, but then I saw it was $70.

They sell that one too for a measly 63 dollars!

I like a lot of their shirts but I really can't justify paying more than ~$25 for one.

You can't just slap the words "limited edition" on something and charge an obscene amount of money for it… or can you?
Does anyone want to buy some "limited edition" packing tape? It's more adhesive than regular packing tape, and your friends will think you're super-cool for owning it.

For $70 I'd be scared to wear the damn thing. I'd no doubt stain it after 5 minutes.

No way, not for $70. Plenty of non official t-shits that looks just as good for a fraction of that cost. For $70 it better e a damn Link Tunic hoody or something.

Way too much for a t-shirt, no matter what is on it. For that much money, you'd think part of the proceeds were going to some charity.

I wouldn't pay $70 for $70. That's how cheap I am.

This is a really good example of how crazily overpriced everything is in Japan right now. It's been bad for a long time, but it really is at a peak now. I mean, their new games are commonly in the $80-$120 range. This is another example. The gang on the 8-4 podcast try to tell people about how insane the market is.

you complain about $70, but 7000 yens (shipping included) is about 1250 pesos, that's $100 dollars ¬¬... so no, I'll pass ):

The shirt looks pretty phenomenal but $70 is way too expensive. I already have my fair share of Zelda shirts and I don't think I've paid more than $25 for any of them

It surprises me when people freak out about $70 for a shirt but most are willing to pay over $200 for a pair of freaking shoes. SHOES!
Clothing shouldn't cost you a second mortgage, no matter what's on it or whose name is selling it. That is a pretty nice shirt, though. It would look nicer with a $40 price drop.

What? $70? Is that gold-colored glitter REAL gold?

At first I thought $70 was outrageous, but then I considered that these shirts are probably made by well-paid Japanese workers instead of 3rd-world sweatshops. Slave labor is the reason for our $10 and $20 shirts, people.
