I was really looking forward to this. Looked a bit like a silent hill title from the previews.
I'll pass on this.

Totally understand where you are coming from it did look almost interesting. Thank god for reviews.

Also in b4 they blame piracy for the horrible sales.

Don´t know, usually the games that joystiq gives bad reviews end up being pretty entertaining, not classics but not as bad as they said, i´ll have to wait and see........

@PSBuckshot I agree I got slight Silent Hill vibes when I started up the demo up but sadly 10 mins in (I hate being that guy but I am with this game) I found myself just getting really bored with it.

I like the title, but I think "Survival Borer" would have been better.

That is all.

Remember though, the developers have come out with a response towards the reviews the game is getting.

The reason you only have 2 powers and saw a bunch of environments and enemies in the ending you never saw during the game is simple! You suck! Their game is much too sophisticated and hard, so to be nice it gave you the easy stuff.
Definitely wasn't poor designers that's for sure, noooope!

The sad thing is - the game wins in the end. Since its a PSN title, you can't sell it, you can't return it - you can't even break the disc in a fit of rage.

You can delete it - but how satisfying is that? I want shrapnel damnit!

"AMY is a survival horror/adventure game for PSN being developed by Paul Cuisset, French creator of mythic games including Flashback and the Moto Racer series."

OH GOD MOTO RACER 2 FLASHBACKS!

...yeah, that's how much I care about Amy. A pity, it really could've been a good horror game.

and that's joystiq being generous. You know a game is bad when half the people who review it or do a walkthrough of it dont even finish the game out of pure hatred for the game.

I saw the reviews on MetaCritic, ouch. This review is fairly similar although most of the other ones repeatedly mention horrible hit-detection in combat. There are already lots of calls for it to be the Worst Game of 2012....and it is only January lol

While it does sound bad can you really give them a negative for hallways that lead no where? While it is annoying when you hit one, they're there to throw you off.

@The Aquacharger

There's a specific hallway with a collapsed floor and a door on the other side. You have to spend a good 30 seconds shimmying across the gap only to find that the door is locked, at which point you spend another 30 seconds to shimmy back.

I was never required to return to that door. There were no monsters in that part of the game, so it's not like it was there to trip me up. Just a pointless dead end.

Maybe the door would've been unlocked later by *gasp* an optional secret of sorts? You know, those things (non-sanbox) games used to have sometimes, instead of just neatly funneling you past all their expensive content in order, like they all do now.

Idunno, never played this game. Just trying to sound hopeful!

playing through the trial, I thought this would be one of those games that I felt like I should be liking, as anyone else would be loving it (like Resident Evil 4, mainly because of Ashley)

@Derp Sandwich I tried it (Hydrophobia) after the title update, it was still terrible.. immediately put off by those attempts at accents by the so called voice actors.. and what seems to be the inability to climb downward in a liftshaft, so you either dropped to the water and fail because you were too slow, or just not climb up one extra handhold...
On Amy I would have to agree with Richard that the intro was promising.. though it did feel unfinished

Watched the Giant Bomb quick look of this the other night... it's an hour long torturefest. The game looks terrible, appears to have major performance issues [stuttering frame rates to the game downright not working], and ambiguity and non-clarity in the story... and it's not a horror game.

the only horrifying thing about it is how bad it is.

The worst part of this game after watching the GiantBomb Quick Look was the frame-rate jumpiness; it me sick and I had to watch the video in three 20 minute chunks to get through it (terrible games are hilarious in Quick Looks, so I was happy to watch).

It was incredibly weird seeing v-sync issues in a console game released in 2012 - that kind of thing was solved almost immediately into the HD generation.

@Nobledevil Gaming Optimist

Hmmmmmm while I don't mean to defend this game or anything.... screen tearing on console games as a common occurrence was actually -introduced- this HD generation. If you don't believe me, you can look it up, reviews almost always mention when it happens.

Out of all the console games I played on generations before the current one (which is a lot) I can only remember a single one that did it, the original Silent Hill (at least the PAL version did). As a rule, tearing was something that happened only on the PC (being one of the many glitches and things that made PC gaming a broken experience back then).

But this generation it seems almost commonplace on consoles. It might still be relatively rare, but nobody is surprised anymore when it pops up on another high profile title. So yeah. Not everything has necessarily gotten better on our shiny new HD machines.

I just played through the first chapter, and agree with most of the article. But I don't find the game quite as painful as the author, but it is bad. The ladder animation alone is insane. It takes like 40 seconds to climb a 10 foot ladder. Given she's in high heels and skirt, but no one wants ultra realism on this issue. The save system, or lack thereof. is also ridiculous.

I tried the demo and wasn't totally put off, but I didn't get a chance to finish it and wanted to wait until after the kids bedtimes to give it closer attention. I was getting a vibe similar to the earlier Resident Evil games. Sounds like if I had returned to finish the rest of the demo I may have come away with a different opinion.
