You might be in for a shock to see how many QTE's are put in Ninja Gaiden 3. That's one measure that is pushing me back from initially getting this game.

WHY do people hate QTEs so much!? In GOW they were perfect, In the FF 13-2 demo they were pretty fun and interesting yet people bash on them as if they are truly bad or something.

Let me find you the link to the two stage play through of Ninja Gaiden 3. The game starts off with QTE events set in the game. Its how you combat now.

http://www.gamesradar.com/ninja-gaiden-3-see-first-30-minutes/

The QTE feels tacked on. It doesn't feel like it belongs in a Ninja Gaiden game.

I wouldn't say that I hate QTE I think they are good when used sparingly or used with a character purpose like having some form of consequences when not press properly or at the right time. Its when they are used in the game fighting and all around through the game that it becomes irritating.

People hate them because QTEs take control away from the player. Sometimes they're appropriate (boss battle finishes) but overuse is just dumb.

I know of someone who only buys Collector's edition if available.
If he doesn't have enough money for it, he waits and saves up so that he can buy the collector's edition, he refuses to buy normal lol

If they're out he buys one online.

@legacybush; For the simple reason they take control away from the player. They let you press a random button or two, and then show you a few seconds of awesome that would have been really cool to actually control. They are a necessary evil in a medium that wants to be as cinematic as possible anymore, and that doesn't have controllers complex enough to input those 'moves' in a satisfying way (motion controls, definitely maybe).

I'd argue God of War did them out of necessity too, and thus they weren't implemented perfectly. For a game that came out just after Ninja Gaiden, it was kind of like stepping backwards ... fine game though it is. While Ninja Gaiden had you doing really cool moves with often complex yet intuitive input, God of War had you, for want of a better term, 'button mashing' until you could get to a button prompt. So to me, the act of inputting the commands to accomplish a task is much more satisfying than just watching it play out for you, even if it's not as intricate and 'cinematic' (or gory in the context of these two games).

@legacybush Are you kidding? QTEs are one of the many reasons the GoW games or so mediocre gameplay wise. They look pretty though...

Makes me wonder why so many people want a new Shenmue since QTE's in games are so lame all of a sudden.

@legacybush QTE's distract from what ever's going on.. Heavy Rain is about the only game to do them right... instead of giving me a quarter of a second to see, reason & press a button... like X.. that's either the top, left or bottom action button... It could be just my eyes, I know I'm not colour blind, but too often hit the wrong one on my 360 pad.. QTE's are THE one reason I've not beaten RE5 on hardest, when my attention is high on the screen, I know when the thing is going to pop, but the randomise the button, screwing me over - why not leave the buttons intuitive, Tie one to duck/dodge or whatever so I know which one to press instead of having to look to it before knowing what to hit... better yet, put an option in to have QTE's set to auto.. FFXIII-2's were reasonable in terms of reaction times, but still distracting from whatever else is going on, I'm sure one of them was up on the stick, I don't know what it did, I just want that crap gone

@legacybush its not that I hate them I just think they can make a game boring quick if they are overused. Im just not a fan of some games just becoming interactive movies. My favorite game this year (Dark Souls) didnt have any QTE parts and it felt like a game not a flashy tech demo. I did love the Shenmue series though but maybe thats because QTEs were fresh then. And dont get me started on Final Fantasy dude that series has been total garbage since 10.

So demos are pre-order bonuses now? Oy.

The only time I, personally, buy collectors/limited editions of new release games is when they have falling like a rock in price. Otherwise they aren't worth it with the exception of some RPGs (namely a bunch of PSP RPGs that are only $10 more but get nice soundtracks).

Remember back in the day when collectors/limited editions were only $10-20 more with really cool, physical extras? Yeah. Those were the days.

Come on... how can you call it a collector's edition if it doesn't come in a steel bookcase. Dammit I am such a sucker for CE\LE\SE versions of game I really like. I hope the price is reasonable....hope!

They should have one of those continuous fountains hooked up to those figurines but instead of water it's bloody colored. That would be sweeeeet!

Surprised they didn't package a large breasted, scantily clad, teen ninja figurine with breast bobbling action in this instead. Maybe that's the Japanese version.

Nope, that would of been Itagaki if he was still working. It would of been a bobble-head, or in this case a bobble-breast.

The guy currently running the show though is "too mature" for that, mature enough that Ryu needs to crack crappy one-liners while everyone whines around him.

I'm not the biggest 3D Ninja Gaiden fan (the NES ones are fantastic/difficult), but you had me with this shiny collectors edition all the way up until this line:

"The collector's edition will be available exclusively at Gamestop."

That collector's edition is WEAK. The demo is nothing, soundtracks are par for the course as is artbooks, and I'm willing to bet that the Figurine will start screaming "PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!" as soon as it is even jostled a little.

Overall, I have to say I'm disappointed with the demo of the first level I saw.

First off, the QTE's and no dismemberment is practically blasphemous. Second off, where's the orb collecting? Third, It seems your health bar regenerates during battles, which seems like it would make the game a bit easier.

Unlike the first two games, I can actually say I'm hesitant to buy this one.

@Walter White

To be fair, health regenerating isn't necessarily completely new. NG2 had Health Regen after every fight, the only caveat was that it only regenerated the health you lost that still has a bar displaying it (red if I remember right). Any health lost that isn't in the red remains lost until healed.
It looks like they are just going with "Hey, your health bar gets shorter if you get hit a crap tons of time, but only for that one battle!".

Orb collection is gone though, just like meaningful choices in weaponry, spell usage, and Ultimate Moves (since its only effective for up to 3 separate enemies).
