@Traptz At the very least, make a new game engine. Each title makes around a billion dollars now, it's time to invest that money back into the series. Then again, why do that when you can crank out more of the same and reap higher profits.

Heres an idea. Take a look at what DICE did with Battlefield 3.

New engine, new animations, new gun sounds. New everything. Result? AWESOMESAUCE!!!!!!!

That's a nice sentiment, but the real problem with the lack of fresh IPs lies with the consumer. Activision knows the market and the majority of it hates the unknown and fears innovation or you can blame people for being just plain stupid. I think MW3 is actually a decent game that really gets too much flak for being no 1. BTW I like both series, except MW2. For all the Chest pounding EA did about Battlefield 3, the launch was completely botched rittled with connection issues and game ending bugs and the PS3 version still hasn't had the 1.3 update or any squad com/ controller lag fixes. At the very least MW3 or any Call of Duty has been stable, where as every Battlefield game since the series inception has been riddled with fustrating issues.

Minecraft's epic success says Hi, and I'm pretty sure Activision knows about it. They know that you have to innovate to rule, their standards of innovation are either just really really broken or overshadowed by "They keep buying this, let's keep having our teams remake and resell it to make more Dosh!" Either way they're idiots.

The old word-twisting, eh? I'm not saying that at all, actually. If you don't like the games because you dislike the actual gameplay or what not, that's fine. I'm commenting on the fact that you actually will get downvoted here for liking these games; that most people just hate them for no other reason than just to hate them. These are well made games. If they were rushed out the door and looked and played like garbage, then I'd hate them too, but they aren't.

I look forward to them and have a lot of fun playing it with my friends. I really like the campaigns in each of them as well, but Black Ops had an awful campaign that I immediately forgot about and never wanted to return to later.

I take it you didn't play MW2. But if all you play is CoD and Halo it's easy to see how you think they're well made.

I actually enjoyed the campaign more in Black Ops than any other I've played. Its the first one I've bought after borrowing a copy since Call of Duty 2. The other games strike me as a disjointed narrative, jumping from one person's perspective to the next, but in Black Ops I never became confused as to what was going on. It almost seems like the other titles have tried to tell too broad of a story, and lose their focus as a result.

To each their own though.

That's what I'm talking about right there. Because I like the games, you now assume that all I play is Halo and COD. That's a pretty ridiculous statement to make based on me enjoying COD that couldn't be further from the truth. Also, are you now saying that the Halo games are poorly made, too? You're getting a little off track here, Troll.

Just tell me why you don't like the COD games. I'm prefectly fine with you or anyone else not liking these games, but you seem to have an issue with me liking them.

@Uncle Jesse The Call of Duty games haven't been well made games for a long time, and are clearly rushed out of the door. Ever wonder why IW and Treyarch spend 6 of the games 12 month initial lifespan fixing things like spawns, glitches, weapon damage, and playlists? Because the game was never finished in the first place. And the funny thing is, they don't have to release a finished product, people proved that they'll buy it anyway.

I agree that the story gets pretty hazy going forward in Modern Warfare, but I didn't really care about anything in Black Ops. More importantly, I just didn't have that much fun playing the campaign. Clearly loads of people enjoyed the game though. I just wasn't into it much at all. Also, I always look forward to the co-op Spec Ops mode and there wasn't one in Black Ops. That really hurt.

I don't take an issue with people liking them. I take issue with comments like the one in your first post, which is really just poisoning the well.

As far as why I don't like them? The campaigns are too short, the enemy AI is awful, and Activision doesn't understand competitive pricing. I'm not paying $60 for what amounts to an expansion pack. Especially when it's been out for a year.

I appreciate your stance here, because I agree that a lot of the bashing of the Call of Duty series seems to very misguided and lost in a popular trend to hate the series. Now, having said that, I don't own or play them myself. I don't think they are terrible or need to be wiped off the earth, I just, well, don't have fun playing them. I have a kid brother who loves them and every new version he gets me to play a little with him in an attempt to see his love for them. I don't know if it's the feel of the guns or the level structure or AI behavior or what, but I never quite feel like a badass or have that Ah-ha! moment where I feel attuned with the game. Chances are it's because I am a grandpa at heart and I like games to move a little slower for my old-man brain (though Serious Sam 3 was one of my favorites of 2011, so I do like mindless shooting too). I think the problem that myself and others who don't play CoD have is that we see just how much those games are making and how they are influencing the industry, but then games we love get overshadowed and never see sequels or whatnot. I think it's a matter of wishing that there could be a little more balance and a little less monopolization of the genre.

Well said. They aren't my favourite games ever or something here, I just enjoy them and look forward to playing them with friends. Absolutely there are more deserving games out there that don't get even a quarter of the attention that this series does, but does that mean that I'm supposed to hate on these games for that reason? I still have a good time with them, so I can't really complain. If it wasn't this series getting the attention, it would be something else. It will always be like this in every type of media. Look at the movies out there. Critically acclaimed, amazing films might pull in 15 million bucks while some giant, loud mess rakes in hundreds of millions.

That being said, I don't agree with the $15 dollar map packs and I've never bought a single one - that's how I deal with it. Obviously, people are just fine with paying for it so why would they bother lowering the price or changing their business model? I like the games, so I won't complain even though I may agree with some of them. The more popular something is, the more unpopular it becomes at the same time.

As an avid COD4 player it is a concern of mine when I see a franchise I used to love taking advantage of it's customers.

You people buy $60 DLC's..same game, released every year with a new title and some new maps..

Yea, it's your money..but you people are letting the greediest gaming publisher in the world fuel their fire.

We'll see how happy you people are when COD becomes pay to play..

A: Because I'm a PC gamer..If you ever played a COD game on PC after COD4 you would understand why.

B: Most importantly, I hate what the franchise has become. It's become a lazy cash cow.

They put no effort into making these games and people still buy them with a $60 price tag. You can deny it all you want but MW3 was nothing but a $60 DLC of MW2.

They want to pump out a new COD EVERY YEAR...You know who else does this? MMO's!!! Same game, just expanded. That's all COD is now and you're all adding to the problem.

Maybe most of you are too young to have nostalgia for COD4 or maybe you just have poor taste. W/E your case may be, please think twice before you purchase your next COD. You will most likely get glassy eyed with the glitz and glamor that is Activision advertising and forget that you've played this game 5 times but it has a new title.

Look at TF2 or Counter Strike, those games has been out for how many years and they're still just as strong as COD.

COD will never change because you people don't speak up. You are the reason this franchise will drive itself into extinction and you'll look back and wonder where it all went wrong..well, it started with MW2. lolmatchmaking

Because of the FPS trend in the gaming market, other genres receive the shit end support. This in turn hits the devs wanting to do these genres with miniscule marketting and people funding.

"If it doesn't meat CoD: XX levels, we close the studio." It has happened. It will continue to happen.

I'm awaiting the first Final Fantasy FPS.

I've never played Call of Duty in my life, so don't think I'm defending the series. But it's very clear, based only on the numbers, that you're in the minority.

There seems to be plenty of people more than happy with the series as is. In fact, each iteration seems to be even better than the last, if sales are to be believed.

If you don't like it anymore, then move on. There's so many similar games out there, there must be something out there that you like. Otherwise, COD4 remains an option, does it not?

dude the campaigns in these games are fun. don't deny it. it takes a lot of effort to construct a game with as much action and interesting scenes to shoot through. Also the Co Op sections are tops in the industry. Don't act like no work went into these games.

You know why the game gets more and more sales? ADVERTISING.

You should see the COD forums after the game is released..it's filled with complaints about the game.

But yet mindless drones wonder in and buy the game again next year..

Why do you think people always say "You're still going to buy it" when someone says they hate the game? Because it's a damn near fact that people buy these games purely out of peer pressure and the hope that it will be better than the last.

And as I stated, I'm a PC player..this game does d!ck for sales on PC. Counter Strike and Skyrim are beating MW3 on PC atm.

I may be the minority, but that doesn't mean I'm not right. COD's biggest customer's are children in the early teens. Is that really the group you wanna take gaming advice from?

They make a COD in a year..did you know that Black Ops lead dev said "I want 3 years to make a game, 1 year to theyorcraft, 1 year to develop and 1 year to polish. Making a game like this in 1 year is just a huge cram session"

Yea dude..a lot of work went into making a game in 9 months, which is what Black Ops was made in.

black ops was made in two years. world at war came out in 2008. MW21 came out in 2009 but that was made by infinity ward

just because a game is heavily scripted and linear makes it bad?

most games just fill time with unnecessary back tracking and running long distances to extend their play time. These games just cut all of that out in favor of keeping it fast paced.

the closest game you can compare this to is BF3. BF3 has a much better MP mode but it's single player and cop op modes are no where near as fun. they'd be boring even if CoD didn't exist. There is no other game out there doing what CoD is doing as well as they are doing it.

@eat it How are they fun? Your in cover the entire time regenerating health and if not, are in a scripted event. Have you played a game with a good campaign? At least black ops had a interesting storyline. Anyone saying the campaign is good hasn't played a good singleplayer campaign in a long time or ever.
