Price-fixing PSN: Amy to launch Jan. 17 for $10 in North America
45
The PSN version of Amy will hit North America on Jan. 17 for $9.99, the same day and price as the XBLA version. After previously announcing the PSN price to be $3 more than the XBLA price, Developer Lexis Numerique asked the US audience through a Facebook poll if it wanted a cheaper game, but one week later. It turns out Americans are more patient than we thought, but just as frugal.
Now it's official -- Amy will launch in Europe on Jan. 11 for €9.9 (£7.99, 800 MS Points) on PSN and XBLA, and on Jan. 17 for $10 (800 MS Points) in North America on both consoles.

This whole ordeal was stupid.

@mywhitenoise This is one of those "Why not just do the obvious and save us all some time" scenarios. The obvious in this case being "release the game at the same price on all platforms."
At least it's over now and I can sleep again.

Yeah, this seems more like good marketing. I figured they did the poll to either 1] Bring attention to the fact that MS points are not based on a specific currency and 2] Make people pay more attention to their game by getting it more press than it would have otherwise.

wait.. what? XBLA release (US) was moved too? O_o

@JDSan24 I don't think so. According to IGN, it still comes out this Wednesday in NA. If it was delayed, that'd just been stupid

There we go; problem solved. Really, though, it shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

This could have totally been avoided if they just converted the currency to Xbox points instead of using Xbox points as the standard.

What horseshit. They don't deserve my $13. Or is it $10? Or will they mess up again and have it end up being ¥15430.098?

Wow, totally shocked people wanted to wait for a cheaper price that was more expensive for a very stupid reason.
Posted: Jan 9th 2012 7:21PM Kougeru said
It's not really being frugal when most people simply wanted fairness. They wanted the SAME price as XBOX...whether that be 9.99, or 12.99 on both consoles.

@Kougeru
And especially since to get a fair price ps3 users would have to wait a week later.

I'm disappointed the XBLA version was also pushed back. I wanted to play it tomorrow.

"the US version will launch on Jan. 11 for XBLA. The US PSN edition launches on Jan. 10."
"and on Jan. 17 for $10 (800 MS Points) in North America on both consoles. "
"both consoles."
It was moved from the 11th to the 17th for the XBLA version and from the 10h to the 17th for the PSN version.

This wasn't the first XBLA/PSN game ever released so I don't know how they thought they would get away with pricing the game differently in the SAME region. Their justification for it, according to their comments, is to make the price "the same" in the US and Europe, but when you get down to it, 800 MS points in the US is CHEAPER than 800 MS Points in Europe, so no, it isn't the same. They were completely stupid about this and I'm amazed the problem even came up.

@Esposch
I was comparing 800 MS points in Europe as opposed to the US and you verified my statement. It is indeed more expensive in Europe. So unless MS eats the difference and pays that $3 to them for the US sales, then nothing I said was untrue. It isn't the same in the US and Europe as you just demonstrated the cost difference in MS points.

According to Amazon
800MSP equals $10.50USD in the US and $11.78USD in the UK. So, really it's only about a dollar and 28 cents difference, which of course varies with the market, but even at three dollars difference I don't think UK gamers will feel ripped off,as it's what they always paid.
I wouldn't be upset if Australians were only pay $8USD for 800 points. It just doesn't matter, so this AMY pricing issue is NOT an issue.

Yeah Joystiq screwed up, the facebook page that regarded the price change states that the XBLA release will still be January 11th. Im really excited for this game!

Why was this even an issue?
This had to be a publicity stunt. Who in their right mind would've voted to keep the price at $12.99 on the PSN?

I'm glad the ruckus that me and maybe some other people brought down upon this company, helped them to change their minds and not create alot of ill will in the fan base.

The 360 ppl might get it tomorrow, but I don't care about the timing really. I'm all happy and excited that I was able to restore the file system on the ps3 just enough so that I can keep playing Fallout 3 again without the system freezing up (a side consequence of trying to get splinter cell: chaos theory working on the ps3 and failing miserably).

I'm going to assume that there's a reason they can't just launch it this week for 13 bucks, drop the price next week, and give a 3 dollar rebate to anyone who buys this week.

@Gibbeynator
They wanted to make the higher price more attractive. Seriously, there are some nutjobs commenting on the Amy Facebook page who would have agreed to a price discrepancy to get the game a week early. Yeah, that's a great idea. Set a precedent for other publishers to pull this kind of crap.

As already pointed out, the Xbox version of the game STILL COMES OUT THE 11th
"Because of technical constrained of the PSN Store linked to the servers, this price change will postpone the release of the PSN version of AMY in the US to next week, Jan 17, 2012. This price drop will not affect the release of AMY in the other territories, or on other platforms, as the release date for the XBLA version is still slated for January 11, 2012, for 800 MS points in the US"
I feel like this is misinformation that could have been avoided by checking the information on the original source (the facebook page for the game) rather than just using sony's twitter.

What a surprise, consumers chose to have it for a cheaper price -_-. Who the hell at the Amy developer thought they were going to choose the higher price just to have it a week early?

why would they do that to begin with...so damn stupid if you ask me.

PSN prices really suck. The first thing that comes to mind is the Renegade Ops Christmas sale. Regular price is $15. PSN holiday sale price was $12 and the PS+ price was $9. The xbla holiday price for both gold and silver members was $7.50.
