Mega Man 3 had another cheat if you held the down (up?) arrow on the second control you could jump really high and wouldn't die from holes.

@Draco

And Duckhunt had the cheat where you could control the ducks with the second controller.

Megaman 3 was harder when you were by yourself. I think left or right froze time. Use of that with the manhole you made yourself invulnerable, except when you picked up a life thing, or met some spikes. You couldn't shoot your blaster, but all enemies couldn't kill you, including the robot masters.

@teamnintendo @Draco

You hold right on controller two for the super-jump cheat in Mega Man 3. You become invincible by jumping into a pit and letting Mega Man’s energy drain to zero while holding right (though it seemed like only certain pits worked this way). That disables your arm cannon and only worked as long as you did not pick up any energy. Up + A on controller two freezes enemies—not all the regular ones, but it does work on most bosses.

I don’t think of the Duck Hunt secret as a cheat as you could play it competitively, with player two trying to evade player one’s shots.

Eww Mortal Kombat on Genesis was a horrible. The sound effects were like nails on a chalkboard. I'd take the gray "sweat" on SNES with awesome sound any day.

I don't know what it is about this code that reminds me of my youth so much... As a kid I used to collect these kinds of codes for games that I didn't even own. With no access to the internet it was special to know something like that.
Fills me with joy whenever I see it. Like when I was told to enter the code on my keyboard (uuddlrlr b a enter) on the machinae supremacy website to get access to more free songs.

Now if a game is so hard the developers can't beat it without cheats, isn't that a good indication the difficulty is scaled incorrectly?

Just because you can program it, doesn't mean you're the target audience.

It's true. A lot of game designers are game players at all. See the people at OddWorld Inhab.

Add a .co.uk to the end of it and you have my website.

Coming up to 4 years old now... *sigh*

Good times.

Also, use the cursor keys, B and A to input the code on Google Reader to uncover ninjas. True story.

I didn't even know the Konami code existed back during Contra 1. So I beat the game without using it. It isn't that hard guys.
