The Xbox Marketplace listing for Resident Evil 6 appears to contain some exceedingly juicy and entirely unannounced secrets about Capcom's upcoming thriller. If the listing is to be believed, Leon and Chris' latest adventure will include 2-player couch co-op, 6-player online co-op and 8-player "online multiplayer," which we're assuming will be some sort of group Mercenaries exercise.
What's even more astounding is all of this information is just out there, floating around the Internet. We didn't have to collect masks or unlock a blood-filled casket or find key cards or anything. For now, we're cautiously taking everything we read with a grain of salt, even if it is the Xbox Marketplace. We've also reached out to Capcom for confirmation of these features.
Update: We have received a missive from Capcom: "We'll have further clarification in the coming weeks." Tantalizing!

If your friends are mature enough, sounds like a ball to me. I love playing through survival horror as a shared experience.
Now that opens up the age-old debate on whether RE 6 is survival horror-focused or not, but...

While I won't call it an outright disaster. In my opinion it does dull the horror aspect of Resident Evil. What I enjoyed the most growing up playing resident evil was that isolation aspect of fear. You were in a mansion or in a desolate city where you had limited ammo, a small percentage of health, and looking for a save location.
I felt that was the strong suit for Resident Evil. It was able to as a game bring into that fear concept that really shook us as gamers. Of course this was long ago and we as gamers matured over time. However, I just feel that horror aspect was something that should have been advanced in the Resident Evil games. While I'm not against co-op or multiplayer. I do feel that co-op erodes the horror factor in this game franchise.
These are all just my opinions. Horror and co-op can come out good as we have seen in Left 4 Dead. I'll be looking carefully to see how things come out.

It entirely depends on your friends. I am luckily enough to have 2 friends that don't mind displaying their emotions on the surface and it's quite enjoyable to play with them in person. Sometimes they'll make things more tense by being antsy in areas where I wouldn't.
The rest of my friends? Yeah, no freaking way.

For me I think its a bit beyond friends. Certain games I want to have that experience where its you alone as the gamer, such as the horror theme in past Resident Evil games. I guess where I come across is this I believe that the entire game will be more catered to a multiplayer, co-op aspect in mind.
While we have great horror games all around us still. I still want a good Resident Evil game where its me alone, worrying about my life, my ammo, and what direction I have to go. I mean for me at least when you add another person into aspect, or 5 other people it suddenly makes it lose that rush if you were playing it alone.

@Mega Man it depends. If they try to shoehorn it in like Gears 3 did, it'll make the game garbage. But if they find a way to make it work with the story, or make it into a separate Mercenaries-style gametype, it could be great. And judging from the trailer, Chris's section of the game looks like it would fit that very well. Leon's and the merc's sections... not so much.

Agreed. At least for anyone looking for a traditional RE game. I feel for those guys. Not a long time fan of the series though so there's no reason to think this won't be a decent action game. Hopefully - if they go the full action route - they don't gimp the controls saying "it's supposed to be a survival horror game", because that will be lame.

Left 4 Dead is a perfect example of how a horror-style game can be awesomesauce with co-op.
There's nothing more horrifying than watching your friend get catapulted off a skyscraper by a Tank-punch.
If nothing else, 6-player mercenaries would be rockin'.

I didn't care for 5 'brilliant I played it co-op. That brightened it up for me and made it more fun. Not too sure how well 6 player co-op is going to work though. Seems chaotic.

@(Unverified) It's nice to see that the online co-op is 2-6 players. I agree that 6 would probably be too chaotic for me. But if they were to balance ammo/weapons/zombies well it still be a very horror-survival type game.
If they programmed into the difficulty setting for (at least) online co-op something that changed up the pace of gameplay they could satisfy the current, more survival-horror concentric, fans from those fast paced CoD fans they want to rope into the game(which I, personally, think would all be playing L4D if they wanted a fast paced Zombie shooter). Being able to diversify their gameplay is important and I really hope they do it.

If the 6 player co-op is for the main story mode, I will not buy this game because 2 player co-op for 5 kinda ruined it for me and I can't imagine having 5 other people . Hoping for a separate mode like Mercs or some Horde mode knock-off.

@The Cole Train Horde is a knock off of AvPs mode just so ya know. Anyway that is probably what it is. I read that you can do SP without an AI partner too. http://www.relyonhorror.com/latest-news/resident-evil-news/new-resident-evil-6-details-from-various-official-sources/

The six player co-op is probably for some sort of Horde mode like Gears of War 3 has.
The campaign is probably 2 player co-op, like Resident Evil 5 was.
I thought both Resident Evil 4 and 5 were both great games, and I greatly enjoyed the co-op in RE5. The co-op AI partner was crap, but if you played it with a friend, it was extremely fun.
The 8 player mode is likely for PvP mercenaries mode.

I think you're right, that's most likely how it would work best.
Unfortunately this comment section will still be filled with whining, nonsense, and pure stupidity in regards RE6's quality.

If the difficulty tweaks to number of co-op teammates, then six it is, if not I'll stick with three so it doesn't become easy or boring.

Why is everyone astounded at 6 person co-op? Halo's been doing it since BTB in H2. It's really not that big of a deal. In fact, with its more CoD like gameplay, I think it could be awesome.

No shit? I had no idea! I only played it for like 3-4 years. HUH. I guess I was just under the wrong impression the entire time!
The point wasn't the gametype, it's the fact that Co-op and VS don't have to be segregated as such is expected by every person above this.

@Demon G Sides A co-op experience implies some sort of asymmetry, that it's a team of players against some form of enemy or challenge that's different from their own. Versus modes tend to have both sides play on more or less the same footing, unless it's something like Beast Mode from GoW3 that blurs the line.
BTB is great, but it's definitely a different experience than Firefight is (to stick with the Halo terms).

@The Pork That doesn't actually address the issue of whether or not they'll let you do it in a main RE game, and I've heard nothing good about Mercs 3D.

Must walk-and-shoot always be accompanied by run and gun action? I can walk and shoot in Dead Space, and that isn't a run and gun action-filled game.
I think people just want to be able to shoot while moving, not run and gun explosions everywhere action.
