I just renewd my subscription and realized there are no games worth playing online sinse Im bored of Halo, hate call of duty, and the Left 4 Dead "comunity" is made up of asshats who would rather attack thier own team mates or kill themselves then play the game (happens every game).
So $32 dollars is about $32 more then they should be asking for this ad filled service that should be free.

@TwEE Cool story bro.
If you got bored of the online service, why'd you even renew it? Plus there's more than 3 games to play online

It never fails. There must always be comment about the cost of XBL. Nobody forces you to buy it you know.

@TwEE I'm with you on this one bud, Xbox Live is a joke right now. There are no real games worth playing online ATM.
Right now i'm playing Tribes: Ascend (Free to Play) and starcraft 2 (Free online) and everything else I can play on PS3 for free, except Halo of course, but Halo: Reach is a sloppy pile of trash IMO.
Maybe renew when Halo 4 comes out

If there are some great games with solid online Im missing, let me know.
Was a gift, I havent renewed the thing in a year. Some of you are really emotional about this I see, sorry for not cheerleading for a product that doesn't deserve it guys.
I will cheerlead for starcraft 2 online though. Amazing service, rarely any trouble with the other players and its free (no ads either). Amazing Job Blizzard!

Thanks for the heads up! I've been waiting for a deal to get Gold again even though I never play any multiplayer and use my PS3 for Netflix. Maybe I should have just saved my money. Oh well, here's hoping I can swindle someone into playing Saints Row the Third with me.

$36... only $3 a month. I predict that the PS3 fanboys will still be like "OMG you PAY???"

I bought it but I'm not happy about it. $3 a month is still too much for something with this many ads.
I honestly don't even know why I bought it, hopefully HBO go comes along sometime in the next 14 months so I can put it to use, but I'm not holding my breath.

In other words... most fanboys bring up fanboys topics.

I'm not even kidding. I tried buying on xbox.com a month ago but it was not going through but it was charging my CC $1 so I called and they told me, "You shouldn't buy through us, if you go to amazon they have a deal for a couple of dollars off and you'll get the card in the mail." it blew my mind

Well I have to pay to do anything online, because I pay for internet.
However I agree that I've stayed away from additional subscription fees or any way of really being charged twice to use my internet as i see fit. No gold for this guy.

Compared to my brother's PS3, XBL has WAY faster downloads, more solid connections, and less random downtimes.
Not trying to bash on the PSN or anything, but it all boils down to "you get what you pay for".

Considering most games now adays have a heavy focus on multiplayer they kind of are forcing you.

It's 39.99 practical everywhere in Canada right now.. The 3 dollars a month and more stable service and functionality is easily worth it for me.. If it were a separate unit my PS3 wireless adapter would collect dust.. Alas, enjoy it while you can.. If you think Sony isn't monitoring the success of Xbox live than why do you think PS+ exists? Next generation Sony will go the same route as Microsoft.. They are missing out on a huge stream of revenue that could be used to combat microsofts early dlc.. And I don't blame them.. The financial upkeep of a dedicated gaming server the size of Xbox live is monumental.. The divide between consoles will never be as narrow as it will be next generation.. Most likely both will focus on digital game sales, non used sales, and paid online services.. Anyone who thinks Sony is going to suck up losses to make the classical gamer of yore happy is sorely mistaken.. The industry has evolved, if some consumers don't than it's there loss.. You're becoming what your parents always were.. lol such is the life cycle of technology...

Not sure if they expire, but you can stack them. I usually buy two cards at a time, apply them both to my account, and then I don't have to worry about it for another two years.

You can get an online game code at the same price, doesn't have to be a physical card.

Great timing! My account was set to renew in a couple of days at full price. I turned off auto renewal and bought an online code at Amazon. Poof, another year.
