That budget price on Steam isn't bad either

I saw a video of this yesterday and purchased it on Steam. This game is amazing. It brings back the feel of Portal but also is completely fresh in its own way. I completed it in two sittings. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzle games.

This game looks like it would work well with the Razor Hydra controller that the Portal 2 DLC uses. Anyway I'll probably pick up this game at some point looks pretty fun.

@oOWallaceOo

Do you have the Hydra? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I've been interested in it for some time.

@Shadowbender

Sorry, but I'm actually in a similar situation as you. Very interested in trying out the Hydra, but not ready to buy one as I don't play many PC games. I tried looking for it at PAX Prime, but was pre-occupied by other things.

I played the demo, and it was definitely interesting. But I think RPS' review matched my opinion a little more. This just doesn't seem like it could hold my interest for the duration of the game, and I think that's mostly to do with how it's presented to you. I feel like it would be more fitting if it was set up Angry Birds/ Cut the Rope/ all mobile imitators style, whereas each level is actually a separate level that you select from a level selection screen. Not like a full blown story based single player game.

But I DID somewhat enjoy what I played. It was neat, just not great.

If you can imagine M.C. Escher sketching Portal making love to Tetris, then the internet has clearly desensitized you to absurd sexual imagery.
But on a serious (and less plagiaristic note), Q.U.B.E. is a fine puzzle game. With puzzle games any story is bonus, and if you can't approach the Portal in terms of narrative perfection whilst being heavily (let's say, "inspired" by it), then at least make the gameplay as tight as an inappropriate thai sexworker simile. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. The Escher-esque cube-based architecture mixed with the old "testing chamber" aesthetic works fine, the mechanics are solid (apart from the whole cube staying unsupported in mid-air is a bit immersion-shattering), the levels in darkness seemed to me to be the most interesting, if only due to the frustration and induction of claustrophobia.

I enjoyed the demo, just wish the hand execution was a little faster. If you miss a coloured cube and hit a white by mistake it takes a couple of seconds to take another shot.
Going to buy though, just learn not to miss lol

Seems interesting. Must give it a try (when I run my backlog of games down).

Looking forward to the sequel with a witty side character voiced by Ricky Gervais as well.

I would love to bring something like to iOS. Just need to figure out how to achieve the same fun factor in a 2D game.

@Assmar

It's Serious Sam but with robots in cramped dystopian sci-fi environments.

Do you really need a review?

It's like a complete ripoff of Portal, but it's a really good one. The demo was great, but after the Steam holiday sale, I'm trying to hold off on spending. It'l probably be on sale for $7.50 soon.

I played the demo and was completely underwhelmed. The only thing in the demo is some very boring platforming. As soon as I finished it, I wondered if that was all there was to the game.
If it wasn't, why put all the boring stuff done by other games in the demo? That doesn't help sell it to anyone.

I think you missed it, it was the start of the game. With the idea being that it's cheaper than most and you would buy it to experience the rest. It's a given that the demo should have given 2 or 3 harder levels after giving you the ropes though.

I liked to demo when I played it a couple weeks back on steam. Will probably pick it up during a steam sale. =)

I enjoyed this review, however I felt that it didn't match the vernacular of other Joystiq reviews. A littler drier than what I expected.

I am in love with the idea of this game.Portal inspiration is evident but it sticks to being an inspiration only.Brilliantly designed puzzles , great environments and immense satisfaction on solving the puzzles.Games like this are the ones that define genres.
