Max Payne 3 delayed until May, Take-Two to report a net loss for year
53
Max Payne 3 has entered bullet time, slowing the linear progression of events to the point where the game has shifted its own launch from March to May. This would be the second major title the publisher shifted out of March, with its XCOM shooter also moving into the next fiscal year, which begins April 1.
The delay is expected to have Take-Two report a net loss for the fiscal year ending March 31. The company previously expected a billion in revenue, but is reducing that estimate by $210-230 million.
That means for fiscal 2013 (ending March 31, 2013) Take-Two expects to launch: Max Payne 3, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line, XCOM, XCOM: Enemy Unknown and "other titles yet to be announced." So, Take-Two expects us to only play Take-Two games over the next year. Understood.

I for one am genuinely happy about this... I thought I was going to have to trade in games for it! I hate being a student... And the Vita has my money for my temp job at Christmas, jeez it's hard being me, I can't believe people have the cheek to moan about not being able to drink clean water.

It's good news and a double shot of bad news.
The good news is, more time to work on the game, and for those of us like yourself in a fiscal crunch, more time to save up for it.
The double shot of bad news, is . . . well the game is delayed. But not only that, any chance of getting GTA5 in May has also been shot. Rockstar may not have announced a launch date for GTA5, but traditionally, GTA games launch about six months after the first trailer is released - the exception being GTA4 due to porting issues with getting it to work on the PS3.
With Max Payne getting delayed into what would most likely have been GTA5's release window, and Rockstar Games not likely to overlap their only two games to release in 2012, this announcement even though it does not say so, officially pushes the launch of GTA5 into the fall - September at the earliest, but most likely GTA's traditional stomping ground of October.
This sucks, as two of my most sought after games for the entire year, have just both been delayed.

I sincerely hope you're wrong, though I have the same fears. I was really hoping for a Spring/Summer release, because the calendar gets so clogged in Fall. I loved the fact that GTAIV came out the time it did years ago.
Fingers crossed.

I think I saw him shaving his head in one of the trailers, so probably an earlier part of the game.

The game takes place in several settings. I think this was discussed a long time ago.

Revenue isn't the same as profit. Just because they take $750 million, doesn't mean that their costs weren't higher.
If their overheads for the fiscal year were, for example, $1.2 billion, then they would have lost $450 million this fiscal year.
Considering the awesome games that Take Two produces, I can't see why that would make anyone happy; and I certainly don't understand why you would think that hard working individuals shouldn't deserve to make their company rich if they had.

Don't ever question my intellect - I am well aware of the difference between revenue & profit.
Never did I question the quality of Max Payne or any other Take Two games.
My comment was based on the sad fact that these giant companies rake in tons of cash and set incredibly lofty sales goals.
You are probably one of guys who feels thinks athletes don't get paid enough. Perhaps I am just a grumpy old gamer. You young kids see this differently.

I'd be occupied with Mass Effect 3 anyway.
This is fine. I like an annual anticipation for a new Rockstar game every May.

I think they meant FY13 ends on March 31, 2013. If my Google results are to be trusted, a fiscal year is designated by the year in which it ends, so Take Two's fiscal year 2013 starts on April 1, 2012.

Another delay? All signs indicate that this game must have some serious problems. Maybe the gameplay is just too outdated for today's audiences.

The delay hit me like a point blank shot to the chest, something wasn't right about this. The air outside was cold, like death surrounding me, and all I could do was watch it slowly take away everything in front of me.
'Take-Two, what's going on?'
I didn't get an answer, but their expression told me everything.

March is jammed with game releases so I am not that surprised I can save some money to spend on other games and can stand to wait two months. I have it on pre order so no big deal
