1999 Mode. Though Ken Levine is *almost* as good of a name as Bill Pullman!

Apparently I still don't understand the reply system. ;)

"1999" reminds me of Limp Bizkit and Soul Calibur.

Still better than whatever "2011 Mode" would be in my opinion, but not the "1985 Mode" I'd have went with.

Glad to see more mainstream games getting a hardcore twist.

"1985 Mode"- you've got to finish the game in one sitting because the ROM doesn't support "save codes"!

Remember leaving your NES on all night, and next day, so you could continue your game when you got home from school?

I remember not even having pause buttons.

My parents once let me stay up a whole 2 hours later than usual because I was absolutely KILLING Yars Revenge.

Sound interresting...and will probably be pretty brutal.
Should be nice for the Dark Souls crowd and for me in my moments of self hatred...

This new tendency to make it at least possible to go more old school is something I really like after things like Epic Yarn....

1999 or so was when I started gaming in earnest (really only cared a little bit before then, then became "hardcore" about that year.

I don't remember games being that hard in '99, but I was mostly obsessed with RPGs. When compared to '90 when I was getting smashed by every game I picked up with unused lunch money (whether through lack of skill or lack of experience, who knows, but it was still fun), I don't remember 1999 for the difficulty

If you think 1999 is old school, then you're part of the problem with gaming.

In comparison to gaming now....yeah it kinda is. I mean think about games now. 90% of the time I have to bump the difficulty up to "hardcore" or whatever the setting is above normal just to have any kind of challenge.

And that's not a comment on me becoming a better player. I'll still get my ass kicked on most games before 2005. Something happened during this generation that shifted the default difficulty settings. Easy is now "Normal" and normal is now "Hardcore".

@NaeemTHM Totally agree, I remember Baldur's Gate II being quite challenging on the default level and having to set Dragon Age: Origins to hard to get any kind of challenge out of it. Games have definitely gotten easier over the years.

@NaeemTHM Yeah,a few weeks ago, I pulled Sonic Heroes back out, and found myself having a rather hard time getting A-Ranks, or even completing some of the extra emblems for Team Sonic even though I easily get S-Ranks in the newer games all the time.

I'm not going to be buying this game not because I didn't enjoy Bioshock 1, but because I bought Bioshock 2 on Steam and the bloody game wouldn't start. Support didn't help at all. I can hold a grudge for a long time.

And Steam is its own separate service.

Blame GFWL. I cant play it either. Crashes within the first few minutes every time without fail, And this is after spending hours trying to get it to even start up.

I'm a player who admires every little detail around me. I take my time, that's I have longer play times than fellow gamers of mine.I'm absorbant, if you will.

In terms of my playstyle with shooters, I can adapt to many feels and differences.

But now I'm starting to sound like a sea animal of some kind.

I love the idea of a harder Bioshock - sounds great.

Infinite respawning is fine the first playthrough, but on additional playthroughs a different mode is appreciated.

This seems to be everything that I wanted from the difficulty from the original Bio-shock, not that I love being able to re spawn with everything after I die. A game seems to loose any challenge when you are somewhat invincible.

This Hard mode doesn't sound very fun. It sounds like it will just demand increased awareness of how the game's stats affect your character. Like some kinda Accounting task... o_O
